Are new security screenings affecting your decision to fly?
Stepped-up security screening at airports in the wake of foiled terrorism plots has provoked an outcry from airline pilots and travelers, including parents of children who say they are too intrusive.
Industry officials, travelers and pilots have complained bitterly to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) about new full-body scanners and more rigorous patdown checks begun recent weeks.
Security officials have defended the measures as necessary after foiled plots by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which has tried to hide bombs in clothing and parcels that have made it aboard a U.S. passenger airliner and two cargo planes.
With the busiest holiday travel season nearing, fliers face long security lines and new rigorous patdown checks aimed at discovering hidden explosives. As a result, some travelers are questioning whether to fly at all.

They want us to submit to their obtrusive security measures so we become complacent with over the top security and loss of privacy.
I accept the need to make a plane secure to fly, but I do not accept my God given rights being abused. I do not accept having my body exposed to dangerous radiation. I do not accept going through a virtual strip. I do not accept being thoroughly groped and squeezed.
There must be a better solution to the problem of air plane safety than the procedures and machines that are currently used. Until then I will not be flying.
I urge anyone who values their rights and freedom to discontinue flying.
I am old enough to remember when flying was fun, an adventure that I eagerly looked forward to. There were no security checks, no pat downs, no shoe searches, no databases, nothing but check-in and go to find your seat. Many of the flights weren’t even full! And the service was grand. Now I absolutely dread it. I avoid it whenever possible. On flights of less than 500 miles I always drive. It takes about the same amount of time when you factor in getting to the airport, arriving at least an hour early, the inevitable delays, waiting to land, then the long lines on the other end. I will only fly if I have to fly transcontinental or overseas. And now I have to put up with a virtual strip search? No way.
Unless I have to travel farther than a six hour drive, I will drive. Nowadays, I have to show up two hours early, stand in a 45 minute line, submit to a groping, not bring my regular shaving kit, wait for hours in uncomfortable chairs until the plane leaves. Then I sit in a tiny, cramped seat with no leg room, pay extra to check any baggage, and then walk another 2 miles once the plane lands to get to the ground transport. I only fly any more when I absolutely have to (probably 12 times a year). Guess what, the terrorists won.
It seems like I get to choose between have naked images of myself displayed to strangers (with untested radiation to boot), or being sexually molested.
Even worse is that I have to choose which if these I want for my children. How is this even remotely acceptable?
The TSA is a permanent memorial to the fact that the terrorists have been more effective at changing our country than we have in changing them.
I will be driving 4,000 miles round trip from Dallas to Reno, NV to avoid these screening techniques. I’m also a million mile flyer on American Airlines, and have written their corporate leadership to inform them that these techniques have resulted in my moving from a 90% travel job to a 0% travel job.
“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” — Benjamin Franklin
Actually, this additional assault on the 4th ammendment will have zero impact on me. I said “ENOUGH!” 5yrs ago and will not fly again. I think you’ll find more people taking a seige mentallity as we sink deeper into the police state. As a Vietnam veteran and patriot, I see this for what it is.
I’m glad people are finally waking up and taking action by deciding NOT to fly. Perhaps the airline pilot and flight attendant unions will be emboldened to take a job action regarding this issue.
Now, how about our court system? What will it take to get the TSA out of our courts? Has anyone undergone a virtual strip search and/or molestation when reporting for JURY DUTY? Wouldn’t it be nice if the JURY POOL was riled up enough to arrive at the courthouse but then REFUSE to go inside and be body scanned and groped? Can you imagine the pandemonium that would ensue if ALL the jurors reporting that day did this? What a concept!
considering the fact that these new and enhanced proceedures were introduced AFTER foiled attachs, it makes them absolutely redundant.Nothing more than harrasment and terrorizing our own citizens….yet the ones in question do not get searched because of political correctness…Everybody needs to start speaking up and refusing these proceedures, they are uncalled for and they will not help them detect anything they couldn’t have found with the old method…I intend to yell “opt-out” loud enough myself…and I will, with all due respect of course, politely try to shame them…I have small breasts and I will loudly ask if they really look like they had any implants….maybe I get a chuckle out of one or two…but if they willmake me miss my flight because of it, I will contact my lawyer…enough is enough..
I think it wouldn’t be so much of an issue if people actually had any faith in the usefulness of TSA procedures to provide any kind of real security. Taking our shoes off and putting liquids in slightly smaller containers sure is providing some real security. The reality is that people know that the TSA and 95% of what they do is a worthless waste of time and money.
I have up on commercial flying some years ago. When the TSA advised me to arrive 2 hours prior to departure, I couldn’t take my can of coke with me, had to take off my shoes, I started adding the costs.
Drive to airport: 45 min.
Arrive 2 hours early.
Fly 1 hour to destination.
Find my baggage (usually) 45 min.
Rent car and drive 45 min. to meeting. Total: 6 hours.
Now, call up the local airport charter company and tell them my schedule. I and my associates arrive at the airport 5 minutes early, carry our baggage to airplane, climb in, and we fly 1 hour 15 minutes to destination, drive 5 minutes to meeting from the much closer downtown airport. When we are ready to go home (early or late, whatever it is), we return to the airport and fly home. Figure half the time in transit, arrive home refreshed, and the cost is not much more than a pair of business class tickets, airport parking and whatnot.
This is bad enough for the average American but as a sexual abuse survivor it’s doubly hard for me. My choices are to let a stranger ogle me essentially naked or be groped by said stranger. Either way it’s traumatizing for me and I’ll skip flying all together thanks.
“It is a necessary procedure to ensure terror plots are thwarted”
What a pack of propaganda…
TSA has never caught a terrorist.
Most bulk packaging sent in the bottom of planes is not searched, so what is the point of turning passengers into imaginary terrorists?
Nope, no flying for me unless someone in the family dies.
If I want foreplay, I have my hunny!
This poll is really asking really skewed questions. Sure, the ‘yes’ makes sense, but the ‘no’? I will probably not let the changes affect my travel plans and while flying may not be as fun as it once was, I think we know just how out of hand these security procedures are getting.
So, no, it won’t change my plans, but yes I think the idea is ridiculous. I think if you put a cruise line in charge of finding dangerous items in the same vein they find liquor we might just be okay.
Where’s the fourth option of “No – But it is NOT a necessary procedure to ensure terror plots are thwarted?”
My choices, should I choose to fly, are to be digitally strip searched (with machines that have been PROVEN to be storing images) or to be sexually assaulted by a TSA agent.
No thank you. Here’s hoping that the airlines survive this latest round of TSA idiocy (along with the toner ban, the liquid ban, the shoe ban, and everything else that the TSA has done in the way of intrusive security theater).
I hope that every single person flying this holiday season clearly ‘opts out’ of the naked scanners, requests a private pat-down with a witness who is videotaping the pat down, and clearly states to the TSA Agent that they are violating your constitutional right (per 4th Amendment of freedom from search with out PROBABLE CAUSE that you are guilty of A CRIME THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN COMMIITTED. These ARE Government employee’s (ie ‘the government’ is searching you), the airports are tax-paid-for public places, and the airline companies (not really at fault here, their employee’s are protesting too) are public companies, and yes, you DO have a ‘right’ to fly, as you are a ‘free person’ in America. I’m waiting to read results of the Fatwa against the screenings, days ahead of the Haj. If muslims can opt out, the rest of us should DAMN WELL be able to without undergoing a sexual assault. For those who may not have witnessed this, or think it’s not a big deal, just check out the TSA’s own video’s by searching on youtube “TSA scanner” there are shocking videos’ including a heartbreaking one of a 3 year old little girl just screaming while being molested by a TSA agent…..OPT OUT! Get a Witness and VIDEOTAPE the pat down.
I won’t be flying until something changes – hopefully the outright disbanding of the TSA. If I “have” to go overseas, I’ll fly out of Canada, where they seem to have retain their sanity about this. For now.
Ever since I was a kid I loved flying. Anytime my family and I took a trip I think I looked forward to the journey way more than the destination. Even now I love the act of flying itself, regardless of the cramped seats, the loss of amenities and the delays.
That being said, these latest TSA policies have finally pushed me to the breaking point. This type of security theater has been shown over and over again to have no real bearing on security whatsoever; despite that I am to the point where I simply don’t want to sacrifice my dignity to save a few hours/dollars to get where I need to go. To my great sadness I will not fly again until these ridiculous policies are done away with.
Now, I voted “Undecided” but thats not really true. These security measures won’t keep me from flying, but I don’t think they are “a necessary procedure to ensure terror plots are thwarted”. I believe they are ineffective, expensive, and possibly damaging to your health. I will most likely request a pat-down, as I am often singled out for “random” extra checks. I’m a mid-20s female, and I often travel alone. I don’t like the idea of subjecting myself to the levels of x-radiation the backscatter machines put out.
It would be nice if we had a 4th choice in this poll. “No- but not because i don’t disagree with the system. I just don’t have to let it effect my life so completely.”
I am currently faced with many overseas trips next year for work. I am terrified of going! If I get detained and can’t board this will affect my *work*. This is unacceptable.
The insanity of “security theater” has reached the breaking point for me. The only hope I see of reversing the trend is to avoid air travel so throughly that the airlines take a stand and push back on invasive, unproven, and de-humanizing security procedures.
Scientific health reasons why people should Opt-Out of going through unproven full body scanners http://bit.ly/ci3M7m
Doctors, incl Nobel Laureate, letter request TSA cease using & independent eval of full body scanners http://n.pr/bKGCKx
there really ought to be a fourth option. I can’t avoid flying, but my response is NOT “No – It is a necessary procedure to ensure terror plots are thwarted.”
It is NOT necessary!
I have already changed my plans for travel this year, and also rearranged my holiday schedules as a result of the TSA procedures. I will not be subjected to radiation at these levels, and my wife, whose employment involves radiology, refuses to be irradiated at these levels. Since our only other alternative to be permitted to fly would be to allow ourselves to be subjected to what amounts to an assault, we choose not to fly.
In a way this is sad, the airlines will be the ones who pay for this policy by lost flyers, and lost profits.
I will certainly avoid flying on holiday in the future – the idea of my children’s naked images being recorded by airport security staff is more than I can stand. Who knows in what perverted ways these might be used.
Sadly, though, this means that the terrorists are winning. They are forcing us to change our lifestyles.
I have plans to go to Macau soon and am already looking into plans to travel by boat. I don’t care if it takes a week to get there. my wife and I won’t subject ourselves to this. might as well take a cruise and enjoy every bit of it.
I’m from Australia, the US would be a great place to visit. I’d rather go anywhere else with these stories I’m hearing.
The next time I fly – I will opt out again. This time I will ask the name of the TSA agent who will try to assault me and inform him that I will sue him personally if he proceeds.
Since I do not want to punch some TSA sicko I do not fly any more. I used to fly 2 or 3 times per month. No anymore.
The full body scans are a new stupidity during this presidency. These are new machines that also produce radiation.
A respected socialist will never condone the humiliation of the population that is taking place at the airports.
The way they touch women, little boys and girls SICK very SICK SICK …TSA=pedophiles wet dream job.
We are so tired of this OBAMA government. I am a democrat that voted all Republican this time. Counting the days to see these guys gone!! He has damaged the Democratic social agenda so bad !!!
We stopped flying. TSA is just a bunch of sickos and the OBAMA government does nothing. They are so off to the needs of people.
They are setting us in a very difficult and embarrassing situation.
So I do not fly anymore.
1 – No body scanners.
2 – No touching of body parts.
3 – Big apology from OBAMA
At that time I may consider flying again.
I am a democrat that voted all Republican this time. You want my vote you better listen.
I have already e-mailed my future governor and my future senator about this aberration going on.
Have a look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJGvsAgpf ig
Already affected my decision. I have now stopped flying, period. Sad, as I was getting my free flight on the next one, but I will not subject myself, much, much less my wife, to such crass behavior touted as ‘safety.’ Bye.
I have not flown since my daughter and I were frisked when she was in diapers held to my chest with one arm while they searched the other. Then I switched arms and they did it again. My daughter is now 8 years old.
This is a bogus poll.
No I am not going to change my place. But, No, this is not because I believe the procedures are needed for national security.
