Negotiations are negotiations and compromises will be made. I suspect that a deal will be struck which may not go down well with everybody. That is politics. After all the chaos, politicians will sit down, shake hands and smile while we watch. Lets see what happens to all this madness...

Eish

Would you prescribe the same medicine for your own country?

Would you want your country's economy to be destroyed by foreign powers in a bid to force your ruler out of office? Should this happen in Britain and the USA or Australia?

Or is this medicine good only for Zimbabwe, where greedy white farmers and their Western cousins have colluded to bring the economy down despite the fact that millions of black Zimbabweans are suffering economic hardship?

Tendaie...i think u are so much mistaken my friend. i strongly advice you to go back to your reference books and study them with detail. The talks are not going to bring any positive results as desired by the people of Zimbabwe. Mugabe is not going to allow anyone to rule Zim as long as he lives as he says. The only move to take is to bring the economy down to its knees and watch-out who he is going to murder and torture, BRING down the economy that feeds the hands that kill the people of ZIm.Mugabe was never loyal to his people and since the 80s after independence we have witnessed his party kill and tortue, not to mention the Matebelebland killings.

the only logical way foe zim to get back to its knees is when mugabe steps down or given a role that nullifies his outspokeness which in my view would only be possible if the generals in his government agree to that .But thumbs up for both parties swallowing up their pride 2 negotiate coz it is for the better of all zimbos.

We know that Mugabe is honest president. he does really understand the causes of this crisis. We know that this crisis is caused by british interferences and interventions in domestic zimbabwean affairs. Therefore, for this reason, it is important to free Tsvangirai from his foreign masters. He is only a mere puppet of foreign forces. What people of Zimbabwe can expect from this puppet? The reply is, NOTHING GOOD. In the name of Zimbabwean national interest, President Mugabe is the only protector of Zimbabwe against foreign influences....

one important aspect of the recent deal is having the UN and AU as part of the mediation process. this article delves into how impartial mediation is crucial:

Mugabe has plainly won. The only reason for the so-called negotiations is to provide an excuse to claim that the stupid whites should give Zimbabwe, ie. Mugabe, the money they had promised if he was overthrown. No doubt they will be sufficiently weak to do this!

Let me be proved wrong, but my view, based on what I know of Mugabe is that nothing is going to come out of this. Mugabe will not negotiate himself out of power come rain, come thunder. His party has failed to dislodge him even though everyone in the party agrees he is the problem. The Zimbabwe crisis is only but an external manifestation of the underlying ZANUPF internal struggle to get rid of Mugabe. Mbeki and Jonathan Moyo are too painfully aware of that.

The reason why the negotiation period is a mere two weeks is because these parties have virtually agreed on the framework for a new political order, including a new constitution. In fact, the constitution was agreed on as far back as 2003 but fell victim to the topsy turvy political circumstances prevailing ahead of the Abuja Commonwealth summit at which Mugabe subsequently pulled Zim out of the club.
