Latvia’s PM says new euro entrant will back ‘all the rules’

RIGA (Reuters) – The euro zone’s next entrant, Latvia, will push for tight budgets, labour reforms and free trade deals when it joins the bloc next year, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis told Reuters on Thursday.

Latvia’s euro entry in January cements its shift away from Russia two decades after the collapse of the Soviet Union and Dombrovskis said in an interview that he fears Moscow is trying to flex military and trade muscles in the Baltics.

Don’t blame Europe, stick with reform: Danish PM

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) – Denmark’s center-left prime minister, accused by her left-wing parliamentary backers of veering too far to the right, said on Friday the country had got through the worst of its economic crisis and should persevere with unpopular reforms.

Elected in 2011 promising to pull Denmark out of an economic slump, Helle Thorning-Schmidt is deeply unpopular half way through her term, opinion polls show, although analysts do not expect her minority government to fall.
