When private equity started getting interested in technology the first deals were in sectors like software and services. Competition for deals has intensified, however, and the sectors being eyed have expanded into other sub-sectors like semiconductors and financial services-related companies. Monday’s buyout of telecoms equipment maker Avaya is another illustration of the encroachment of private equity interest across the tech sector. There’s still some way to go in this sub-sector, with deals between companies expected as well as private equity buyout activity. But it illustrates a maturing of the tech industry overall following the tech boom and bust, as well as private equity’s interest in pretty much every part of the tech sector as Reuters reports.
