“Where the bloody hell are you?”

This quote is from a $133 million advertising campaign Australia is launching, to see whether swearing at prospective tourists will make them want to come to your country. Sounds a little risky.

Ah, how cute!

Well, I think nobody here much considers bloody a swear word but people like me who have actually visited/lived in Common Wealth Countries. Australians really should quit eating skippy; eating kangaroo meat is more offensive than swearing. Tee-hee.

I still don’t get the whole offensive debate. Why is a kangaroo any more or less than a cow, why is it ok to eat one and not another… and they sure as hell don’t damage the environment as much as hard hoofed animals.

That’s stupid.

I proudly sang ‘Where The Bloody Hell Are You?’ for the American Launch of the Campaign in Union Square, San Francisco. Rock on! You have to get people’s attention! It’s advertising, not a polite conversation with tea and scones!

I think the ad is great! I can’t believe it has been banned in the UK beacuse of the word bloody. Have you seen the website? http://www.wherethebloodyhellareyou.com

I am actually Australian and I have never heard of anybody eating a Kangaroo haha, just another steriotype.. everybody here is really offended at them making us sound like a pack of idiots, the only time I even hear somebody say “G’Day” is on the tv… especially American tv shows.. the most Australian food I can think of is Bacon and Eggs… the same food Americans have in every dinner..

Well, i’m an aussie and i think that if they start counting bloody as a swear word everyone in australia is in BIG trouble. ;) I can’t believe the Poms banned it. Bloody is English word it comes from England besides any country that has 2 say Baa Baa Rainbow sheep definitely has issues. The ad is great it is fun, refreashing and showcases australia just the way it is.

Does this mean we now cant go to a butcher or restaurant and request a bloody steak. Lets lighten up and enjoy the Poms having their obligatory winge.
Cheers

Another parochial outburst! The only people excited by this are the stereotypes persistent on divorcing themselves from the anglo saxon past. Frankly, nobody else gives much a shit.

the poms are f*cked in the head for having paying a royal family to do nothing. bloody is used every day in australia by everyone. and kangaroo meat is much healthier for you than the usual crap you buy from the shops and is available to buy as well. so get that one up yours you whinging poms. from a proud republican of australia

Hi ppl,

firstly Dutchess… most Aussies do not eat Kangaroo I mean I am guessing u came here as a tourist or something and u stayed somewhere like Ayers Rock or Cairns or somewhere tourist based and you were either given or sold kangaroo meat. Yes I have worked at Ayers Rock and put Kangaroo on skewers for guests to buy but most real Aussies do not eat it… we only really eat it once or twice so we can tell the tourists what it tastes like. most of us don’t like eating Kangaroos because they r on our coat of arms…. and are cool native animals.

I am glad if you like the bloody ad people as the word bloody is only used in a cheeky sense and I think the ad shows the world some of the best aspects of Australia. I hope that you all choose to come to Australia for holiday as a result of the ad too.

I am enjoying the feeling of being a super-power…my skippyroo remark provide discussion folder. Well I have seen with my own eyes kanga thrown into my own shopping basket…disgusting…in YOUR CAPTIAL CITY. It was a sight I still can not get the image out of my mind..it burns…make it go away…of grey-greenish colored skippy-steak. Everyone I talked to there acted like I had 2 heads that I even asked if they ate kanga. Many of you DO EAT IT. Quit the act … ‘fess up!

Hey im a kiwi living in ocker land and im proud to say skippys are cool, no worries mate and where the bloody hell are you is a typical ocker.
I must say lara Bingle is simply stunning and she can turn my chops and snags any day.

Compared to the 100% pure NZ television ad, Australia comes off looking sterotypical and not that appealing. Being Australian’s ourselves, we believe that this ad does not represent Australia nor us Australians very well (this kangaroo discussion proving our point) and infact degrades our reputation as Australians. The use of the word ‘bloody’ is not as much offending in social conversations, but totally inappropriate for international commercial uses.

Australia is known for its large multicultural diversity , in fact we’re celebrating that today in school =) The use of the slang ‘bloody’ is over exaggerated as part of the Australian culture. Speaking in general, we Australians do not use the word ‘bloody’ in our social conversations. However, we still consider ourselves very much a part of the Australian culture.

Thanks to Kim for the inspiration of our undercover name =]
