It’s been a busy week, indeed, spotting unannounced digital movies download businesses.Lions_Gate_Transcript

Lionsgate Entertainment Group President Steve Beeks appeared to have outed Apple’s closely guarded plans to offer digital movies for download after confirming that it is “likely” to launch by the end of the year.

This nugget comes from Beeks, after being asked by an analyst about when they should expect movies on iTunes, from last Thursday’s conference call transcript, thanks to Seeking Alpha blog,

“In terms of iTunes, movie downloads, I would think that most likely some time by the end of the year. We know when they are planning on launching, but since they have not announced it publicly I don’t think it is our place to say anything more about that.”

Meanwhile, PaidContent grabbed a couple of screenshots from Amazon.com’s test pages for its upcoming, rumored, but officially unconfirmed movie download service before the company pulled them off the site.

Left unanswered is what the name of Amazon’s service will be — “Unbox Video” or “Lumiere.”

Here’s a public link that still exists on Amazon’s site to Lumiere. None of the movie links actually work. An Amazon spokeswoman declined to comment. Apple wasn’t immediately reachable.

One comment so far

Too bad…
