Little guy gets paid-Google

Good news, video bloggers: Google plans to help you get paid, according to  Beet.tv’s interview with Hunter Walk, a Google product manager.

Just in time, too.

New York Post reports that some YouTube contributors without backing from big media giants are grumbling about not getting paid, especially after the Internet’s top video site agreed to a $1.65 billion buyout by Google.

Walk does not speak directly about YouTube, addressing only Google’s own Google Video offering.

Walk speaks to Beet.tv’s Andy Plesser: “Anyone who watches video online knows about the Diet Coke and Mentos phenomenon. Part of our goal at Google Video is to provide monetization to content providers of all size. Weve previously worked with a lot of major media companies to do that. But it makes total sense to extend that down to user created content.”

During a speech to Stanford business school students Saturday, Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said he expected soon to finalize the company’s deal to acquire online video-sharing sensation YouTube Inc. for $1.65 billion. “We hope to get the YouTube acquisition completed in the next week or two,” he said.

Here’s a Reuters interview with Schmidt.
