Comments on: Lagarde is wrong choice to head IMF Mon, 26 Sep 2016 03:26:00 +0000 hourly 1 By: AHooks Thu, 26 May 2011 01:33:55 +0000 “Lagarde, who has no academic training in economics or finance, doesn’t even seem to have a strong set of beliefs.” Are you sure? Bloomberg’s profile says she has a masters in economics.

“Finally, she hasn’t even done what finance ministers should do in deficit-prone countries: be the voice of fiscal discipline.”
Sometimes being the voice of fiscal discipline is warranted. Sometimes in the short term it’s not.

If we follow your idea, she wouldn’t have been chosen as Finance Minister in 2007 because at this period she did not know enough about finance and economics.

And she is now the second longest to fullfill the Finance Minister position since 50 years.

Indeed she had time to “learn” finance and economics (finance crisis is a good training no?.

The Adidas case is the problem of her possible application. will Sarkozy take the risk to propose her application (maximum June 10th) without knowing Justice Court decision (June 15th forecasted)? A very long gap of 1 week and a big risk for Sarkozy, known by IMF and Geithner!…