Is this a fox owned organization?
TSA procedures are patently un-American and the responsible parties, in and out of government 9such as the lobbyists who pushed sale of the screening equipment, etc.) should be arrested. They won’t be, so I won’t fly. Period.
I am a victim of sexual assault. The court date for the trail has yet to be set yet. I am still afraid to leave the house on most days. My husband wanted to take the family on a ski vacation prior to the trial so we could relax and have some sense of normalcy before the trial commences but don’t believe I would be able to get through the security checkpoint for I will not submit to either a scan or a search. No one can touch me. I attended my grandmother’s funeral this weekend and couldn’t even be hugged by my closest relatives without horrible flashbacks. The idea of submitting to this physical or virtual search is like being assaulted all over again. It is sad that my family has to miss out on a vacation because of this policy.
I bought a plane ticket right before this went into effect. I have been flying twice a month and opted for a pat down once instead of placing my body in the human microwave. These new procedures were not in effect then. I don’t have much choice on this flight but i will have choices on future flights. Either this stops or I won’t fly.
Notice the lack of outrage from the media and the libs now that zero is President?
The TSA has crossed the Rubicon. There are no reforms that can redeem what has become such an evil institution. The TSA must be abolished, and airlines must be allowed to set their own security screening procedures. As the brave John Tyner rightly points out, virtually all acts of terrorism in the air, since Flight 93, have been foiled by passengers, not by the TSA. At a certain point, we have to accept that someone absolutely determined to carry out a terrorist attack will find a way to get through security, and it will be up to courageous, ordinary citizens to stop it.
I am a citizen, not a subject, I do not allow myself to be groped by people who work for me, nor do I give up my creator granted rights to be free from unreasonable searches.
They need to come up with another way, molesting children is not a long term winning strategy.
I will simply not fly, I do often, but I Will choose to change my habits.
I refuse to give up even a modicum of my freedom for perceived (not even actual) security.
Amtrak!
We will not be flying till these scanners and pat downs are removed. This month we will drive 8 hours to avoid airlines, and in 6 months (if the scanners/frisking do not disappear) we will drive over half way across the country (over 1500 miles) there and back to avoid the scanners. If the airlines want my business they need to tell the TSA to back off and get their paws off my kids.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. —Ben Franklin (1775)
Obama has proven to be so incompetent we can’t trust his judgment. So, if Napolitano says all this is safe, why should we believe her. She also said the borders are safe. These people are simply not credible. Why should I allow a body search based on random selection? I don’t give up my rights to unreasonable searches by flying. There should be levels of screening….if I flunk level one, go to level two, etc. Otherwise, keep your mitts off me and don’t spray me with radiation. Middle eastern men, traveling alone or in groups have been responsible for blowing up innocent people. Grandmas and teenage girls have not been doing that, so leave them alone. This is as dumb as not allowing kids to wear American flag t-shirts because Mexican flag wearers will be insulted. Stupid.
TSA – Living, heavy breathing proof that the Terrorists have won.
It is really simple. This is a full declaration of war by our federal government against our Constitution and Bill of Rights – pure and simple, nothing less.
These pat downs are a violation of our 4th Amendment rights, and I do not give a d a ma n what they say, it is illegal.
Most of our present federal government leaders pose and clear and present danger to our Republic and are, by definition, treasonous and Domestic Enemies of the State.
They make a declaration of war against us and our Constitution, then I suggest a few million of us get together and give them what they’re asking for.
This week we will drive 8 hours each way to avoid the scanners and if they are not gone by April we will be driving for 2.5 days to get to a brothers wedding to avoid these scanners. If the airlines want our business the TSA needs to keep its hands off my little ones and off of me–we will walk through a metal detector and our luggage can be scanned, but we will not be assaulted.
How TSA is not protecting you:
When you go through TSA security do they check the validity of the boarding pass? NO! Such as scan the boarding pass it to see if it is real? NO! Take this scenario: Person 1 buys a ticket online and prints out a boarding pass at home. Person 1 is run up against a no fly list. Then an accomplice, Person 2, with home computer, some software and a printer makes up a fake boarding pass with their name on it. Person 1 checks in at the airport or online and gives Person 2 their boarding pass. Person 2 heads to TSA security, presents the fake boarding pass with valid ID. Boarding pass name is check to ID which is checked to the person presenting the ID. The fake boarding pass is never checked to see if it is valid and the name of Person 2 is never checked against the no fly list. Person 2 proceeds through security, tosses the fake boarding pass and boards the plane using Person 1 boarding pass.
Everyone feel safe now?
I know of too many medical people over exposed to effects of xray even with lead vests and now have some kind of cancer…..let alone being bombarded everytime I fly. The TSA people should be concerned also. This stuff is apparently NOT confined to just that area.
These TSA individuals are not psychologically capable to handle this duty of ‘pat down’ or ‘screening’. They have enormous ego power issues as it is without adding this. I have had enough. I guess if I have to fly ….I will charter a small plane. UGH!
My wife will not travel when she has to have this kind of pat down. She went through a terrible incident about five years ago when pregnant. Woman insisted on feeling her breasts to stomach. It was way over the top. She was holding my then less than two year old son. I was told to stay back. She could not stand being touched. What they did not know is she was once sexually assaulted, and this just brought it back. Nobody wanted to hear any of this. She had a physical reflex action to block this search. You would if you had been through what she went through. So the tsa needs to back the F off. They are getting way over the top. I travel two or three times monthly. I could care less about pat downs or the machines personally. My wife cannot stand the idea of traveling NOW.
Has anyone publicly claimed violation of religious freedom from this abomination?
How about violation of my Fourth Amendment Rights?
Love to know how the Thousands Standing Around (waiting to feel our privates) would respond to these statements.
I’ve sworn off flying long before this latest humiliating attack on the customers’ privacy. I used to fly several times a year, but the security has just ruined it. I’ll drive 1,500 miles now before I’ll get on a plane, and would only fly in case of a last-minute emergency. I tired of being treated like a criminal a long time ago.
I have already cancelled my vacation plans to Orlando for a Disney vacation. That was a significant amount of money. No flight, no money going to Florida. Thinking about driving to Canada where I have more freedom. I’ll spend my deflated money up there.
I will find other means to reach my destinations from now on or as long as this intrusion into We The People’s freedoms are being trampled on. This is past stupidity. The people need take a stand and say enough is enough, and good bye to obama and his henchmen. What a joke he and his administration is. I too will vote repubilican from now on or anothe party with common sense, who is proud of America, loves the country and what it stands for.
I have posted my feedback to both the TSA https://contact.tsa.dhs.gov/DynaForm.asp x?FormID=10
and to my frequent flier mileage carrier AA.
Unfortunately this is no joking issue. Reminds one of the early days of Socialist NAZI Germany… TSA employees need to be held accountable so they weed out the inappropriate ones, off task and on their own agenda.
They should put these full body scanners and obtrusive pat downs on the streets of Chicago. Maybe they will cut down the number of murders there, and in Detroit and maybe parts of the border with Mexico…
We the passengers have often come to the aid of the flight crew in assisting with unruly passengers as well as those intent on destroying the aircraft.
Redeploy these scanners to the Border crossing with Mexico and the Streets of our murder capital cities…
Otherwise, keep these jack booted, NAZI thugs from twisting the nipples of 12 year old young ladies…
IMHO
In the five and a half hours it takes me to drive from my house to the airport, park my car and go through security, I can drive comfortably in my car between 300 and 350 miles. I can stop and stretch, bring snacks or stop at a restaurant. In order to fly from my house in northern NM to Corpus Christi, TX, I have the 5.5 pre-flight and then have to fly W to Phoenix before flying east to Dallas and then S to CC. That’s two plane changes and the possibility of being stuffed in a seat next to the fat lady in the circus or someone sneezing and coughing or perhaps a mother with a small child on their lap, whining and crying.
Thanks, I’ll take two leisurely days enjoying the scenery in my own car.
I like to travel to Mexico and when I do that, I take the bus. It is far more comfortable than the airplane.
Once I heard about the scanners, I decided then and there that I would not fly anymore for any reason. The “enhanced pat down” has simply “enhanced” that decision! If my elderly father (90) who lives in Florida became ill tomorrow, I would not be able to go to see him, or if he passed away, I would not be able to go to his funeral. I will not subject myself to radiation or a grope!
I have written to Senators Boxer and Feinstein about this, demanding action be taken.
A little earlier, I checked out a video and blog by John who was at the San Diego airport just yesterday and had a serious run-in with TSA when he opted out of the scanner. Yesterday, I listened to Alex Jones interview one of his own employees who had been detained and handcuffed to a chair when she refused for herself and her two young daughters (20 mos., and 8 yrs) to be groped at a Florida airport. They tore up her ticket right in front of her!
Refuse to fly, people! The airlines will respond when their profits take a dive. And I support 100% anyone who is brave enough to stand up to these nut-case TSA employees. How do they sleep at night???!?
Hey TSA,
How about if your children are subjected to this? If, you think it’s OK? Social Services needs to know about you!
CitizenJohnDoe
Yes indeed I will travel by car or rail and avoid getting scoped and groped! We need to eliminate the terrorist problem at it’s source, we are crazy to put up with these people any longer! Enough already!
The terrorists have won.
You all missed the point completely!
You learned nothing from the Holocaust! The Nazis hearded 6 million Jews in an orderly line into GAS CHAMBERS!
The terrorist teams are going to go to the front of the line and back of the line and and blow all you sheeps to the slaughter; currently scheduled for right after “Dont ask Dont Tell” is repealed so there will be no “gay” deferment when Obama implements the DRAFT!…and the government knows it; all you need is dogs at the airport entry doors to sniff for two seconds!
Do not take my word for it that this war is only a scripted weapons deal; listen President Eisenhower the supreme commander of the allied forces in weapons deal two (aka: WW2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y06NSBBR tY
The USA stabbed the Shah of Iran in the back and brought in the dictators that parade as religious to keep Iranian oil substantially off the market; same with Iraq: invade, create civil war, but keep Iraqi oil off the market at all cost…high oil price = money for weapons sales to OPEC; then send in the KGB types to stir up a “nice long lasting war and sell lots of weapons! (C 1991: long war)
That gulf oil spill kicked 50,000 bbl/day and there are 4500 wells in the US sector of the gulf! You have been had; Madoff has nothing on this keep the oil off the market con!
And that is a better explanation than you received from Bush/Obama/: two/three peas in a pod…
And if you want more proof of just how dumb down and brainwashed you are, listen to Yuri Andropov, Vladimr Putin’s mentor had to say about you in the early 1980s:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7dplJP1E 6I
We take our grandkids on vacation twice a year. We will continue to do so, but not by commercial air. It is one thing for the government to want to play around with my crotch. But it will be cold day in hell before I let one of them molest my grandkids. They can spin it any way they want, but is it sexual molestation of a minor.
If your driving time is less than eight hours, you’d be better off driving than flying. Unlimted food stops, restroom breaks at your convenience, no molestation, no groping of your genitals, no chance a pissed off pilot of nose diving into ground, …etc
Yes, alternative plans will be made before I or my family subit to our governments version of 1930′s Germany. Bush started it and Obama and his band of merry men/women are making it even more dispicable.
I would like to see all of our senators, representatives, Supreme Court, and the bureaucrats in line with us commoners. Again the royal government in DC is above us. But we keep voting them in.
I need to make a business trip across country in a few weeks, and I’ve decided to drive instead of fly for only this reason. I will not allow the government irradiate me, no matter how small. It’s not a health thing, it’s principle. And there is no way they are going to give me a pat down. NO WAY.
Liberty isn’t taken away all at once. It is gnawed and removed piece by tiny piece until we’re stripped of it.
“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” -Ben Franklin 1775
I have been through security screening at Ben Gurion airport which by far is more effective and far less intrusive. Israeli security agents are young inquisitive college graduates. They are trained to ask probing questions. There are no pat downs or porno machines. The proof is in the pudding. Their security is the best in the world. Our government could have saved billions of dollars by rejecting the machine approach and accepting intelligent profiling as practiced by Israel. The TSA high school dropouts are no match for the creative determined terrorists we face today.
