Sharp’s record-sized 108-inch LCD was the topic of choice for many bloggers Tuesday. Engadget compared it to Samsung’s elder statesman 102-inch plasma unit and found the latter wanting, as far as televisions longer than your living room walls go.
Away from the LCD vs. plasma battle, gizmag said the really important news from Sharp is that some of the sets to be released by the end of 2007 will have refresh rates double the current standard at 120Hz. LG is showing a 102-inch LCD this year, but Kotaku called it “yawn-inducing” compared to Sharp’s television, though Gizomodo said that the display quality on that unit isn’t perfect.
MediaFile commenters made some helpful suggestions about what to do with a 100-inch television, but you could also wait for Sony’s prototype 27-inch LCD with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Engadget liked that one too.
