New bid to revive UK’s only Islamic insurer

LONDON, April 28 (Reuters) – The UK’s only Islamic insurer
is selling its subsidiaries to one of its largest shareholders,
in a bid to kick-start the moribund sector after it pulled out
of the market last year.

Principle Insurance Holdings, which operates as Salaam
Halal, stopped writing policies in November last year, after

VTB renews sukuk plans after Dubai knock – source

LONDON, April 23 (Reuters) – VTB Bank <VTBR.MM> plans to launch an Islamic bond worth about $200 million in the second half after postponing from last year, when defaults and Dubai World’s woes hit the market, a source familiar with the deal said.

VTB, the second-largest Russian financial group, has cut the size of the sukuk from an original target of $300 million, the source said.

Emerging resplendent from the shadows of  more illustrious peers after long years spent relevant only to a modest group of those in the know; attributes not only pertinent to the ascendant LibDem leader but also to Defined Contribution pensions, known as DC.

It’s no wonder their popularity is growing: DC funds are cheaper for sponsors — albeit riskier for employees , who have done a great job of pretending these schemes which pay out based on investment returns will provide them with the kind of plush retirement the old guard of final salary schemes seemed to promise.