Janet is a dunce. She is a confirmed idiot who thinks she can make us safe with radiation and pat downs. She is a sex pervert as is the TSA staff who agree to implement such procedures.
Time to abolish the Department of Homeland Security when she saids the Borders are safe and the air is free of terrorist. She ought to know: She is one.
There is this mythical country that the same people that are trying to blow up our aircraft are trying to blow up theirs. They have been handling this threat for over 40 years with no problems. You know what they do? The TALK to the passengers they THINK would be the most likely to be terrorists. Isn’t that AMAZING! And thin is the best part, the government personal that are conducting these interviews aren’t union, is this a fantasy or what!?
The mythical country is Israel. Maybe we should have had a talk with them before creating this band of badge happy morons the TSA. Kind of like talking to the Dutch when it comes to holding back the sea.
you poor sheeple, you will do anything the government says to do. Remember it was the German citizens who were the hands of Hitler, they were told they need to do all the horrible things they did for their own security. What are you willing to do to get a pat on your empty little head from the government? Just about anything?
Just profile. You know that is how to mitigate the risk but we can’t be politically correct, so we will pay the price. They win by making us follow our insane PC procedures. We will change only after enduring alot of incidents.
Look, TSA can’t even perform the x-ray inspection of our carry-ons adequately. On October 12 I took an Alaska Airlines flight from Seattle to Houston. During the flight a small, elderly, frail Asian man made his way down the aisle to the galley area. He put down his canvas briefcase/tote in the empty seat next to us and fumbled with the plastic wrap on a noodle bowl. Failing to tear it off, he took a 2-inch, wide-bladed, pocket knife out and proceeded to cut off the plastic. I stared at the knife in shock and nudged my husband. “He has a knife! How did he get a knife through security???”
We don’t have the AIT scanners yet in Seattle, but unfortunately they do have them in Lihue, Hawaii, where I had planned to spend a week in our timeshare this coming February. I REFUSE to subject myself to either the irradiation/virtual strip-search or the sexual-assault “pat down”. I have probably flown for the last time, unless I can put trips together that go through the small out-of-the-way airports.
Used to fly a lot. Now we ONLY fly if we have to go more than one time zone, and sometimes even then, we drive. Basically, we’re down to flying only to leave for another continent, like our trips to South America. At least going there, we only have to be humiliated on this end – on the other end, where it should count more since we’re heading back to US airspace, it is routine procedures at best. Add to that, our bags are usually manhandled and entered, our flights are rarely on time, there is no food, the seats are too small for comfort of any type, there are never any pillows or blankets, the food, if served, is horrible, and well, you got the picture. If they did this downgrade of service on the trains, it would be like going from a first class sleeper, to being tied on the rails!!
You bet I’ll make alternative plans. I will not have my spouse and children sexually assaulted by the societal losers who are now TSA government employees when they let Muslims go through the line with no screening, but stop and frisk an 80 year-old grandmother.
If we really want to stop terrorism on aircraft, we need to borrow a page from the Israelis and get serious about interviews and profiles. Sadly, the average TSA employee cannot speak good English, knows nothing about profiles, and may not even be an American citizens.
I knew Jane Napolitano would be a horrible Homeland Security Secretary, and she has lived up to expectations.
If we’re not going to get serious about airport and airline security, and trade TSA fools for good security people, then the airline industry in the United States will be permanently crippled, along with the business sector.
AmendmentIV to the US Constitution “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath of affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
The TSA works under contract with the U.S.Government and is directly violating our IVth Amendment right as guarantied by the U.S.Constitution.
As a company owner from Canada I deal with US companies and sometimes have to travel down there. Not any more. I refuse to have my wife or me be sexually assaulted just for the privilege of ordering goods made in the US. Last week I cancelled a $5.3 million contract because of this stupidity and I let the companies I deal with know why. I know that my business purchases may not seem like much for some of the larger companies there, but I know of at least 4 others company owners who have or are in the process of doing the same. The US’s foolishness is Korea’s gain in this case.
Many years ago, I used to fly more legs in a year than most commercial pilots. In the last few years my flying has been limited to 4-5 trips per year and I wonder how the heavy travelers put up with the crap. My last few flights have convinced me that I will never fly again. I have made one trip that I would normally use a commercial flight and early next month will be my 2nd driving trip instead of flying. The trip will be to the LA area from Alabama and will cost much more than airline travel plus the many hours of driving. I have driven this before but it was a sight seeing vacation type trip with some business at the other end. The air lines will not miss my few dollars but I am not flying any more commercial air lines. If companies like Jet Suite serviced this area and 4 of us could get together then a charter might be another option to driving. More money than most might want to spent – but at least it is an option
This enhanced pat down/full body scanners is nuts! If is all so safe and not sexual assault then why don’t US federal officials go through the indignity of TSA searches? Why don’t we see Sec. Napolitano sujected to these searches? (OK so instinctivelythe TSA would not have the power on or squeeze Sec. N’s ‘junk’… it would be sham) …why aren’t Washington’s elected officials and other bureaucrats sujected to this? Oh is it because they never actually fly with normal people .. the little people that pay their salaries? They are too important to fly commercial aviation? Let’s watch Mrs. Obama or Nancy Pelosi be groped by a TSA official and see if there is a policy change….How is it that El Al doesn’t have to use these stupid techniques? Maybe TSA should talk to them …no better yet, hire El Al to run the US security system!!!
I am excited and eager to join the class action lawsuit against DHS, TSA, Sec. Napolitano, Sec. Chernoff, etc … and then wwatch the dramatic increase in cancer resulting from this fraud just about the time Obama Care kicks in (there go the predicted medical savings) as these useless Bush/Obama Wars celebrate their Golden Anniversary as we are still engaged in conflict against the boogie man! Wake up people … this is a hoax….
The real solution to the security problem is simply too politically incorrect to even consider: Allow passengers to arm themselves against any would-be terrorists. No, no! Guns are dangerous! Yes, they are, and especially to the bad guys!!!
I will not be subject to unnecessary x-rays and will not stand for anyone touching me that is not my husband. I think everyone male and female should dress in female Muslim garb and just express your religious rights to only be fondled on your head and neck and there you have it, personal freedom. Just don’t take off your outfit until you get off the plane. Better yet someone should open up a spot next to the car rental spot in the airport where you can rent Muslim wear and turn it back in at the other end of your flight.
Ms Napolitano, you are a public employee. Appointed, not elected. As such, you have never had to ‘prove your worthiness” to have such a position. As titular head of TSA, you are the one whose face the public places on TSA.
Your article in USA Today speaks of the ‘safety’ of the AIT systems. As an engineer with experience with X-ray systems (E.G.&G. Astrophysics, Los Alamos Labs), I can state that your information is absolutely incorrect. Ionizing radiation is to be avoided at all costs, and the effects are cumulative.
You state “The imaging technology that we use cannot store, export, print or transmit images.” That is a blatant lie. Those functions are built in, originally intended for system diagnostics, they none-the-less are active and functional at all times.
“commitment to be one step ahead of those who seek to do us harm.” This is a lie. It is a knee-jerk reaction, not a pro-active solution. Anyone familiar with pyrotechnics technology would tell you that there are easier, faster, more efficient and less invasive techniques for PREVENTING ‘nasty’ devices from getting into airports, much less on board aircraft.
M. Napolitano, you have repeatedly demonstrated your lack of understanding of the basic situation, preferring to build a cadre of poorly-trained, inept, and often criminal employees rather than adopting the proven techniques and technologies that provide Israel with the safest air travel in the world. In short, Madame, your pandering to your group of pedophiles and perverts, calling them ‘professionals,’ only makes you look, well, like a Madame, of the lowest caliber.
Pity. One would have hoped more for you. Are your parents proud?
After going through all the security, I can grab a bagel to eat on the plane….along with the THICKEST, SHARPEST PLASTIC KNIFE I’ve ever seen to spread my cream cheese. I could sooooo easily slash a throat with it; and I calmly, in plain view, carry it onto the plane with a big smile on my face.
TSA is a joke, airplane security is a joke. And if Muslim women are going to get a pass from this pat down, while we Americans are treated like the terrorists TSA should be PROFILING, well, will someone please bomb someone and get this war started!!!!!!!
This is a expensive an unnecessary intrusion. Use the Israeli method of physcological profiling people waiting in line.
The 4th Amendment states: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
THE TSA IS UNREASOONABLE IN THEIR SEARCHES. IF THEY WON’T PROFILE – WON’T USE THERMAL SCANNERS THEN I WON’T FLY.
I cherish(ed) my Premier Executive status with United in bypassing the lines. But now add government mandated strip searches and its agents copping a feel every time?
No thanks. Sorry United. It’s not your fault.
Only after liquid explosives were attempted to be used did TSA ban liquids. A year after the underwear bomber, they decide on patdowns. It’s all reactive non security.
Explosives can be cast into a lot of items that pass through security. Detonation electronics can be disguised in electronics. Explosives can be hidden inside body cavities. Finally, explosives could be injected into plastic containers inside the abdomen, etc.
Extrapolate to the future using this reactive approach. No carry on. Full body cavity searches. Pre flight CT scans…
THe better method ignored by Homeland Security.- the Israeli Method

“Called behavior pattern recognition or BPR, the program has trained more than 100 state police troopers who provide security inside and around the airport. “Our troopers are in a proactive mode, using their skills and training to observe passenger behavior,” says State Police Major Thomas Robbins, director of aviation security for the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), which owns and operates Logan.
Troopers look for people behaving in unusual ways. For example, troopers would question a person buttoned up in a trench coat on a 100-degree day. Troopers would also approach a person with no baggage buying a ticket at the international travel counter. “There may be nothing wrong, but this behavior would attract our attention,” Robbins says.
Troopers interview people who catch their attention. Questions include the purpose of the person’s visit to Boston and his or her destination. Along the way, troopers ask for identification and check the person’s ticket and passport. Troopers are trained to handle interviews in a friendly manner, designed both to avoid giving offense and to put interviewees at ease and off guard. “
For many years I flew commercial 1-3 times a week, sometimes more. In 2003 I changed jobs and stopped flying because 1. airline customer service was declining and 2. the TSA security process had gotten way out of control. I have not considered traveling by air for either business or pleasure since that time. I drive everywhere now. I live in the SE US. If I can’t get get to a destination by car, train, or boat I don’t go. The TSA has grown to be an insatiable administrative monster. I do believe in the shot time it has been alive it has become more of a burden to the taxpaying public than the IRS.
Retired American Airlines Captain. Retired January of 2007 and haven’t been to the Airport since! I refuse to participate in the security charade. Of course it would help a lot if the Terrorists were actually afraid of Barry the Bafoon.
TSA cost American $450 this Thanksgiving because my Mom’s driving 7 hours instead. And that was before the guy in San Diego.
I had plans to fly cross country for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. I have cancelled both trips due to this crap.
Seems like our government is more afraid of its own citizens then any would be terrorists. Personally, I am more afraid of our government than terrorists.
Remember, TSA received the directive straight form the top: Mr Barry Soetoro, AKA: OBAMA. “We The Poeple” better wake up, band and resist or we will be picked off one at a time.
Watch what he says, not what he does.
As a medical professional, my biggest concern is adults and children who may have a history of sexual abuse/molestation, this touching may be perceived as an assault and compound individual issues. This is an invitation to every sicko to apply for the fun job of molesting women, men and children, or getting their kicks watching virtual strip searches. The radiation is also a concern. I have been radiated many times during my life and feel additional radiation is unwarranted. The lawsuits should start ASAP. Travelers and companions should keep their cell cameras ready to record any unnecessary touching or inappropriate behavior.
Any TSA personnel who touches me where the sun doesn’t shine will be subject to a knee to the groin or will draw back a stump!
Janet Napolitano flies ButchBaby Airlines, and doesn’t ever go commercial. She is unwilling to go through the same pain WE go through on every flight.
Obama is the worst President in our history. Of course, he and his Marie Anoinette wife fly on our tax dollars are their 747s with dozens of servants all over the world.
I will not fly except for business, and then I only fly when I have to.
TSA, and American Airlines, have ruined the once-exciting adventure of flying.
The time to push back and stop this is NOW!Or soon you wont be able to take a train, bus or drive long distance without being subjected to the same kinds of checks. Their “logic” will be the same: it’s for your safety. Where’s the ACLU in all this?
