@REDruin your comments are incorrect I visited Hong Kong years before China regained control and one of the things I noticed was the huge number of chauffeur driven Rolls Royce cars. Driver and owner were both Chinese and the British did not give much away. It is the long term planning that is the key to their success. A man will work 2 jobs and his wife will also work just so their son can go to university. Do they expect their son to study hard, you bet.

Erm, note that most of the Chinese billionaires made their money by being the sons of Chinese Central Committee members and being 'given' state-run factories to turn around, competition against them being hobbled, and basically pocketing the proceeds of the state...just as mercenary as Russia, but swept under the rug.
The Central Committee people have no problems retiring. Their children are fantastically wealthy, and will take care of their parents. It's shoving the wealth down to the poorest of the Chinese that is going to take more effort.

The long term view is what is helping to pull China out of poverty. It is the short term view that is driving the US towards poverty.
It was only 50 years ago that Kennedy spoke of a nation that would bear any burden. What happened to the USA.

To have a better perception of the chinese determination to overcome extreme adversity, just watch the video(youtube) on China got talent 2010 winner.
Just listen to the response from a 22 years handicapped young man, that move the heart of the world audience.
It is impossible for China to remain as an ordinary country with such vast talents.
