The soundtrack from the film “Purple Rain” topped a list of the 50 greatest, according to the editors of Vanity Fair magazine. Other soundtracks to make the list include “Saturday Night Fever” and “Trainspotting.”
The full list will be revealed next month in a one-time Conde Nast magazine, Movies Rock. Which soundtrack do you think should make the list?

I agree, Trainspotting should be on the list, but Pulp Fiction better be at the top!
- Posted by ckleinThe Crow OST should be at least top 10.
The Cure, STP, NIN, Violent Femmes, Rollins Band, Jesus and Mary Chain, Rage Against The Machine.
It is a quality soundtrack for sure.
- Posted by Ronnie KFor my money (well, actually, there’s no money) “Pulp Fiction” needs to be near the top, along with “Dirty Dancing.” Hey, nobody puts Baby in a corner.

- Posted by Emily ChurchButch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid & The Sting both have great soundtracks, as well as Rocky Horror.
- Posted by DraculichOcean’s Eleven and anything else by David Holmes gets my vote.
- Posted by Richard BaumI can understand why “Purple Rain” won the 1st prize, while Prince himself also won the 1st prize in the vote of “Who is the most underrated guitarists ever?” held by Rolling Stone.
- Posted by ladolcevita0113Magnolia, Malcolm X and Repo Man, a punk classic. If you’re going to put Pulp Fiction on the list, don’t forget another great Tarrantino soundtrack, Reservoir Dogs. All that said, my top choice would have to be the incredibly diverse High Fidelity which opens with the powerful “You’re Gonna Miss Me” by the 13th Floor Elevators and includes Velvet Underground, Stevie Wonder, Stereolab, Dylan, Elvis Costello and Jack Black’s version of “Let’s Get It On.” If HF is not on the least, there’s a problem.

- Posted by dean clarke taylorEvery song is a winner and after 68 years, it is still wonderful as is the movie.
anything w/a soundtrack by Hans Zimmer or his proteges
- Posted by ArthurMine would have to be the soundtrack to Heavy Metal.
Or “Rock & Roll High School”.
I would have to include Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” in there too… though not so much a soundtrack as the movie is a feature length music video.
And, though I can’t stand these I can’t believe no one mentioned Saturday Night Fever or Grease yet…
- Posted by JSHarrisonUntil the end of the World - by Wim Wenders has a fantastic sound track. In the super-long Directors cut (280-minutes) there is music that is not on the CD, including a wonderful bit with Peter Gabriel? when the ‘planes engine stops.

- Posted by harvGreat point on “Until the End of the World.” Wenders really knows how to set a mood with music. And in another Wenders film, “Wings of Desire,” there’s that marvelous number by Nic Cave and the Bad Seeds, “From Her to Eternity.”