Are you kidding? I have reordered my life to avoid flying altogether. Obama and company have transformed Amerika into a communist, totalitarian state which makes the former Soviet Union look like a Utopian wet dream. Obama stands shoulder to shoulder with foreign leaders to condemn and then sue US border states which choose to defend their borders rather than be overrun by armed political insurgents while you and I are subjected to the most extraordinary physical searches on the planet. What’s wrong with this picture?
The main thing keeping me from flying is the cost. Having traveled around the world I have endure much worse.
I had the worst experience in Tampa last year. I politely refused to go into the scanner. I was immediately treated like a criminal. They separated me from my two young children and yelled at me when I stepped out of the glass booth to reassure them. I was yelled at, belittled and left humiliated. My children were scared and I was left in tears. I now try to avoid flying whenever possible.
The terrorists hated America’s freedoms, so our idiotic American leaders are taking all of our freedoms away, one by one, so as not to offend the terrorists!
It does not make many folks feel any safer to be felt up, or remove their shoes for, or be scanned by some high school graduate (maybe) that got his job opportunity when he ordered a pizza and his job application was plastered all over the damn box lid! Good grief…..Are these folks REALLY qualified to be security agents after perhaps a 2 day course on “How to feel pretty girls, handsome fellows, and old women for fun and profit” It is time to get serious about profiling and stop this ridiculous charade!
Article 4 of the United States Constitution protects the citizens of this country from unlawful search and seizure. Unless there is reason to suspect you have committed a crime, you may not be searched. Stand on your rights while you still have some.
I never thought I would prefer road trips to airlines with my motion sickness, but after being treated like a criminal at the El Paso International Airport, I will stock up on Dramamine and take the extra day or so to drive wherever we decide to travel. Everyone had to go through the scanners, with 3 TSA agents per scanner, each trying to stare you down before they grunted and pointed directing you where to stand, as well as additional TSA members posted at the baggage x-ray machines shouting out the various rules and regulations. I’m no terrorist, but it was enough to make me want to punch out the first person who told me to take off my belt.
I am going to drive 2,000 miles round-trip from El Paso, Tx to Weldon, California because I REFUSE to be “searched” when attempting to board an aircraft. It makes no sense to me to pay to have to expose myself to either radiation or the touch of some rubber-gloved stranger! Let me know just how many potential bombers you stop with this method in the next couple of years. Oh, by the way, what about the women in burkas? Do you pat them down or make them stand in front of a body exposing screen? The inmates are now running the asylum!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What if someone invents an explosive powder that can be sprinkled on your hair and will explode when triggered by a bobby pin or some such nonsense? Will we all have to shave our heads? I feel like the world has gone mad while I was sleeping. This has to be a dream.
My father called me over the weekend, said airfare was cheap and that he wanted to fly the grandkids down to Orlando to take them to Disneyworld. Between the families that’s 6 grandkids. I told him about the TSA mess created by Janet Napolitano and President Obama, the genital grabbing of children or the dangerous x-ray machines and said there was no way in the world my kids were going anywhere near that.
my family is driving this holiday instead of flying, and we have looked into taking the train. we can have a private room for the price of 1 airline ticket. we could fly to and from regional airports but that is only a temporary solution. this is much bigger than just flying, this is big brother out of control.this is the line in the sand,”you shall not pass”
Hard to do when you live in Hawaii…but once back on the mainland I will not fly in the continental US…Canada…and won’t even go to Mexico.
“Are you kidding? I have reordered my life to avoid flying altogether. Are people like you still ranting like this? This has been in motion since the great GWB was in office and even before. Wake up and look around. It’s not ideology…it’s corruption of power. It’s the dark side of humanity. Of what fell Rome, etc.
The terrorists have won. Our overreactive government is now the institutional terrorist. Why can’t our leaders see this? If the terrorists actually do something it would only affect a few hundred. But the TSA is terrorizing MILLIONS. This is insanity.
I try never to fly at all anymore. Ever since 9/11 it’s become such a hassle, the lines too long, have to show up too early, the planes to crowded. I traveled for my job for years, and flying was fun in those days. NOT ANYMORE. So if I can’t drive to where I am going, I triple think going at all.
I flew this past week and had my first experience with the new body scan. I went into it with an open mind, but I am done with flying unless I just can’t find an alternative. The TSA agent demanded that I put my wallet (I’m a guy) on the conveyor. I refused, as I would be on the scanner and out of sight of my wallet. They then told me that I could hold it in my hand during the scan. Okay, I figured. Well, when the scan was finished the TSA agent demanded my wallet and then proceeded to look through every nook and cranny in it, as if they latest terrorist tactic is wallet bombs. Naked scans, I don’t see so they don’t bother me. Some clown going through my wallet….that bugged the hell out of me. This government is WAY out of line.
could not imagine getting stuck in a plane waiting for hours to take off… now getting felt up or having one of the kids subject to a groin check… no way. When did we hand over the right not to have our genitals fondled just go visit grandma?
uh, look around the country, and we are worried about some underwear bomber? Any building or public place at anytime could go boom at any second. We have more problems with GANGS any given day then terrorist.
Truth is I stopped flying (when not absolutely needed) after the increased security of 9/11. The fact is we are all being treated like crap because of political correctness. We all know who is likely to bomb, and what area of the world these bombers are likely to come from.
When Americans start bombing planes in significant numbers, I will succumb to the psychotic increase in security. Until then, the scenery is far more beautiful from a car window.
I have not flown since 911 because I’ve been amazed at the ridiculous ‘security’ procedures and they keep getting worse. Honestly I’m a bit ashamed of myself for not flying. I should be flying or at least going into the security area then refusing to be searched like some of the brave people I’m seeing lately.
It will cost more – but I will book open space on private jets before they will subject me to the radiation or the hand!
We’ve been given a false choice: submit to a strip search or a sexual assault, just to get on an airplane. I won’t be submitting to either, and plan to make it clear to TSA that I will file sexual assault charges if they grope me. This simply has to stop, especially because there are more effective and less invasive ways to keep air travel safe.
Tomorrow – Monday the 15th – we are organizing and calling Congressional representatives to put pressure on them to force a change. Not just any Rep or Senator, but the ones directly responsible for TSA oversight. The full details, including contact information for each Congressman, is here: http://www.savvytravel.net/2010/11/call- congress-about-the-nude-o-scopes-monday- november-15/
Please call and make your voice heard!
I live in Washington state, and my family lives in Texas. My husband and I have already bought (non-refundable) tickets to visit in January, or we would never fly again–at least until these gestapo tactics stop. After that, we will drive or take the train/bus. It’s horribly inconvenient, but it’s better than being photographed naked and/or sexually assaulted by government thugs. Oh, and when we fly in January? If we’re herded to the scanners, we will opt out. It is inconceivable that we should have to be radiated, photographed naked and/or sexually assaulted in order to visit my elderly parents. We are not terrorists.
maybe if we can put the TSA in the capital building and have them feel up all the dirty politicians who walk into our Capital building.
The TSA should be abolished and privatized to a Proven and reputable private company who will not feel people up. The cost will be cut by over 60% and terrorist will all be apprehended and perhaps dealt with appropriately before they can do harm.
Everything the federal government does or has done has been Destructive and Oppressive to the American citizens. The TSA is just another example of the federal government enslaving us and violating our constitutional rights over and over and over!
Destructive Poltics – the book
I had an experience in Atlanta where TSA showed their incompetence! After embarrassing me, accusing me of having explosive residue on my bag, removing very small manicure scissors from my carry-on and then announcing that was the problem, I was cleared to continue! Since I was about to miss my flight, I did not question why they had no further concern about the supposed explosive residue that set off bells and whistles attracting the TSA supervisor to question me as to my ID, boarding credentials, etc. TSA is a joke! They can contact me for more details if they care to defend their idiots.

Yes.. cause they don’t even let you have a smoke after..LOL.. seriously though I don’t like flying to begin with so they made the decision not to easier..this year we drove out to UT from Chicago.. 3 year ago on the last family reunion we drove to CO.. 2 years before we drove to SC.. 2 years before that we flew to AZ it was to much of a hassle then and it’s worse now.. and cost way to much.. to many restrictions on how much luggage so buying anything is to costly.. no driving is the way to go..
If I have a choice to fly, I don’t don’t fly. Ever. Forget it. Won’t fly, never.
If flying is a requirement for my work, I’ll find a different employer. I’ve had enough.
And I won’t consider offering a flight to any family member to visit me. Flying is not a choice any more. I’m done with it.
Hello, My wife and I average 3-4 flying trips per year. But have decided to boycott US Airports and drive. We plan to drive up to Vancouver BC and fly from there if we are going overseas. This is ashame, bad government that creates enemies, eventually views everyone as an enemy out of the necessity to control.
I will never fly again. Already making plans for my 2900 mile trip (each way) to visit family by train.
The Israel airlines offered to teach our idiots had to conduct themselves in finding out who the “bad” guys are and the idiot in the W. House said “no thanks.”..He is so anti Semitic won’t even let them teach our idiots in the airports! El Al has had a safe airline and they do a thorough job. That Janet Neapolitano is beyond belief! She is so stupid there are no words to describe her ignorance. I fly only Southwest so far no problems with crouch searches or x-rays. You know they sit and watch them and get a laugh or two. Thes foreigners checking us and many can barely even walk and chew gum.
We also bought a 42 foot RV for traveling for fun in the good weather months. Nomore crotch searches! No more dangerous x-rays! My husband was a pilot for 28 years with United and he has been x-rayed enough!
I used to fly, before 9/11, when it was still civilized!
Our own American government has caved in to terrorists, and is taking the freedoms from us which the terrorists never could.
I haven’t flown since before 9/11, and won’t ever fly again until these asinine “security” procedures are repealed.
I flew twice last month… I’m done with it until I start getting treated like I have rights again. I saw the scanners in Atlanta and was praying to myself they did not choose me. When we start feeling terrorized by our own government, it’s time to stop flying…. Especially when real terrorists can walk right by while 10yr old children are having their genitals groped. It’s a sad day for America. Go to hell TSA
The Terrorists have won.
It has long been said that we would lose our liberty with a whimper, not by the barrel of a gun.
We have lost our liberty.
Why were the pat downs that existed 6 months ago that deemed us “safe” not ok now? What happened to warrant an x-ray or an intrusive pat down as the only option?
Remember the outcry from the left during the Bush administration about infringing on our privacy because Homeland Security was listening to cell phone conversations from overseas, etc.?
Where are those libs now? This is a blatant infringement of privacy, an illegal search and a flagrant violation of our Constitutional rights, but nothing is being done about it. Where’s the ACLU?
This admin has done more to violate our civil rights than any other in history, and yet nothing is being done about it.
This would never be happening if Bush didn’t natinoalize airport security. The minute the government took over, it was only a matter of time before incompetence, political correctness and the typical us vs them attitude of unionized government stooges would lead to this situation. It will only get worse until the government is fired from this job and airport security is given back to private companies.
I’ve already made alternate plans. Driving 1800 miles to mom’s house. Taking the train 900 miles do sister’s house.
I have had enough! Just canceled 4 roundtrip tickets with Airtran. Canceled 7 nights of hotel w/ 2 rooms. Cancelled over $1000 worth of Disney tickets, and the car rental too. That is a lot of dollars lost by a lot of different businesses for one little vacation cancelation. If they keep this up, the travel industry will start to speak up. We have decided to spend the money we were going to use for this vacation on anything BUT hotels, car rentals, resturants, theme parks or ANYTHING else outside of our local community. Way to go TSA!! Orlando and other tourist destinations must be really loving you bout’ now…. idiots!!!!
Think…Smugglers and convicts have been using a convenient hiding place for years.
How will the get-along-go-along-for-”security” crowd feel about the body cavity searches, after the first terrorist attack, involving explosives that are smuggled right past the body scanners and groin gropers, jammed up someone’s butt?
I’m an American living abroad in Japan and I chose not to go back home during the holiday season because it is such a hassle. Why go to America when you can meet your family and friends in Europe or Asian?
Starve the beast!
Drive, probably cheaper and quicker for less than 300 miles. Rail, takes longer but much more comfortable. Business, tele-conference, fast and cheap, a lot of advancements have been made, check Skype for entry level.
If these measures reduce business (victims) by any significant amount they WILL pay attention.
I recently read a blog where a fellow who travels by air often keeps a copy of the Fourth Amendment handy, he said it was effective in dealing with airport bullies.
MOST IMPORTANT! If these goons are going to grope under-age children, the parents have the right and responsibllity to observe the process, just as they would if the police were to do the same.
If there is even a HINT of impropriety, call the cops, the REAL cops, NOT airport cops, and charge them with child molestation and RAPE, that’s what it is.
The rest of the world laughs at us. Our government treats “We the people” like we’re terrorists, pushing us closer and closer to rising up. Actually, they want us to rise up so they can say “Told you so” and then crush us. We had a good run of democracy in the USA. Now it’s time for a dictatorship. Yes, it’s sad, but we’re basically a gutless, dumbed-down populace with its head in the sand. Just look at who we elected President. The mighty USA no longer has any moral standing in the eyes of the world. It’s over for us as a free nation. End of story.
As a child I was grouped by a stranger. As an adult, I was advised that due to all the CT scans I had due to renal cancer that I should opt out. I don’t mind being screened and having pat downs, but if you touch my private parts I will press charges, sue and hit you. I do have PTSD. President OBAMA and his cabinant is way out of control. The former Arizona governor should just leave that position and resign. As to fine, i wont pay it. Just put me behind bars.
You Americans are looking pretty silly from over here in Europe. Common sense seems to have left you.
I’ve read the comments post and are both fascinated and ired. Instead of people boycotting the airlines, effective change won’t occur unless the majority of continuing fliers object to the intrusive searches and refuse them. Now for those body scanners…I would certainly like to see the test reports from NIH & Johns Hopkins U. I have worked with terahertz waves for a bit more than ten years documenting the biological hazards with respect to human exposure. My background is cellular radiation effects with advanced studies in both physics and cellular biology, with emphasis on biomedical engineering. Based on my study’s findings, the human genome WILL be altered with multiple exposures (>25) using a concentration equal to that of the backscatter imagers. The risk of leukemia increases more than 700%. Please note that these are terahertz waves which to the general public is just a term but to the experts in the field, it represents a very small wavelength with a very high penetrating efficacy.
I thought pornography and pedophilia was illegal…Why would any loving parent for any reason allow a stranger to take a naked photo of their child or let them be gropped? Is there no shame you would not let your children endure just so you can feel safe?
Our fear will be our undoing, and to the government goes the spoils.
As for me, a terrorist by any other name is still a terrorist and I am not fooled by the color of law…Anyone who touches my child will get his/her throat ripped out.
The guys in Israel do the best job and they do not need all the expense hardware…but then they hire and train people who have some common sense.
I question if any of this security prevented anything what so ever. TSA did not prevent the Shoe, Christmas Day or the Underwear Bombers; the alert passengers did that. The TSA did not prevent the toner bombs from leaving the ground and most of all. The TSA fails to detect 50% of the guns, knives that used to test security at Airports.
Therefore, is TSA working or is it a big flop? I think it is a big flop and terrorist are not afraid of such a reactionary agency. Go back to the way it was (pre-9/11) and do not let the terrorist win.
Simple: DONT FLY! Let the airlines go broke and all the TSA agents lose their jobs! This country is off the charts!
MY WIFE & I CANCEELLING our trip to Florida now, because of the new airport “gestapo” abuse…. NO-BAMA has REALLY taken our country to the beginning of total control of ALL OUR LIVES..what is next, I dare even ask????
I would think people with say 50k frequent flyer miles would have established their security clearance. Has anyone been “patted down” while wearing a hard athletic supporter or a bullet proof vest for personal protection?
Another thought….If this is such a great way to catch terrorists, why aren’t are jails full of them? You never hear about anyone being caught with anything on them…..
I had a job that required 2 to 5 flights each working day, This was prier to 9/11 I wasn’t happy about the BS then- Now I’m retired and I wouldn’t put up with that crap for anything– C
My winter vacay travel arrangements: Amtrak + bus.
With all of us driving everywhere, what an ideal time for them to jack up gas prices through the roof! Brace yourselves, I’m sure they are on top of this when it comes to taking more of our money. Don’t you just love Marxists?
My wife wants to take the Kids to Disney World in California and tour around for around 3 weeks, we live in Australia. I have asked her to find an alternative as I do not wish to travel to America. I don’t wish to punish the American people for the actions of government.
However I must conclude until the people wake up enough to take back their country and start following their own rules (constitution etc..) I can’t trust your country with my family.
My advice – Ron Paul 2012
Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither. Who would have thought an American President said that these days.
I wish I could make alternative plans. I live in Alaska. If I’m going to visit my family on the east coast, the only way I can go is to fly.
Janet had better READ this poll!
They that give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety.
–Benjamin Franklin
I work with radiation levels many times smaller than these backscatter waves but still many of my colleagues are dying from even those smaller doses! I would NOT submit to any dosage of unshielded radiation no matter who was telling me it was safe. And I will not fly nor will I allow my loved ones to fly until there is some degree of resolution in this matter.
TSA has gone past the point of logic with this. To ensure a 100% chance of millions of children and adults being molested and irradiated against a maybe .000001% chance that this will deter a suicidal terrorist instead of just motivate him to go the extra mile and place explosives in his anal cavity makes no sense. And don’t fool yourselves, once this is accepted and that terrorist does slip through with his rectum-bomb, we and our children will soon be subject to “enhanced probings” by high-school drop-outs. We have to act now, not just blog. Copy and paste your comments and send them to your congressmen and senators. Print them out and snail mail them too. Fill their inboxes. Take your country back before it’s too late!
I live in China… you know, that “hell hole of a police state and oppression”. Nothing like this would ever be tolerated by the people. Nor would it be needed. I was planning on going to the US for xmas, guess what? not gonna do it now, not even bothering going to the US for any reason until this disgusting policy is removed.
This has nothing to do with oppression or safety and everything to do with business handouts and fat government contracts. The answer to security is simple, stop attacking people. Pull out the overseas troops, defund the CIA, no more black ops, no more covert wars.
What do you call a guy upset that his house and family was bombed so he blows up a plane full of americans? Victim? Hero?
Every single one of america’s problems is by its own hands and like a downs child, you people just dont get it that sticking your hand in the fire is what causes those burns.
I am a retired airline captain. I used to love to fly. Today, the seats have gotten closer together and there is less and less legroom, there is a charge for checked baggage that should be free, one has to remove one’s shoes, one has to take one’s laptop computer out of the case, one cannot carry shaving cream and toothpaste (now considered liquids although one is a foam and the other is a paste), and now we have full body scans and patdowns. Enough is enough!
I have a nice van and the Interstate highway system to get across the country. I prefer to drive.
My flying will be limited to trips across the ocean where flying is an absolute necessity.
This is crazy… how many Norwegians are shoe bombers? Can’t security do a little “profiling” before they get their jollies? Talk about some common sense… Who gets to pat-down Janet? Yikes. Anyway, this is over the top, another knee-jerk reaction. Again, this is not deterring the would-be bombers, it’s just distrupting “normal” people’s lives. As someone previously stated, starve the beast. Stop flying until this is resolved.
We cancelled our planned sailing vacation in the Caribbean in March and will instead motor through Florida. The airlines, Caribbean hotels, restaurants and sailboat leasing company are the losers.
Spread the word. Obama is not king. Big Sis is not Queen. The legislative branch must approve this intrusion.
Tell the agent you wont go through until he goes through 10 times.
Make them pat you down in public. PROTEST LOUDLY while they do it. Complain about the violation of your 4th amendment rights.
They scream at us, loudly ask WHY do you scream at me.
I fly and have been flying for years. TSA has ALWAYS been a joke. Accidentally I traveled for 3 years with a knife in my briefcase and they never found it.
I have taken abuse from TSA for years. NO MORE!
Yep, and these measure didn’t stop 9/11 either.
I just wonder if these screeners realize what danger they’ve been put in. i mean just to get a tooth x-rayed they put a lead apron on you and the tech leaves the room. These screeners are in close proximity to this radiation all day. Do they realize trust Janet Napolitano with their health?
Our relatives and friends died in wars for the rights our federal government unconstitutionally forfeited in the name of terrorist security after 9/11.
The truth is, American citizens have more to fear, day in and day out, from government “security” agents than militant Islamic terrorists.
Did George Bush start this with the Patriot Act? What’s next water boarding if you don’t comply?
I use to fly to Hawaii 2 to 3 times a yearsince 1974. As things have changed i.e. charging for the 2nd bag to charging for the 1st bag too on some airlines my flights have decreased; then came the new pat down rules and required naked scanner. I don’t go anymore; I stopped going as of 2008. Each trip benefited the state of Hawaii with revenue totaling 3 to 5 grand. I’m rejoicing now that I’m saving all this money and spending less elsewhere; any place I can drive that is.
Easy solution! Use more dogs to sniff for explosives. Their sense of smell is 1,000,000 times more accurate than any technology.
The New Nazi regimes will not stop at the airports, it is their foothold. Watch to see this spread like a cancer so they can keep control over us.
WOW! What a HORRIFIC example of push polling. Yes, I’ll change plans or No, we must fight terrorists. How about, No, because I have to make a living, but other nations are LAUGHING at us over this ridiculous invasion of privacy and exposure to lethal radiation which does NOT fight terrorism at all.
After spending all this money, hasseling American Citizens, and acting like complete morons, the real question is, what have they accomplished? Have the caught or arrested ANYONE trying to do anything other than travel peacefully yet? NO! Dismantle their system and lets go about our business again.
Sick, pedophile TSA Agents, yet another violation of our rights. Add it to the list of gov’t violations of our right:
They violate the 1st Amendment by placing protesters in cages, banning books like “America Deceived II” and censoring the internet.
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns.
They violate the 4th and 5th Amendment by molesting airline passengers.
They violate the entire Constitution by starting undeclared wars for foreign countries.
Impeach Obama and sweep out the Congress, except Ron Paul.

Yes. When Napolitano and all of Congress have to submit to the same degradation that the rest of American have to, let me know.
This is crap. I just experienced this intrusion for the first time over the weekend and I will not fly again until these machines are gone. I’ve written the airline we use in hopes that if enough people complain about the TSA and refuse to fly, maybe the airlines will make enough noise to make this sickening, invasive body scanning STOP. I was boxed in that thing by a couple of male security officers and felt completely trapped – they were getting annoyed with me because I began to protest and were yelling at me to stand with my hands up in the air. To top it off, some chick went through my hair afterwards because I had a barrette in. I don’t have big hair – nothing could have possibly been under there. It was just creepy. I am so livid about what’s happening in this country – WE get attacked on OUR soil and now WE are the ones being treated like criminals! I sure would hate being a TSA officer right now – this is going to get much worse before it gets better and many of them (I hope) will be out of jobs.
This is a horrible, and leading poll.
# Yes – I will make alternate travel plans to avoid intrusive security scans and patdowns
# No – It is a necessary procedure to ensure terror plots are thwarted
How about including:
# No – I must fly, and therefore suffer what I believe is an illegal search.
# No – I’m indifferent.
9/11 happened and we’ve been suffering ever since. Our rights are being stripped every day. Let me tell you what SHOULD have happened:
- We invade Afghanistan after they took their “aid and abet” Osama. Screw the Marshall plan – if we can’t find him, we leave and plan to come back when we think we can. Let the enemy in Afghanistan rebuild their own country.
- We leave Iraq where it is. Who cares?
Have you figured out how much money I’ve saved you so far? 9 years later and I’m not embroiled in two wars.
I MIGHT make the cockpit doors safer, and I WOULD arm and train the pilots. (And for the record, if we’re going to insult our pilots by implying they’re glorified bus drivers, then lets arm the bus drivers too.)
The message I would send is:
America is the land of the FREE and the home of the BRAVE. You come into OUR country and screw with us, we’ll bomb you to the stone age (which is about a week ago, based on how you’re living today). I wouldn’t make my countrymen suffer the indignities of the Patriot Act, nor the intrusive security measures. The US WAS the big dog, and should have acted like it all along.
