“Sportsmanship” hits a new low?

This one is pathetic. A region in Russia is investigating a report that hunt organizers, eager to give the King of Spain better odds of killing a bear, provided a tame one that was drunk on vodka.

It seems an official has accused the organizers of plying a captive bear named Mitrofan with vodka-drenched honey and then forcing him from a cage to be shot by Spain’s King Juan Carlos I.

According to our story, such tactics are not unheard of. Former Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev had trouble with his aim in his later years, and some of the animals he liked to stalk were either tied to trees or plied with alcohol. What a sport. Here’s the story:
