Mobile-To-TV

Soon, the letters M-T-V could take on new meaning.

Another show born on mobile phones will make its migration to a Viacom-owned cable channel this weekend. ”Dances From Tha Hood” is a two-month-old show first seen on AT&T/Cingular, Verizon and Sprint cellphones that instructed clumsy viewers — like us — on how to dance like MC Hammer. (Not)

The migration follows on the heels of “Lil’ Bush“, an animated satire about the U.S. president that was first shown on Amp’d mobile phones last year. It was picked up by Viacom’s Comedy Central and made its way onto TV earlier this week.

“Dances From Tha Hood” the TV show will expand upon the cellphone show, which asked viewers to upload videos of their own dance moves as well as watch instructional how-to’s on hip-hop dance moves. The best submissions will be featured on the TV show, MTV said.

The show will debut on the MTV cable channel in the United States on June 17, 8 p.m. Just in time too, as we’ve been wondering here in the newsroom how to do the “Aunt Jackie“, the “Toe Wop” and the “Pop, Lock and Drop.”
