Ryan Gosling must have expected the question. Near the end of the press conference for his new film Lars and the Real Girl, in which Gosling plays a man in love with a life-size sex doll, somebody asked, “Where is the doll now?”

Gosling, whose romantic life has been tabloid fodder ever since he began seeing his “Notebook” co-star Rachel McAdams, responded that he had kept one of the two dolls used in the filming, while director Craig Gillespie had the other.

“I hear yours is dating Colin Farrell,” Gosling cracked to Gillespie.

Asked how McAdams viewed the new addition, Gosling said, “She doesn’t like it.”

All quips aside, the film has been one of the surprise favorites of the festival so far.

Writer Nancy Oliver credited her script to “a weird job where I came in contact with a lot of perverted websites and weird guys.”
