Ciena raises bid for some Nortel assets: sources

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Ciena Corp <CIEN.O> has raised its offer for Nortel Networks Corp’s optical networking and carrier ethernet business to $714 million, sources familiar with the matter said on Sunday, as the auction for these assets entered its third day.

Ciena’s new bid now consists of $500 million in cash and $214 million in convertible notes, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity since details of the auction have not been made public.

Nokia Siemens,One Equity bid for some Nortel assets

NEW YORK, Nov 18 (Reuters) – Nokia Siemens Networks and private equity firm One Equity Partners have jointly bid for Nortel Networks Corp’s optical networking and carrier ethernet business, a person familiar with the sale said on Wednesday, challenging Ciena Corp’s $526 million bid for the assets.

Last month, the bankrupt Canadian telecommunications equipment maker said that Ciena’s <CIEN.O> cash-and-stock bid would be the stalking horse offer for these assets.

CF Industries boosts cash portion of Terra offer

NEW YORK, Nov 1 (Reuters) – Fertilizer maker CF Industries
Holdings Inc <CF.N> edged up its hostile offer for smaller
rival Terra Industries <TRA.N>, removing what has been seen as
a major obstacle for the bid by boosting the cash portion.

CF Industries said on Sunday it is offering to acquire
Terra for $32 in cash — including a $7.50 special dividend
that Terra plans to pay — and 0.1034 of a share of CF common
stock for each Terra share.

Cisco exploring options on Tandberg bid: source

NEW YORK/LONDON (Reuters) – Cisco Systems Inc <CSCO.O> is mulling options, including withdrawing or raising its $3 billion bid for Tandberg SA <TAA.OL>, a person familiar with the matter said, as the standoff between the networking gear maker and some Tandberg shareholders intensifies.

But Cisco is unlikely to make a final decision before its month-long tender offer for the shares of the Norwegian video conferencing company expires on November 9, the source said on Friday.

Comcast NBC deal held up by various issues: sources

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Comcast Corp <CMCSA.O> and General Electric Co <GE.N> are struggling to iron out a few critical issues that are holding up a joint venture deal for NBC Universal, people familiar with the matter said.

While an agreement will likely be reached to give Comcast a 51 percent stake in the NBC Universal venture, advisers are trying to draft governance and exit provisions for GE’s 49 percent stake that would be palatable to both sides, one of the sources said.

SAN FRANCISCO/NEW YORK (Reuters) – The investor relations firm employee who is believed to have tipped off an informant of Galleon Group about Google Inc’s <GOOG.O> earnings did not ask for or get compensation, her lawyer said.

Shammara Hussain is the Market Street Partners employee who regulators believe leaked information to the Galleon informant and sought money to continue supplying tips, people familiar with the matter said on Friday. Regulators did not release the employee’s name in their complaints.
