Shopping for a 103-inch, $70,000 Plasma TV?

Mister Gates, …..your TV is ready.

Panasonic says it expects to ship about 5,000 of its 103-inch Plasma TVs, the cleverly-named TH-103PZ600U, billed as the largest set made to actually sell to humans – not just for the bragging rights of its designers. What better way to watch your Blu Ray DVDs (but that’s another story).

Panasonic's 103-inch plasma TVFor a cool $70,000, you too can have the set in your home — your very very large home – for the holidays.

“It is big. (But) Its not too (big) if I’m living in a 25,000 square foot home, like almost 1 percent of the American population does” said Panasonics Display Group Vice President Andrew Nelkin.

He added that there has already been demand for the set since it debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, ranging from “industrialists to sports figures.”

“We have been able to compile a list of people interested in this product that’s like a who’s who of consumers, and we started to see that there really is a market for this,” he added. “We have customers anxiously awaiting this product.”

Of course, they will have to wait. At almost 90 inches wide and 50 inches high, the sets are made of one plate of glass, are shipped directly from the manufacturer in Japan and need special installers to hang it on your very, very large wall.

“Right now its almost bigger than life itself: you show a bowl of fruit, the fruit looks huge, like a basketball,” said Nelkin.

Here is Engadet’s take on the 103-inch Plasma.