If it’s all so necessary for airport security, why not require 100% participation, no exceptions, using the same techniques for all federal employees, including TSA and Homeland Security, plus members of Congress. I wonder what the response would be?
I am European and I had planned to go to the US in the Spring of 2011, rent a car and travel around Southwest USA for 4 weeks. But I will make different plans this time.
I hate flying. I always did. The long waits, the check in, the delays, the bad service, the food, the non-stop praying that your luggage made it on board this time…
But until now I always thought it was worth it, but this is way too much. I love the US and I would have loved visiting a new corner of this great nation, but having to choose between posing for pornographic pictures or accepting a government sanctioned sexual assault? If this is what you have to accept before being allowed on a plane in the US, I will not go. I will take a plane and my money elsewhere.
The measure of how absurd and politically correct this is are the searches and pat downs of pilots. The pilot controls the plane! If a pilot wants to bring it down he needs neither weapons nor explosives, just his decision. Why the hell are they searching pilots? The reason is out of the political correctness that has then groping blue haired grandmothers rather than run security intelligently like the Israelis and focusing their efforts on the high risk characters. All the airline attacks of the last decade have been young bearded Muslim men. Focus your attention on people who act suspiciously, on Muslims, on people from the Middle East, on people who have a sufficient Muslim identity to wear the garb etc and do spot checks randomly and infrequently on the remainder.
Obviously, 98% is meaningless. It has to be a full 100% of freedom-lovers. Obviously, that’s not going to happen because parents are willing to allow their own children to raise their tiny hands up in submission and surrender, and watch idly as an authority figure looks at their nude little body. What’s next? When does everybody have to bend over to get a better view? Sick.
Who knew Amtrak would be so attractive? And ask yourselves, where did these TSA yea-whose work before the TSA was visited upon us? Not the brightest bulbs on the planet but then if they were, they would have jobs elsewhere…Why don’t we try just a smidgeon of profiling before we force everyone else on the planet to a groping by TSA wanna-bees. Where’s the ACLU when you really need it???
The ragheads won, didn’t they? We now have f-ing idiot security people in place who don’t think, invasion of our privacy, a huge organization that has not prevented a damn thing since they were created but have collected cuticle sissors, manicure sets and lots of bottled water and cola. Support no travel day. If successful then it should be upped to once a week. Defund TSA and put the money into research and profiling. Just because we are human doesn’t mean we can’t be smart.
I had scoliosis as a child, and was subjected to frequent neck and chest x-rays. I am not being evaluated to see if a nodule found on a thyroid ultrasound is malignant or benign. No, I will not be going thru any kind of radiation scanner. So, I’m driving 500 miles rather than flying. As a nurse, I have background checks performed as part of my job. Even if the nodule comes back benign (people treated for scoliosis in the 70′s have a 40% chance of thyroid cancer and a 70% chance of developing breast cancer), I’m not going to expose my body to one more rem or sievert than I have to. They should offer thyroid shielding to anyone going thru one of these things; if I were a frequent flyer without my job history, I’d demand one.
I’m not flying anyplace! If I can’t drive there I’m not going! I just cancelled a trip in March, I will do something closer to home. I’m a cattle farmer and it reminds me a lot of how we handle and control the heard. I really don’t care if the airlines stop flying tomorrow and all the TSA gropers have to go and get a real job! Just stop flying!!! God how much would it cut down on the nations oil consumption? Of course the TSA is part of a big government union and would probably get bailed out and the heard, the tax payer will have to make the sacrifice for them?
Starve the beast?
The beast is government bureaucrats. They destroy our economy! They should be fired!
This government incompetence is astounding. Like the ostrich with it’s head in the sand, the TSA is standing guard over the demise of the transportation industry in the US. Why is it that every time there is a false flag “terrorist” attempt, we loose more and more of our civil and personal freedoms. Who is the government at war with here? The American public or Muslim terrorists? This whole situation is absurd, and Commissar Janet Incompetano is the head of the ostrich, being guided along by her ample nose by the various heads of “intelligence” (an oxymoron if ever there was one) organs of this incompetent government.
All of this new security begs the question, Are we being nudged away from flying due to the current administrations views on global warming? Obama has already made it clear he wishes to destroy the energy industry in this country over some false sense of greeness. What better way to destroy the polluting airline industry than to get it’s customers to stop using flight as a means to travel. After all, it’s not the airlines who are requiring people to go through all this intrusive exploitation, it’s the government. I seem to remember a big ruckus raised on the left about loosing liberty due to Bush’s policies, yet they are mysteriously mum violation of the 4th amendment. I guess they are looking at it from a different perspective though: Just think of all those pedophiles who can now leagally undress your children and perves who can look at you naked while you are powerless to do anything about it. Way to go Obama, you’re a rockstar to deviants everywhere. Bravo!
This is just Obama KILLING the airline industry. You are witnessing the end of air travel for the unwashed. Only those who are in the uppercrust of society should fly, the Obama’s and the Pelosi’s, we peons will just have to take the train. If they really wanted great airport security they would adopt the Israeli program of selective interviews, it really works. When was the last time anyone tried to detonate their underware on an Israeli jet?
This all is deliberate and part of the future plans. Humilation, intimidation = control. Also, if we all say we aren’t flying (and I won’t either) then the government can take over the airlines too. Object – to make the airlines go broke thus a bailout/takeover. These are all children playing their Marxist games that they are incapable of fullfilling. Too childish and incompetant.
Reuters will take its sweet time posting this comment, if at all, but here’s what’s happening with these screenings:
1. Obama/Soros Progressives are taking down the airline industry in order to nationalize it. Just like Government motors.
2. Obama/Soros Progressives are once again hurting the economy. It seems there’s nothing these folks do that actually helps us or our economy, now is there?
3. Obama/Soros Progressives want to push us all to revolt so they might declare martial law and make the puppet Obama king in name only.
Think, people. There is not one thing Obama/Soros Progressives have done that has helped us, helped our nation, helped the world. Everything is about destroying America, the Constitution. Think. Think. Think.
And where are the airlines on this? Do they want to be nationalized? Are they finished as private companies? Won’t their stockholders lose big? Why are they not speaking out against this?
Amazing this TSA invasion comes right before the busy holiday travel season, huh? What a coincidence…or not.
What if there are no coincidences?
I have to travel 800 miles from my home to the Bay Area several times a year for work. I have decided that from now on I’ll block out an extra day on each end of the trip, rent a car locally and make the 13 hour drive. In the end it will be cheaper in terms of dollars spent, although it will give my productivity a real hit. I’m not going to subject myself to the radiation or the sexual assaults because I’d be one of those guys saying, “touch my junk and we’re having real problems here.”
Each year I drive 500 miles to start my vacation. I used to fly but the hassel has become too much. I fly no more.
I think our government has gone to far. I know that I won’t be flying commercial and hope the airlines gets hurt enough to start fighting alongside us against government tyranny. In the meantime when I need to go somewhere, I’ll rent my own plane or drive at my leisure
Anyone who thinks that these horrific TSA procedures are ok, (and even including taking ones shoes off which is degrading and undignified), does not deserve to live in a free society anymore.
The world is laughing at us again, thank you so very much Ms. Napolitano. Why don’t you go talk to the security forces in Israel and see how they do it? They have a great flight safety record and they don’t subject their people to naked scanners or sexual harrassment. If you were really interested in security, you’d find out what works and do, but the interest here is in control and power. I’ll be driving wherever I want to go from now on.
These searches are unconstitutional. Planes can be brought down in other ways so we are not better protected. It sure is an easy way to prevent our mobility.
My wife and I flew to Chicago last July for family get together, my 70 year old white haired spouse was scanned , that was it for us after our return flight we vowed not to fly again.
As retired senior naval officer (aviator) and licensd FAA rated pilot holding an air transport rating with more than 14000 hours of flight experience, and having been cleared for a top secret clearance by US authorities, I no longer use our domestic air carriers. The last time I used a commercial carrier, I was fondled by a pervert TSA person, and my reaction to that action nearly landed me in jail. Until some sanity is restored to the system, I suspect the public will reject the TSA polocy at an ever increasing rate.
Do you people have terminal memory loss? The only problem I have with these scans is that they should not be random. Everyone should undergo them – and opt out?? I don’t think so. Opt all the way out of the airport I say.
My wife already did the arithmetic. Our family of four can rent an SUV and drive home for Christmas CHEAPER than flying. Overall trip time goes from 8 hours to 12 hours, no big deal when you consider the 8 hour trip time is NEVER 8 hours, there’s to and from the airports PLUS delays. So long airlines, See-Ya.
This is a perfect time for hotels and AAA to get into a great advertising campaign about the beauty of American roadways. Instead of a 1h 45min flight to Las Vegas, we drove last week…. and yes, 10 hours of driving may seem amazingly painful for some, we turned it into a mini vacation along the way and had the best time ever. Stopped by the Hoover dam and other places to see the great beauty of this country. If everyone skipped just 25% of their flights and took the road, the airlines would definitely notice and lobby for changes. How about a giant ultrasound system? No radiation there!
This kind of abusive overreach and violation of the 4th Amendment was completely predictable by the very act of FEDERALIZING Airport Security and creating a new agency, full of FEDERAL EMPLOYEE security guards! If we simply kept private security, and issued security guidelines comparable to those of El Al… we’d be FAR better off!
Meantime, I have no plans to fly as long as TSA is in charge of security! If I can’t get there in 10 hrs of driving, I probably won’t be visiting that destination!
My children and I were going to accompany my husband on a business trip shortly after the New Year, but we have decided in light of this abuse of power, we will not go. Moreover, I refuse to fly or to subject my children to these procedures. On another note, our insurance premiums are going up substantially next year even as my husband received virtually no pay raise. Of course, at this point, I’m just extremely grateful he has a job. This government under Obama has done NOTHING to make life better but in fact, has done EVERYTHING to interfere and make it worse! I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he took office, but now I absolutely cannot stand him or his arrogant administration.
Before Deciding I would like to see Goofy Napolitano go through the Body Scan 100 times then have her checked for radiation and or Derangemnt syndrome….
It is what you get when an idiot is in charge. Elect Obama, get Napolitano as a hidden prize inside the box!
SCAN THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!
Why don’t they take their fancy naked scanner equipment and surley TSA perverts, go down to our Southern border, and apply these security measures there?
Why not? They keep telling us thay can’t secure the border. If they can grope, fondle and screen 49 million American citizens each month, CERTAINLY THEY CAN DO THE SAME FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!
There are a damn site fewer than 49 million illegals and the resulting safety and lives saved from stopping drugs, weapons, disease, murders, rapists, and gangsters would be far greater removing shoes and taking grandma’s tweezers at airports!
THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN SAFETY, THEY ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN COWING AMERICA!
Its not “liberals” or “conservatives”, democrats or republicans that are causing this country to devolve into dictatorship. Its “elitists” and they come in all denominations. They “know” whats “best” for you. They are training you and your children to “obey”. Pavlovs dogs is what they want. Live in fear they say…only Big Brother can protect you. Pitiful.
I will not allow myself to be sexually assaulted or imaged by the perverts at the TSA or DHS. I will walk, drive or take a train rather than be subjected to this illegal, unconstitutional invasion of my privacy.
well I prefer Amtrak over flying anyways. Call me nostalgic, but it’s a lot more gentile then flying. I’ll fly when absolutely required. It’s not just the security measures, but everything about flying. It’s not fun or comfortable. Dollar for dollar the train, inmho, is a better way to go.
I’m an Army wife living in the Republic of Korea (South Korea). We’ve been here for 2 years.
Korea is squared away and they don’t do this invasive, unacceptable crap. You go through the proper searches but you will NOT be screened naked or fondled.
And their air service on Korean Air is so much better than American airlines. The good old USA which I love very much could learn a thing or two about service from Korea.
Generals searches in airport security but search the folks who look suspicious closer. Its’ that simple.
