Ghana’s Asamoah seeks to bury memory of 2010 heartbreak

LONDON (Reuters) – If the last World Cup holds only memories of heartbreak for Ghana’s Kwadwo Asamoah, this time round he is stronger, wiser and could be the key player if the Black Stars are to make good on their frustrated ambitions.

Asamoah played in the quarter-final against Uruguay in Johannesburg in 2010 when a Luis Suarez goal-line handball, a missed penalty by team mate Asamoah Gyan and a defeat in the subsequent penalty shoutout denied the Black Stars the honor of becoming the first African side to reach the semi-finals.

Asamoah hopes 2010 experience can spur Ghana on

LONDON (Reuters) – Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah believes the Black Stars have put their disappointing exit from the 2010 World Cup firmly behind them and can draw on that experience to emerge from a tough group at next month’s tournament.

Asamoah has been in terrific form for his Italian club side Juventus this season, helping them clinch the Serie A title, and will lead Ghana’s charge in Brazil as they seek to become the first African team ever to reach the semi-finals.

For railway children, a dangerous life by the tracks

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – The young boys huddled over a fire between two tracks just beyond the platforms of New Delhi railway station, oblivious to the trains rolling past. They were trying to boil some water to make tea.

One, a grime-encrusted urchin wearing a filthy baseball cap at a jaunty angle, said this was their home. He had run away after his mother died and he could take no more beatings from his alcoholic father.
