Time Warner Chief Operating Officer Jeff Bewkes had the luncheon crowd at the UBS media summit in New York in stitches on Tuesday when he tried to sidestep a question about the company’s film studio flops of 2006.
“If I say anything against any one of our movies, I end up with a director calling me to say, How could you say that about my movie?”
Apparently he couldn’t resist. ”Youve gotta ask yourself, Would you have made the “Poseidon Adventure” again?’” he said.
Warner Bros.’s “Poseidon“, a remake of the 1972 big-ship-carrying-rich-partygoers-sinks movie starring Shelley Winters and Gene Hackman, will go down as one of the studio’s biggest theatrical flops.
But, “We’re having a great finish to the year in theatrical,” Bewkes added, highlighting strong box office performance of “Happy Feet” and acclaim for the upcoming “Blood Diamond,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, the star of the other big-boat-sinks movie.
