Sharapova fights back to reach French Open quarter-finals

PARIS (Reuters) – Maria Sharapova, seventh seed and last year’s losing finalist, won the last nine games of the match to sweep past Australia’s Samantha Stosur 3-6 6-4 6-0 into the French Open’s quarter-finals on Sunday.

The 19th seed outfought and outfired the former world No.1 in the first set and held her nerve when Sharapova broke early in the second set.

Tennis-Murray and Kohlschreiber battle suspended due to bad light

PARIS (Reuters) – Wimbledon champion Andy Murray was locked in a fifth-set fight for survival against Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany in the third round of the French Open on Saturday when play was suspended due to bad light.

Kohlschreiber won his last service game, as the sun dipped below the Paris horizon, to leave the fifth set at 7-7. The match will be finished on Sunday on the same Suzanne Lenglen court.
