Note to New NBCU Chief: Play to Your Audience

Click on picture to view CNBC.com videoBob Wright chose to appear on CNBC for his first interview after the announcement that he had stepped down as chief executive of NBC Universal, a nice scoop for one of his company’s most profitable divisions.
 
Wright went a step further when asked during the broadcast to name his greatest achievement during more than two decades at the top of NBC Universal.

“Forming CNBC,” he answered.

Here’s what giving Jim “Mad Money” Cramer an outlet for his outbursts beat out:

  • Created NBCU in deal with Vivendi Universal, giving GE a seat at the big media conglomerate table
  • Oversaw premiers of “Seinfeld,” “Friends” and “ER” among other blockbusters
  • Acquired Telemundo, the nation’s second-largest Spanish-language media company
  • Acquired Bravo, a network that reached more than 80 million viewers across the nation
  • Took equity stakes in A&E Network and the History Channel
  • Created MSNBC, NBC’s joint venture with Microsoft
  • Expanded TV network to broadcast approximately 5,000 hours of TV programming each year, transmitting to more than 200 affiliated stations across the United States
  • Helped found the Global Leadership Group for BASCAP, the Business Alliance to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy
  • Served on the board of trustees of the American Film Institute and the Museum of Television and Radio
  • Served on the board of the Motion Picture and Television Fund Corporation, the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, and the New York Center for Autism
  • Co-founded Autism Speaks, a foundation dedicated to raising public awareness and research funds to find the answers to autism
