A place to nurse your drinks…

Here we go again. I remember when the theme of a restaurant was Tex-Mex, or northern Italian or whatever. But increasingly, theme means turning the place into something where no sane person would want to eat or drink - a morgue, a toilet, a pitch-black room…

The latest is a bar with a hospital motif. Right, like anybody has ever said, “We got great hospital take-out last night!” or, “We went through so much intravenous drip for our July 4th party!”

But at this new place, ”medicine” drips into your glass from a transparent ceiling-suspended vat as you chat up the “nurses.” There’s a wheelchair in the lobby, crutches hang from the walls, and the toilets? You get to them by following the “emergency room” signs. That should have them in stitches. Here’s the story:

Hospital food is not bland. It’s that hospital smell that makes it seem so. Yeah. That’s it.

The food’s great. The alcohol rubdown is kind of disturbing. Make sure you say NO to any menu item that includes the word, “rectal.”

Dammit Jim! I’m a doctor, not a bartender!

Just to spice things up, every 20 minutes you hear a flat-line beep and they call a code blue while disco lights swirl and the serving staff breaks into an intricately choreographed dance.
