Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has not held a press conference since she joined John McCain’s ticket on Aug. 29, and she’s only granted a handful of  interviews. palintrig.jpg

So NBC’s “Today Show” scored a minor coup when they pulled the Alaska governor aside for a brief interview that aired Wednesday.

Did Palin lay out a vision for heading off the impending economic meltdown? Did she share her strategy for capturing Osama bin Laden?

Not exactly. The interview was limited to Palin’s encounters on the campaign trail with other parents whose children have Down syndrome.

“We have an automatic bond there where we can just look at each other in the eyes and say, ‘I know and you know, and we’re all in this together,’” Palin told NBC’s Savannah Guthrie.

“Part of the reason that I’m doing this is for my own child, who has special needs,” Palin said, referring to her 6-month-old son, Trig.

Guthrie followed up with this hardball: “Is it emotional for you?”

“Very emotional, very emotional, yeah. Mm-hm,” Palin said.
