Disintermediation? What disintermediation?

Asked how Comcast, a company which provides TV to more than 24 million U.S. homes, can avoid being digital media road kill as viewers flock online for entertainment, Comcast chief Brian Roberts said his companys bread is buttered on both sides.

Roberts thanked online video viewing for contributing to the tremendous growth in subscriptions to its broadband service, which added another 488, 000 customers in the fourth quarter.

I dont think theres any coincidence that we had our strongest year in high speed Internet and the growth of video online, Roberts told Wall Street analysts.

I think I saw a statistic that four percent of all the bits going across high speed Internet lines at Comcast is (from) YouTube. We dont view that as a bad thing, we view that as a great thing.

Meanwhile, Comcast continues to build up its own online video offerings through its broadband portal Comcast.net, user-generated video site Ziddio.com and more to come from its Comcast Interactive Media unit.
