Grimm fact: current events are dwarfed by pop culture

August 15, 2006

This is another one of those “Americans know dumb stuff but they don’t know smart stuff” surveys. We all know it’s pretty easy to have fun with these things, so we’re not breaking new ground here.Nonetheless, it turns out a whole lot more Americans can identify two of Snow White’s seven dwarfs than can name two Supreme Court Justices. Well, maybe if they’d appoint justices with funny, one-word names, that would change. Here’s another tidbit: Many more people can identify the Three Stooges than the three branches of the U.S. Government. Raise your hand if that surprises you. Here’s the story: dwarfs300.jpgDisney characters the “Seven Dwarfs” walk along Main Street during a parade at Disneyland in Anaheim, California May 2, 2005. They do have funny, one-word names, don’t they? Like that new guy Scalito? And both groups have a Dumbo, no? Oh well.
