A Norfolk councillor has promised an “aggressive”
response if there is any repeat of the violence which saw a
100-strong mob attack a police station in Great Yarmouth at
the weekend.
Steve Bett, chairman of the Norfolk Police
Authority, blames a lack of respect for the behaviour.
Last week a police chief called for the age for buying alcohol to
be raised to counter drink-fuelled teenage agression.
But Conservative Leader David Cameron says the problem is
not alcohol but social breakdown.
He says the tax and benefits system drives parents apart and
wants financial changes that would encourage families to stay
together.
What do you think will tackle crime and social disorder?
“Aggressive” action, drink bans or benefit changes? Send us your comments.

The only thing that will tackle this spirit of disorder is a sense morality. today we allow to much to be gotten away with because of this idea of if it feels good do it, not caring about fuure consequences or what adverse effects they may have in the future.
- Posted by Nadia GomosAgreeing with David Cameron; it is social breakdown, people simply not caring about their actions. We take for granted the amazing things we have in the western world and are only driven by the notion of more and more.
This attitude of suckling on the goverment’s teat for social benefit. we are to dependent and not enough action is taken to pave out our own destiny’s.
Family Breakdowns are also a major contributor
multi tier plan - carrot/stick
Immediate threat response:
a) immediate issue of police under attack
ultimately this is a direct attack on
authority, and society
if there is no law and order, we have chaos, for defintion of chaos, see Iraq.
it must be met by force, swift and tough
water cannon, rubber bullets, tasers, bludgeons, horesback would work, but likely slow
and charges laid, use video to pick out
the worst offenders
let the public know, cops won’t be overly penalized, when being attacked
when defending, peace and civil order
if that fails, real bullets will eventually be needed
b) Draft everyone in the crowd, give them something to do
put them in the army
let them know you are looking forward to their next visit, as the ranks in Afghanistan and Iraq are getting a little thin
c) if there is no war, use make work projects
ie building a road in northern ontario or nunavut in fly season
or in -40c.
(apply b + c, to all illegal gang members
ie hells angels, drug dealers, or hard drug users, and automatic weapon owners),
on 3rd offence they stay in the work gang forever)
Long term response
i) youth (and others)
need something to keep them busy and train them for opportunity
we need higher level of training to make us competative.
open up schools after hours for
both academic and non-academic activities
ie music, sports, chess club
include two academic after school streams,
1) for advanced, ie physics club, chemistry club, for those who aspire beyond, arts
2) make “extra help sessions” for specific topics for those who wish extra review of topics
make apprentice teachers, and allow senior students to run the academic and possible non-academic programs.
allow social clubs ie sports, muscical, etc to run programs with thier staff (volunteer or otherwise) (set up grant system for staffing possibly)
Staff academic and some non-academic
programs with apprentice college/university students, allowing gifted high school students apprentice under them.
Make teachers serve an apprenticeship period ie a 2nd practical year off teachers college,
with a modest wage so they can live.
Have non-teacher students also server apprentice time.
ie a biz grad in combo with a community
volunteer business leader could teach practical business to students and put case studies into practice.
ie Kin grads could run sport segments for school, ie instead of summer school, have university for off hour activities,
music grad can teach music
make them all have apprentice hours
philosphy grads can have debating club
Tradesman can teach high level of skills
then normal “shop class”.
Hire one off hour Administrator to manage the off hour school programs, ie a Principal wannabe
PROVIDE THE FUNDS TO MAKE IT WORK
pay the apprentices modest wages
provide entry level jobs for youth

GIVE TAX BREAKS TO BUSINESS WHO DO IT.
INCREASE TAXES FOR THOSE WHO DON’T
We evolved our big brain due to eating a lot of fish about 5 million years ago, as did the sea mammals which are very intelligent, also animals that evolved for a time in the sea such as elephants.
- Posted by Helen HorslerNow we are not subsisting on fish we are usually dficient in Omega 3 oils, which is linked to depression and bad behaviour amongst many other things. People are also taking in a lot of things which interfere with good nutrition, such as alcohol, though red wine does have some good things in it. Experiments have shown beneficial effects from omega 3 and other nutrients on teenagers, so when will the government do something about the rubbish which passes as food instead of putting industry food experts and drug company people on its committees? The problem of bad behaviour has to be tackled from every angle possible.
If yobs had to learn to grow and cook their own organic food they would be occupied, tired and learn a new outlook on life.
This is not a comment on yob behaviour in general, but the Norfolk incident could easily have been avoided had the police not arrested 3 people for the heinous crime of ‘transporting sound equipment’
A good start to sorting out ‘yob behaviour’ would be to rewrite the Criminal Justice Bill and stop the police from picking on innocent people who are just trying to enjoy themselves.
- Posted by Ned KellyRaising alcohol age will just result in someone old enough buying booze for minors, and even making a few quid, despite any threats of punitive action for doing so. Blanket benefit cuts will merely penalise so many ‘not guity’people. This total lack of respect we see will only be addressed by a reaction to an agressive action, treat a pack animal with the only thing a pack animal understands - instant and aggressive response to an aggressive action. And also please stop trying to constantly blame the police every time something ‘bad’ happens, as if they caused it in the first place!
- Posted by Steve PhoenixSend the yobs to the far east jails for six months holiday then they will see what hardship is like. These yobs have no respect for their parents, their neighbourhood or for law and order. So until some judge gets it into their heads to sentence them to one of the following. 1.Draft into the army if they will have them. 2.A couple of years hard labour breaking rocks in the mountains, or best of all 3.A little holiday away in the Bangkok Hilton.
- Posted by Harry CahillThis is not a simple matter, we need to understand why it has happened.. it started with punishment in schools being abolished, this has been carefully orchestrated by the government for two reasons, one girls dont need so much control, thus allowing them to excel and take over key positions of power, and to remove discipline within the schools has created a breed of male that knows it wont get punished, the police are far to busy catching motorists and chasing the bail hoppers lists (trust me I know) they have become salesmen alikes, as they chase sales targets set down by the government to help massage their figures.
- Posted by Guy EudenAlso their is a real lack of hope now amoungst our young, ie: immigrants taking all of our social housing, and house prices being so high they know they have no hope of buying a home with the avarage UK home costing nearly £250,000
So what have they got to look forward too?
further to this, the government wants this typw of social decline, it needs it to effect the average voter so that it can tighten laws and control on its population and the population wont mind as the smoke screen and spin suggests its too help us not clamp down on our rights.
bet this truth wont be put up on the site.
You Reap what you Sow. Social Policy and Culture civilizes or decivilizes Society. History shows that Societies and Civilizations can decline as well as advance depending upon what you put in or legislate for.
