Though "luddite" has long been something of an epithet, it is worth noting that nearly all forms of working class struggle are closely related to Luddite sabotage. Outsourcing is a (social) technology that tends to degrade domestic and foreign livelihoods: when it is opposed, whether by jingoistic protectionists or by labor unions, people are acting as Luddites. This article gets it exactly backwards: the economic relations (within and between State powers) are outgrowths of the social relations at the site of production. Credit, inflation, expropriation by a wealthy elite, were made possible by a revolution in the social relations of production: the industrial revolution. Perceval wouldn't have gone to the length of execution for vandalism if the Luddites weren't onto an effective tactic. It is very interesting but could be questionned by the use of internet that the luddites hadn't but would be very pleased to add to their manual handicraft!!
