Add to both of these facts that the NRA and gun rights movements across the country regard him as public enemy number one for his sponsorship and leadership of various anti-gun rights organizations.

Many of those ideas are strongly opposed by parts of the electorate. The huge problem is the idea of coming to Washington without the support of party structure. That becomes a steep curve for actually getting things done. Combine that with the obstructionist wing of the GOP and we could have another mostly moot presidency.