In response to the comment about flying and how it’s not an advantage in time anymore, I can’t agree more strongly. These days you have to get to the airport two hours early, get through the rediculous line at the ticket counter to make sure you have everything and check in your bags, then report to the line for your daily groping and fondling from your friendly TSA perve, then wait at the gate while your flight is delayed because the groping on the other end of the line took longer than expected. Meanwhile it cost you an arm and a leg to get something to eat while you are waiting for your delayed flight and you can’t find a comfortable chair in the whole terminal. Last year, I dropped my sister off in upstate New York for her flight back to orlando while our family drove back to Atlanta. We arrived in Atlanta at the same time my sister arrived home in Orlando. It doesn’t pay to fly anymore, it’s not worth the hassle and it’s not any faster these days.
Georgia law (U.C.G.A. 16-6-22.1) follows. There is, to the best of my knowledge, any exemption for TSA (or anyone else). I suspect that other states have similar statutes and I believe that the states should prosecute TSA agents for violations. This would set the stage for some clarity on whether and to what extent the Feds can violate state protection of individual citizens.
§ 16-6-22.1. Sexual battery
(a) For the purposes of this Code section, the term “intimate parts” means the primary genital area, anus, groin, inner thighs, or buttocks of a male or female and the breasts of a female.
(b) A person commits the offense of sexual battery when he or she intentionally makes physical contact with the intimate parts of the body of another person without the consent of that person.
(c) Except as otherwise provided in this Code section, a person convicted of the offense of sexual battery shall be punished as for a misdemeanor of a high and aggravated nature.
(d) A person convicted of the offense of sexual battery against any child under the age of 16 years shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than one nor more than five years.
(e) Upon a second or subsequent conviction under subsection (b) of this Code section, a person shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be imprisoned for not less than one nor more than five years and, in addition, shall be subject to the sentencing and punishment provisions of Code Section 17-10-6.2.
I submitted to the backscatter on a business trip last month. It was humiliating, and I wish I hadn’t done it. I will NEVER do it again.
I went out of town again two weeks ago. It was a seven-hour drive or 1.5 hour flight, and I chose to drive. I’ve instructed my staff that any and all meetings more than eight hours away will be done by videoconference from now on.
With TSA running effectively Burning the contitution and trampling the Bill Of Rights, we have become Nazi Germany (if you have nothing to hide, then why do you resist the government), or the Soviet Union (only people who are enemies of the state would oppose or question the government)… or maybe a the worst of both.
The TSA is a completely un-necessary government agency (started by George W. Bush out of fear, and funded by liberal Democrats in Congress who love expensive but useless new government agencies and projects).
TSA has not caught one terrorist in over 8 years (they jsut make up news stories from time to time claiming that they stopped some un-named person who was thinking about some terrorist action from flying).
The purpose of all the TSA screenings, pat-downs, etc., is to establish that the United States has decisively LOST the “War On Terror” — the phantom menace of terrorism has caused the U.S.A. to abandon liberty and trade it for some imaginary sense of security — and we have ended up with neither (as Benjamin Franklin, Thomas jeffereson, Thomas Paine, etc. warned we would).
This is just the beginning. Govt, under liberals who believe the Constitution is an “evolving” document, will continue to erode away at our rights. This in the name of going after people who hate our way of life. This is getting close to needing to place the liberals in our Govt on the terrorist watch list.
Being subjected to radiation and/or invasive body searches will not keep us safe. We need to put a stop to this now. Travel by train is much more pleasant, with more room anyway, and is cheaper. If you must fly, always elect to opt out of the scanners. TSA is trying to force people to go through the scanners by making the alternative as unpleasant as possible. How do they think sexual abuse survivors will react to these procedures?
I am writing to all the airlines I fly with and informing them that I will not be using them as long as these measures are in place. The airline business is already in financial trouble. If they see they are losing more business because of this, they will put pressure on the TSA and the government to drop these ridiculous measures. This is all just theater. It does nothing to keep us safe.
May I suggest a fitting reply to TSA… please go file pedophile charges against TSA in a court of law.
I’m selling my place in Florida at a loss(of course). The wife and I thought we could spend the winters there in a thirty year old trailer, as a respite from Maine winters.
How wrong we where. Taxes here are murder, the cost of air travel and the hassle of TSA,and the cost of gas for the
drive back and forth make it unsupportable. I do not think our case is unique. I’ll bet there are many more like us.
We will never fly commercial airlines again in this life.
I said yes t o the poll, but my position is not quite so specific. It’s not just the TSA that turns me off to flying. Each new charge, delay, inconvenience or indignity adds to the distance I am willing to drive instead flying. Unfortunately, there is a distance beyond which there is no reasonable alternative.
As a member of the flying industry, let me say first that the screenings are largely a show put on to allay the fears of the flying public. At times, 40% of weapons they are supposed to stop, aren’t. The doses of radiation for the frequent flyer ARE cumulatively, dangerous. And just who are we supposed to be finding? American citizens? We would certainly be less of a threat to ourselves if OUR BORDERS WERE SECURE so terrorists couldn’t enter so freely and then move about the country. The body scanners and the advanced pat downs are embarrassing and intrusive. Passengers are treated as the enemy. I for one, don’t feel any more secure, after being subjected to the TSA screenings. I can’t stop flying but this isn’t the way to successfully protect America. When the time comes for terrorists to strike next, none of these methods currently employed, will have the slightest affect in stopping them.
Oh, I guess those expensive puffer/sniffer booths at the airports proved to be not too effective, eh? Just a lot of taxpayer money.
Sure looks like the bastards have won, doesn’t it?
There is a very simply solution to this nonsense. Just have EVERY one of us simply refuse to comply with it. That would stop it immediately. They cannot arrest everyone!
I will submit to pat downs or xray screening when The President, every member of Congress, the Supreme Court and all others who fly in this country are required to each time they fly as well. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!
I’m for security – to a point!!! After a recent pat down, it was very close to a sexual assualt. What will it take to – bringing sexual assualt charges against the individual TSA officer, airport officials and airlines execs??? I’m not going to fly for a long time!!!!! YOu airlines, just lost my business as well as the other 10 people I’ll talk with.
It’s time we as americans start sending a message to our representatives and to the airlines industry. Get this changed – in the meantime, we will be spending our dollars elsewhere!!
I have written to President Obama, the TSA, as well as several domestic airlines who will certainly be losing business as myself and any other sane person will choose alternate means of travel whenever possible as a result of this COMPLETE violation of our constitutional right to not be sexually assaulted and/or viewed naked. Please join me in raising hell to any and all people that make the policies and those airlines that will be losing a ton of business! To Freddi, who thinks the only problem is that people can opt out, please move to China where you can live under a microscope and give up all freedoms to the government. Do your research and see that none of the enhanced security measures have done anything to make you safer. Those who would give up Essential Liberty
to purchase a little Temporary Safety,
deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. Ben Franklin
Your poll offers bogus choices. No, I am not less likely to fly because of stepped-up security procedures; however, it’s not because I think they are “necessary to ensure terror plots are thwarted.”
Why can’t you suffice with “yes,” “no” and “undecided” without characterizing those responses.
I had plans to visit friends in both PA & NC before the holidays. Changed my mind and will travel after January IF I don’t think security will be a violation of my person. Agree we need strong security but lets look at what El Al does and try these things.
Well, I’m not a big fan of the security scanners, but I suppose the pat down will have to do. I just wish they had a booth or curtain to do the search, that would make it less or a hot topic, for me at least.
I have already ceased flying into or out of the US. I travel by motor vehicle when close enough to my destination or by train when not. Otherwise I simply do business electronically rather than in person. My vacations are taken closer to home, no more flights to the sun during winter. Now I embrace the seasons and go to the snow close by in winter and to the seashore also close by in summer.
I sent this to US Airways today…no chance they will do the right thing, but here’s hoping.
Dear US Airways – I booked this flight from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) as, at the time of booking, Dulles was the only local airport that did not have the cancer causing body scanner technology used for security screenings. I have now learned that Dulles has implemented this technology in the past few weeks, which I understand may be opted out of, and an alternative method of literal groping of the groin area, used in lieu of the scanner. I have 3 small children (under 5 years old) travelling with me, whom I will not allow to be irradiated by these machines or fondled by TSA. As a parent, I teach my children about sexual harassment and improper touching, and this method of search undermines my ability to guard my children from the present and future dangers. What’s more, how do I tell my children that its OK to be groped by a person in uniform? As a result, I am going to cancel my flight with US Airways, and given the circumstances, DEMAND MY FARE BE REFUNDED IN ITS ENTIRETY. I am in contact with various media outlets and maintaining an online blog regarding my experience thus far with US Airways (I called your customer service today, spoke with Myra, and was told that I could not speak to anyone further regarding this issue, and that my only communication with US Airways regarding this policy and potential refund would have to be through this online complaint portal). I expect US Airways to respond favorably given the public outcry regarding these scanners and the groping methods used by TSA. Should US Airways refuse this request, I will also pursue legal action, as the above methods of scanning and groping were not in place at the time of booking. I will NEVER fly US Airways again, nor any carrier for that matter, until this issue is resolved. It is also worth nothing that Johns Hopkins University has come out with data suggesting that these machines are indeed cancer causing, and many, many victims rights organizations have come out against the new pat down procedures. And, US Airways’ own pilots association has now urged their pilots to refuse the scanner. Please respond to this request, again, I will be widely distributing via any and all available media, my experience and your response as a company. From a business perspective, I would hope that US Airways finds it possible to do the right thing. Sincerely – one of your many anti-irradiation, anti-molestation customers – KK from VA
I couldn’t care less if someone wants to pat me down for hidden weapons.
I’m perhaps a little less keen on being X-rayed, but I can live with that too.
However I refuse to be treated like a criminal by a cretin with an attitude, who thinks that wearing a mobile-phone earpiece improves his pitiful IQ.
I am uncomfortable just driving by an airport in the USA, and I haven’t entered one since shortly after 9/11. I’m sure that there is a difference between a US airport and a Nazi concentration camp, but I haven’t been able to figure out what it s yet.
I stopped flying 7 years ago when screening was less than this most recent craziness.
Do *not* fly commercial airlines unless in-person presence is essential *and* quickly, and let it be known *why* you are doing so. Don’t just grumble about the scanners and probers while continuing to fly when you do *not* absolutely have to do so. And when taking a trip by air *is* necessary, do not submit meekly to scanning and/or probing. Strongly consider making your objection to the entire “security theater” process verbally known to all within earshot. Accept the least objectionable (to you) method available, but make it loudly clear that it is *only* because you *must* be at your destination in a short period of time – otherwise you’d drive, walk, sail, swim, etc.
It seems incredible to me that not ALL persons are undergoing these searches. NO ONE should be exempt for any reason. What is good for one is good for all. Faces must also be shown completely during the scan and prior to boarding at security check in with a picture ID.
You cannot have any safety, if any are exempted from the search.
Having new knees, when traveling, I (a 65 year old female), always have to go through extra screening. When flying out of Denver recently, I was told I would be patted down. I have never been so shocked and humiliated…..the woman hit my vagina hard twice and then felt my breasts. I was late for my plane and in such shock, I did not say anything. This is an outrage. It is going way too far to have a gov. agency in the name of “homeland security” feel my private parts.
I am not a protester, but will become one if this continues. The next time I went through an airport the same thing was told me…..I told them they could not touch me in my private parts. The poor woman was compassionate and told me they had too or would be fired. She said “they told us to go up hard in the private parts….the demonstrator was very hard on the volunteers.” She then asked me if I had any sore places and I said “yes, my vagina”. She did not touch me. There is NO reason to touch a private part …..if I were going to hide something…it would be inside and what about the rectum???? I am very outraged as you can tell. Why can’t we use the wand?

Sick, depraved and perverted.
U.S. government message to Americans and visiting tourists:
We own your bodies; and as the owners of your bodies, we have the right to expose your naked bodies; give you massive amounts of radiation, give you cancers and destroy your health. If you refuse our humiliating, degrading, health destroying body scanners, we will sexually assault you.
This has NOTHING to do with security. It’s all about power and control and destroying our health, basic human rights and our freedom. Ruling elites know the body scanners are useless:
“Full-body scanners are waste of money, Israeli expert says
A leading Israeli airport security expert says the Canadian government has wasted millions of dollars to install “useless” imaging machines at airports across the country.
