I cannot believe how many support offshore drilling when we have capped so many of our wells within our various states-and why? Lets look at natural gas once and for all. This country and its people have the power and the brains to turn our dependence on fossil fuel off within the next generation. It is more than time for the American public to stop wanting quick fixes to every situation. Why do we continue to buy into corporation ideas as if we do not have a brain in our heads? To switch from fossil fuel will require years of painful changes, but do we not owe this to the next generation? I challenge everyone to read more, question more and demand the news media and politicians give us real information to make the right decisions. Lets finally put the balme where it belongs-on us.

Holy... The hypocrisy is overwhelming. Doesn't anyone else get this? We've wasted nearly 10 yrs. Bush started pushing for this in 2001. We could've had hundreds of wells running full throttle all across the continental shelves and ANWR during the time when oil was running $148 a barrel. Why the sudden change of heart? I'll tell you why. Because it was convenient for the Dems to run up the price of oil, and squander our trade balance when Bush was in charge. Now, they can blame Bush for the global economic crisis, they are in charge of everything, and WALLAH. Now it makes sense to drill. Please folks. This is so blatant, I can't believe I'm seeing them announce this with straight faces. Where is the shame? Where is the outrage? Where is the justice? You've been robbed, you;ve been impoverished, you've been lied to? For what? Power. What do you get out of it?

I do agree it is the right thing.

Put the money into clean energy - wind, solar, bio-fuels, the alternatives. Forget nukes and coal; there's no such thing as clean coal and nuke plants take years to build besides the safety threat. Stick with the renewables like wind and solar. Buy technology from Israel - they're way ahead of us!

Drilling can be done onshore and probably more efficiently and with faster results. The reason we're seeing the oil companies make record-breaking profits while they drill no new wells is because they're pocketing the profits. Pure and simple. For Obama to use this as a trade-off for his climate change bill is irresponsible at best. Increased drilling should have been taking place for years, especially with the high crude prizes we've seen for how many years now? There's no excuse for the President or our lawmakers to sit by and allow the American people to be robbed for years on end by big oil. ENOUGH!! Obama should shelve his ridiculous climate bill and concentrate on other much more important issues, like jobs for Americans and Iran. The jobs can be created by drilling onshore. We have the reserves in both oil and gas, but big oil has to let go of the $$ to drill.

At the current rate of global consumption, and with the economies of India and China growing, can this decision make any difference even in the short term?

The USA should be scaling back fossil fuel use at least 5% per year. Will the "economy" suffer ? Yes- this present one will. But it's better to scale back now by degrees in a manageable way than to get hit in the peak oil crashes due in just a few years. But short term gains always seem to trump intelligent planning and the peak oil and gas crashes will be really "bad for business". We'll end up with a standard of living reduction of around 60% one way or the other. There isn't enough oil or gas offshore to make a difference, folks..Also, continuing lousy stewardship of Planet Earth will get your kids and grandkids and generations unborn..wake up, folks..
