This year’s inductee into the Bad Idea Hall of Fame is a county in South Korea that wanted to encourage its municipal employees to mingle with local citizens.
Of course, that by itself wasn’t a bad idea, but what they did was offer a “Drinking Culture Prize” to employees who went to local bars and restaurants to do the mingling. Not surprisingly, officials were flooded with complaints that the competition promoted drunkenness and encouraged binge drinking.
So, the “Drinking Culture Prize” is being discontinued, but not before it was given out for the first time this month, to three municipal workers. Local media reported that one of them had his driver’s license revoked - for drunk driving. Here’s the story.

Well at least they thought better of their first idea…it was going to be the “Shooting Up Award” for going out and doing heroin on the streets with the local hoodlums.
