Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore has jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize for his campaigning on climate change.
He has spoken and written tirelessly on the subject and his Oscar-winning documentary film “An Inconvenient Truth” has become required viewing in English schools — even if the High Court has now said it should carry a “health warning” of political bias.
Some Gore supporters have speculated that winning the Nobel might spur the 2000 Democratic nominee for president to enter the lists again.
Gore has not ruled this out, as he did in 2004, but he would have to move fast and his spokesmen say he is more interested in his global warming campaign than in trying to secure the Democratic nomination again.
What do you think? Should he try again for the presidency? Would a man with such strong views on climate change make a welcome change in the White House?

yes,yes al run to another money making party. as far as the peace prize is concerned it is indeed a sham for good old al to receive it. i live in norway and the people i know can not understand how al could have been cosidered.why do we the people keep giving this guy so much press.
- Posted by LLOYDAl Gore is a joke.
- Posted by KathyMike??? Have ya been outside lately?
All of you people are so non-sensical. Clinton was the best President we had in 50 years. He had his moments. Lets just say DEFICIT? Or global warming. Or pharmaceutical companies that need to be controlled. (hand in hand with the corrupt AMA and FDA)
If we don’t take control…BACK…of this country, there won’t be much left.
WAKE UP, AMERICA!
- Posted by Linda in CORaising taxes on fuel is not the way to go because it will pass it to the consumer–unacceptible. I would rather see a 15% reduction in military spending, then take that money and invest it into alternative energy spending, electric cars etc.. We can use technology to change our future as we see it happening now. This would really kick start our commitment to change and if we had a leader that sold this to the American people as alternative to war, the American people would buy. We are waiting for that person, and one of those could be Gore. He was a supporter of NAFTA,a poluter policy and bad for workers rights; he could redeem himself by using this idea to gain our respect and vote. Lead, follow, get out of the way, Lee Icoca, once said, we could show our committment to the country as well as the world. If is time for that man, woman, to stand up and capture our hearts and minds.
- Posted by DanAl Gore is the smart choice — someone respected by the world who can really be the leader of the free world, not an embarassment like Bush or one of the lapdog Repbublican candidates. Hillary, with all her and Bill’s baggage, is unelectable. Obama and Edwards lack experience. Gore can win, because he has already won once! Please run, Al!

- Posted by Jim MailGore would be much better than the situation we have now. Why is Condi running around putting out fires Bush is creating around the world? She is doing an excellent job and I wish we could end the onslaught of American offensive moves where Russis, Iran, China, Turkey etc. etc. are going to end up joining forces against the US, which is in no position to be creating more reason for others to join forces against us. Has Bush not hurt our international reputation enough? How do we stop the bleeding?
- Posted by Steve PalmerBy all means Gore needs to run; that is if he can beat Clinton. I will vote democratic if he, Obama or Edwards represents the Democratic party but if Hillary wins the Primary I will have to vote republican or cast a no vote for resident. Hillary, like Nixon, will do anything to get elected, She has misrepresented facts, twisted comments, made rediculous promises and anything else she can to get elected. We need Gore (or Obama or Edwards) but not Clinton.
- Posted by DAlnBI once loved Al Gore..voted for him. But when I found out that he’s a Council On Foreign Relations guy it was an absolute no way. Look up the CFR and you’ll learn it’s purpose includes attaining one world government. It also includes a dominant focus on growing the role of the UN (another NO-NO as far as I’m concerned because it’s run by fascists and socialists). Who else is CFR? Hillary, Romney, Guiliani, Fred Thompson. Finally, I want to extend a big kudo to Reuters for manipulating the Republican poll in New Hampshire. Ron Paul is not only leading there but he was completely omitted from Reuters list of candidates. Oh, but Reuters will cover guys like Richardson. What is Reuters afraid of? Be truthful because that’s what the people of out country need right now.

- Posted by ElkeThinking that 6.6 humans, more than a million cars, thousands of factories, along with all the other by-products of industry have negligible impact upon this planet is simply denying reality. What’s really frightening is that people entrenched in such self-absorption and fantasy are allowed to vote.
- Posted by AnnGore is the ONLY person, Dem or GOP, who has the balls to challenge Hillary Clinton and not care what he says to her.
Everyone else thinks they can beat her by attacking her character…wrong!!
Gore needs to run and scare the pants off of Hillary.
- Posted by RogerI would completely support Al Gore for President!
Run, Al! We need you!

