Tencent can win with a $9 bln bet on Supercell

The Chinese web giant is reportedly talking about buying the maker of Clash of Clans at an unexpectedly high $9 bln valuation. Such a big deal would be a first for Tencent. But buying the games-maker from Japan’s SoftBank could pay off - if Supercell can keep churning out gems.

UPS love letter validates TNT’s earlier break-up

Long-term suitor UPS made a $6.4 bln proposal to the Dutch courier just before Valentine’s day. For now TNT is being rightly coy. And FedEx may yet disrupt the courtship. But clearly TNT’s break from dowdy domestic mail unit PostNL is achieving the desired effect.

Cadbury gives sweet update, shares unmoved

Todd Stitzer and his colleagues at Cadbury must surely have hoped for more. Wednesday’s eagerly-awaited trading update chewed up the outside forecasts and showed there is nothing Flake-y about this business. Growth in sales in the last quarter was 7 percent, against the previous guidance of 4-6 percent. Margins are improving and the future’s coming up Roses.