“I don’t know why everybody is running to buy these expensive and useless machines. I can overcome the body scanners with enough explosives to bring down a Boeing 747,” Rafi Sela told parliamentarians probing the state of aviation safety in Canada.”

sorry to the airlines. TSA and Fatherland WIN! This final act of abuse to the American public will keep me off of commercial flights. Clowns.
Obama has shutdown oil drilling, he is spending this country into debt, and now he wants to kill air travel. Do you see a pattern? He is right on plan!
Do any of the decision-makers on security own any stock at full-body scan manufacturers or any other manufacturer of security equipment?
We have stopped flying when all of this intrusive security went into place after 9/11. The cost, the intrusion, for the benefit – two people have been caught on the plane making it through the security measures – leads me to believe that all of these measures are way too costly for the benefit we have received. With these new policies, I will never fly – unless I am forced to for business or a family emergency – never!
Any one who says yes is kidding themselves. We are a nation of lazy forgetful people. You will all fly again. Look, we just had 8 years of horrible republican policy that led to a HUGE oil spill, taxes being cut ONLY for the rich, a depression, two wars and let’s not leave out 9/11 and people STILL voted for republicans with no plan for the future. If you forgot about all of that so quickly, this scanner thingy should be over in a few days.
Of course TSA does not care that we object due to moral and religious ground. NAZIs never cared. This is more than FASCISM it is Nazism/Satanic.
Well I have news for them GOD is watching and we are already starting to pray. Let me remind everybody several months ago there were 33 miners in a Chilean mine 700 meters (not feet but meters) a rescue like that was unique never done before. Well a lot of people in Chile and around the world started to pray and they came out all alive. The head of the operations André Sougarret was interviewed after the rescue and he did mentioned how the drilling equipment took and unexplainable turn that made it hit the mine tunnel right in the middle.
Evil forces always start making their move around special dates like Thanksgivings and Christmas. They are so predictable. They usually target old and disable people, women and children. I saw in the internet people in wheelchair getting pad-downed, I saw in the internet a lady with a prosthetic leg asking her to remove her leg. The scan machines are not suitable for disable people, they do not meet the standard (one more reason to make them illegal, I think they target disable people because they probably have a special place in havens and they are envious of them.
The Chilean rescuers did not just pray they took action and work day and night until they got them all out, with a little help redirecting the drill; we need to do the same. We are lucky, my wife has a titanium hip she will be a perfect target and we will not travel to see our daughter and grandson, but they decided to drive down and stay with us for a week. We are lucky.
But if you read this comment and you see an old couple that will be lonely during thanksgivings invite them over that day, you can always add some extra plates at the family table.
God Bless us all during this attack to our values.
Statistics show an alarming number of women have been victims of abuse or assault. TSA does not have the right to touch anyone this way. But, I am especially concerned about TSA taking naked pictures of/groping survivors of sexual violence and children. What kind of message does it send to kids if a parent stands by while they are assaulted? Or when a parent intervenes and ends up in airport jail? How does a sexual violence survivor enjoy a vacation after being re-traumatized during a government endorsed assault. Any TSA agent who touches a passenger’s junk should be put on the sex offenders registry.
Wow people are using this poll as proof that people are against scanners and the TSA. All this poll does is let the people who are opposed to it say that this is proof of their case (They post it on sites and tell people to vote yes). And depending on the polling method its easy to setup a bot to auto poll a result you want. What happened to unbiased journalism?
Do a Real Poll not some web poll, there is nothing scientific and reliable about this poll.
I saw the earlier TSA poll that suggested 4/5 of people were okay with the new scanners and was surprised by those results. This poll fits my expectations a bit better, but just to play devil’s advocate, even if 4/5 of people really were okay with the new screening measures, 20% of the traveling population is still a HUGE number. You can’t just dismiss 20% of the population’s preferences like it’s no big deal. I mean, how the airline executives would feel about a 20% decrease in revenue this thanksgiving? When people start to make a statement with their wallets, I’m pretty sure the TSA will be forced to listen.
My husband and I are taking the auto train to Florida next week. It will cost us a total of $300 more, and take about 14 hours longer, over going by air and renting a car, but we feel it’s worth it to avoid these invasive “security” measures.
After the first pat down I got at OAK on September 9th, I became annoyed, and the other people in line were all visibly affected, from upset to livid. I sent an email to TSA and my Representative and Senators, but never received any replies. I decided to limit my flying as much as possible, and have done so. I am supposed to fly twice a month for business. In addition I generally fly 3-4 times per year for vacations. From Sep 9 to yearend, I will have skipped six trips that I otherwise would have taken. Ironically, on the two trips (four flights) I did have to take, the scanners were not being used, and no one was being patted down! Go figure….
To answer Montpassat’s question Do any politicians have a financial interest in the installation of Scamming machines at Scareports the answer is……wait for it…..Yes….
Heir Chertoff aka Commandant of Security Uberland under the second Shrub administration. Chertoff is one of the owners of company that is making the X-ray scammers and selling them to scareports and making millions.
I’m not flying anymore in protest. Let your spending habits reflect your demand for freedom and protection of American’s IV Amendment Rights against illegal search and seizure.
Speak Up, Stand Up, Opt Out.
Cost of the scanner program: $6,000,000,000 over 10 years
Claimed risk of getting a cancer from X-ray scanners: 1 : 30,000,000 scans
Annual air travelers: 600 million
Ratio of X-ray scanners: half
Number of people TSA will likely give cancer: 10/year
Number of terrorists caught by TSA: 0
Getting groped by a federal agent every time you fly: priceless
Our government wants U.S. to accept them as “big brother”. Their last big assault was after 911. This is a conditioning process. The Truth is “We the People” must completely reverse this mentality and let Our “public servants” learn to accept U.S. as “big brother” over them.
We must condition them – Starting NOW!
They want to see how much “We the People” will allow them to dis-respect U.S. Its all about Power and Control! Will Our government control U.S. or will “We the People” now use Our rightful Constitutional Authority to stand firm and tell them “HOW IT IS”?
What happens now will decide many issues in the future. Enough is Enough!
This issue must be the “line in the sand”. Our Personal Freedom and Personal Liberty must Not be compromised. In fact, “We the People” must move that line way back.

I value ALL my God-given Freedoms and Liberties, Our Great Constitution and Our most very important National Sovereignty. I am more than happy to take more risks in life to preserve my maximum share of Freedoms and Liberty.

T.S.A obviously an acronym for Terrorist Score Again. Class lets open our History books to the Chapter where they tell us the majority of the German people opposed the Turd reich but the minority who submissively complied gave the Furor the idea that the majority could be controlled by compelling the minority to cower in fear. First they intimidated the old and infirm. Then stepped it up once encouraged by the complacency of the younger adults. When they come for you no one will be left to oppose them and you’ll wonder how it happened. Totally Stupid Americans you want to blame someone look in the mirror. Damn it just when everything was going so good!
I think that while people are protesting TSA “patdowns” and full-body x-ray scanners they should be protesting the systematic rifling of passengers’ luggage that is being engaged in by TSA employees. While I agree that luggage inspection is necessary, the employee searching the luggage should be 100% identifiable and linkable to passenger complaints. The agencies hand-inspecting luggage should also be liable for loss or damage. Even when items are not simply stolen from the luggage, the re-closure of luggage is often careless, which can itself lead to loss or damage to the contents or to the bags themselves. The need for security cannot be used as an excuse for damage, harassment or assault (sexual or otherwise). The public is now funally catching on the the fact that “security” is a multi-billion dollar business, in which the government officials mandating the procedures have a stake. We must kill off this crime and corruption; time for investigations and arrests.
I just returned from one of my twice annual visits to the corporate office in Boston. Instead of flying (Cincinnati to Boston) I got my boss to agree to one extra night in the hotel and them paying for my gas & tolls) so I took the extra time and drove (1,700 miles round trip). No more flying for me. I simply refuse to be treated as a criminal in my own country.
I live in Europe, and now I wish I had gone to the US before 9/11, I have always wanted to see NY. Except back then I couldn’t afford to, now I can but there is no way I’ll pass trough an airport in the US. The crazyness began with fingerprinting and extended background checks, then came stories of tourists being mistreated and humiliated in US airports. These days your socalled security seems to have degenerated into humiliation for the sake of humiliation. Abolish the TSA and go back to letting the airport handle security, maybe then I’ll come.
This is a disgrace to human dignity. I for one, refuse to be herded and prodded like cattle. I am Canadian. I don’t travel to the US. End.
I am a homophobic male and I respectfully request a youngish female attendant for my patdown. I will take my viagra before getting in line. But if she squeezes too hard…it might detonate.
You are so right, NotScientific, very few people really object to the new procedures. I’ll bet that people get through the screening and run back to get in the line again just like a ride at Disneyland. Jeez, does anybody like them who isn’t somehow making money off the deal?
The 4th Amendment states “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized”. This to me means that unless you are a suspect in a criminal investigation, it is unlawful for your person to be searched. TSA employees, as employees of the US government, are required to take an oath…the same oath taken by the military, to “…preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”. Consequently, these persons are, either knowingly or unknowlingly, breaking that oath every time they search a person as a part of airport screening. Unless the TSA comes out and states that all travelers are suspects in an ongoing criminal investigation regarding domestic terrorism, they must cease and desist. Congress needs to act.
We see what happens but likely the TSA will get away with its unlawful searches. Expect for that one guy in LA, who else had the guts to walk away without being search? Bet that dude isn’t getting a refund on plane ticket either.
The government can not protect you. They’re supposed to protect Constitutional rights which LIMIT WHAT GOVERNMENT can do, not the people. We have ALL the rights, not what they’ve been telling us over and over.
It was true then, and it’s even truer now…
“Those who would give up Essential Liberty
to purchase a little Temporary Safety,
deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”
Ben Frankilin
Wow, in less than 10 years the US went from “911 – Never Forget” to “Don’t touch my junk!”
Ummmm…errr…it appears you’ve forgotten…
Well, on some trips. I can drive a few hundred miles and in some cases take a train. But face it, we have to fly sometimes, and that is why I want the TSA gone. They add nothing to my safety, they cost money and are a real annoyance.
WHY DO WE PUT UP WITH THIS AND ALL THE OTHER GARBAGE FROM OUR GOVERNMENT? THIS IS OUR COUNTRY AND WE NEED TO TAKE IT BACK. VOTE FOR POLITICIAN’S THAT WILL WORK FOR THE PEOPLE. GET OBAMA AND ANY OTHERS LIKE HIM OUT OF OFFICE. STUDY WHO YOU ARE VOTING FOR.

Unless there is absolutely no other way, I refuse to fly. It is that simple. Since 9/11 I can count the number of times I’ve flown on one hand – and I have hundreds of thousands of miles under my belt in aircraft. The ironic thing is that all these rules and crap do nothing to enhance my safety. Every credible danger to an aircraft has made it through security – which is always ready to catch the last threat they missed, never anything new. The reality is that 9/11 changed the dynamic. Now, no terrorist will be able to pull anything off, the passengers will stop them rather than being passive – as they did with the underwear bomber. Dispense with the TSA. Dispense with all the intrusion. It is inane and meaningless.
How about offering some real choices in the poll:
- Yes, it is likely that I will fly less as a result of the security measures.
- Yes, I will fly less, but for other reasons.
- No, I will continue to fly the same amount. The security measures are justified.
- No, I will continue to fly the same amount, despite the fact that the security measures are unjustified.
- I do not fly, and never have.
- Undecided.
In most of the world, freedom is free. In America, freedom ain’t free.
In March 2011 I drove ~1,800 miles for work to avoid the TSA body scanners and intrusive patdowns.
This cost me Time and Money. I prefer to fly. It is cheaper, faster, and safer, but I prefer even more to not be molested and not have a digital image of my body saved or seen.
I plan to avoid flying until the body scanners are not used and the intrusive patdowns are eliminated.
To be legal, the TSA must have a warrant or probable cause and arrest the suspect before a patdown. Currently the TSA is operating illegally.
It is clear the TSA efforts are not about making the USA safer. Janet Napolitano said the US-Mexico border is secure, which it is no.
I can only pray for God’s help and for good elected officials who will correct the problems and wrong doings in the TSA. Protect The People from the TSA.