- Posted by l. larsenRocco Rizzo at #6 says that the US needs to restore its standing in the world. It needs to do more than that.It needs to become the most respected and admired country in the world. Only Al Gore can do this at this point. He should make this his platform in which case he does not need to have a policy on Iraq, social security, immigration, health care etc. All he needs to say is that Congress which makes legislation must be guided by that policy and send him legislation the US can be proud of. He needs to spend at least half of his time visiting heads of states listening and learning and communicating the US’s policy of non-aggression and respect for the cultures of the all peoples. When the Congress realizes what he is doing everything will fall into place; withdrawal of the army not only from Iraq but from all of the 130 countries around the world where the US has military installations, health care reform, immigration, global warming, social security, education. All it takes is for an inspired leader to set the tone and the direction and all else will follow. Only Al Gore can do this at the moment. None of the existing candidates on either the democratic and republilcan tickets can match him in this respect. They have already lost credibility around the world and are tainted with the war mongering brush/big brother brush
- Posted by Eustace RossEveryone here is accusing Mr.Gore of hypocrisy, tearing apart the validity of his film, and falling into the same sad cateogory of peopl reluctant to trust, identify and believe in the simle truth that things can change. I’m sure there were inaccuracies in his film - so what? He did not win this award for the movie - he won the award for the long years of work he has done promoting and encouraging conversation on a subject that most world leaders (including our fair Mr.Bush) can’t even spell. And now we are talking about it and trying to figure out how to curb some of our excessive consumption. You can argue with a lot of facts and statistics but you cannot argue this:
The world that has made us can no longer contain us.
Mr.Gore putting his hat in the ring is the right move for this country. We have been living in the dark ages for almost 8 years and it is time that we look to the man in office and see that he is thinking more than two steps ahead. That he is aware of consequences. Most importantly it would make a very important statement about the insanity that has become modern American campaigning. Millions of dollars and almost two full years of being batttered over the head with the candidates shifting ideas and strategies. Imagine how refreshing it would be for someone to come along and say “Hi, i decided that I wanted to actually being doing my job for the last 18 months instead of moving from mindless debate to mindless debate. I want to be your president but if I’m not I will continue to the best work I can.” That is what this country deserves again. Conservitives. Liberals. Moderates. We all deserve someone who is serious about making this world a little bit better. And after W. whoever it is is going to have their work cut out for them. Al seems like that best man for the job.
- Posted by Patrick A.I would welcome the election of Al Gore, winning the 2008 Presidential campaign. It is critical to have a concerned citizen of the world, not only of the United States, in the White House.
- Posted by Kathleen HennessyMr. Gore has had the rocket for the last eight years; now he has the fuel, so all that’s left is for him to launch! (with environmentally-friendly fuel, that is)
It isn’t the time for Hillary. The Hot Spot of the world is the Middle East, and their culture respects a man in leadership; not a woman. It is what it is. America, do NOT be stupid. We need someone in the White House who can have even the ghost of a chance of cleaning up the toxic spill that is Bush.
It isn’t the time for Obama, either. He simply isn’t experienced enuf, not for now. Maybe in some years, yes. But right now, we can’t afford a rookie. We have to think past Parties, and vote for the person with the *best chance* of resurrecting the United States in the eyes of the world.
GO GORE!

- Posted by Cheryl PetersonHey Steve W (14) Al Gore keeps his house lit up like a Christmas tree too.
The problem with SUV’s and other large vehicles is that they make the road more dangerous for other drivers. Driving one is an inherently selfish thing to do.
Using more energy will make us run out faster and makes it cost more of everybody else!
Global warming believers are skewing the issue by saying that people with big houses and cars are destroying the planet. It’s BS. This is an economic and social issue.
Only a few thousand years ago New York City was covered by a massive sheet of ice, and in a few more millennia it will most likely be again. People like to think that we have control over the weather. We do not. Someday humankind may figure out a way to control the climate, but as of now, our affect is miniscule.
There will most certainly be: ice ages, massive eruptions, earthquakes, floods and impacts from space. None of which we can do anything about as of now.
I will agree that we currently have the worst American president in history in office right now. How did he get there? By mind less zombies like you Steve W. They may have voted for him for different reasons, but it is all propaganda; whether it’s the invisible man in the sky, the evil terrorist, or the doom and gloom of global warming. Fear has become the most effective way to control the vote of the American people.
This is for everybody. Quit telling yourself “I am a democrat” or “I am a conservative” or “I believe every thing that every stupid actor says on the Bill Maher show” or “Rush is right”. Think for you damn self!
Or you keep voting for the candidate that appeals to your favorite fear and we can continue to expect more crappy leadership.
