Your boss isn’t the only one who comes up with silly suggestions in meetings.
Yahoo Chairman and Chief Executive Terry Semel recently raised some staffers’ eyebrows with an idea during a meeting about the company’s new advertising system, Panama.
Semel relayed the story at a media conference sponsored by Ad Age.
“I said the dumbest thing about two weeks ago,” Semel told the audience. “I said in one of our search meetings ‘I think I’d like to rename Yahoo Search to Panama!’”
More: ”All of our marketing folks turned and said ‘What are you talking about?’ I said, ‘Well, Panama got so much press. People are now calling it Panama. They are referring to our search as Panama. Maybe we should just go with it. Maybe we should let that be the brand of our search!’”
What happened, Terry?
“I was voted down.”
