Killer potatoes: You want collision with that?

February 6, 2006

Excuses for driving mishaps have never been more imaginative. Not long ago, we wrote about the Poster Boy for Bad Driving — a one-armed drunk British driver who clutched  his mobile phone to his ear as he sped down a city street and jumped a red light. But that guy doesn’t have the field all to himself. In Germany, a couple was spotted changing places behind the wheel while driving at 50 miles per hour, and in France a driver who raced through a highway roadblock told police he was being chased by aliens from Mars. Now, a British insurance company reveals that frozen squirrels, angry wasps and obstructive potatoes were among some of the reasons given by motorists to support their insurance claims.
