Bolt wins 100 metres gold medal

Usain Bolt of Jamaica won the Olympic 100 metres on Saturday, shattering the world record in the process with a time of 9.69 seconds.

Bolt thumped his chest in celebration as he crossed the line, after leaving Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago (silver) and American Walter Dix (bronze) trailing at the Bird’s Nest Stadium.

Asafa Powell finished out of the medals, while Tyson Gay was eliminated in the semi-finals.

Bolt had looked capable of running an extremely fast time as he ambled through the heats and so it proved in Beijing on Saturday as he pulled off a win that will live long in the memory.

But what do you think of his achievement? Let us know in the comments. We’ll have more on this later, but for now, here’s another photo:

How would we feel if others discarded our work, our preparation, our skill, our talent, our determination and our excellence, just because they didn’t like the way we celebrated a victory?

Rather than discard him, understands where Usain Bolt’s chest thump comes from.

It is interesting to note how Ato Boldon criticized this young man while memories are fresh of his own celebratory stance when he gained victory at significantly lower times than Bolt.

Bolt is a very young athlete who demonstrated youthful exuberance in victory. And I might add my entire household was celebrating as he headed home to the finish line. We just could not believe the magnificence of this run. The man just wanted to win and was elated with his victory. Unfortunately I detect a hint of jealousy in the criticism and so I take it with a grain of salt.

Contrast his 200 metre run, his pet event. Oh poetry in motion. A beautiful race, a determined man striking out for the world record. What a stunning achievement. Watching it was like watching a beautiful thoroughbred at the track.

Bolt I life my hat to you. Jamaica is proud.

\’usain to di flippin worl\’an to di sola\’system\’ now to all who insist that bolt lack sportsmanship, u try holding back the joy of winning an event at the highest level for an event that was never your speciality and at such a young age, when all that mattered was getting hold. DON\’T WATCH WE WATCH YUHSELF. anyways, bolt made us proud and while doing that left the world wondering how fast can he go, represent ya\’a bolt, yuh large MEK MI TEK WEY MISELF -Martin dunkirk, kingston

OK, so he’s fast — but his sportmanship leaves a lot to be desired. What’s with all the gestures when he’s introduced to the crowd — and looking back at his competitors, as if sticking out his tongue, because he’s winning. He needs a good slice of humble pie.

He cakewalked it… made it look so easy

I don’t think it is humanly possible to run 8 flat. You do realize he pulled up with 15 meters to go. A human can only accelerate 60-65 meters than he will be deccelerating. I think he can run 9.5 seconds, but it wont be easy.

Congrats to Bolt, to all the haters out there, there was no criticizm for people like Johnson esp when he challenge D. Bailey to a 150 metre race or drug taking Justin Gatlin. The American drug reign is now coming to a end and now a non American has done the immposibble it is all hating instead of love. Why would he give the full hundred when there are other track meets to come and he can chip at his own record slowly and turn it into a show. I personally want to see him work his time very slowly down to 9.5 in about 3-4 races and take that Puma money at the same time. Ppl seem to forget that running is a Job like anything else and he has to do what is in his best interest. so go Puma Bolt! Gatorade Bolt! Endosements where are you?

Bold showed no respect for the sport, his competitors or himself. It does not matter if he is 21 or 12. How does he think he gets a pay check…because people like you and me want to hear what he has to say after the race. His refusal to speak to the press is just another example of disrespect for the fans. Be humble it will get you much further in life. Someone need to knock that kid into next week and have him start showing everyone a little more respect.

what’s with everyone talking about Bold being cocky and unsportsmanlike because he choose to celebrate early. The guy is only 21 and still a bit amature. He runs because he can and as he said he only wanted to win and get the gold and once he realized he had done that the joy just took over. Some of you guys are just too cynical and probably forget what its like to be a 21 year old. Lighten up everyone!!!

A big yay to usain lightning bolt. I enjoyed the silver medalist richard thompson’s celebration rolling on the track like a baby. gotta save that video. Frasers celebration was also quite cute.

What a great achievement! However it “clanked” a little bit for me that he didn’t show more respect for the event by running through the tape. Rather than cement his mark in history, maybe for all time, he looked more like a football player (undoubtedly he will be recruited) taunting his opponent by slowing down just before crossing the goal line. The taunting, the posing, the posturing…that doesn’t seem like the Olympic spirit to me.

I agree with Olympic Glory - you take your opportunities as they come. There is no guarantee there will be a next time. A little humility goes a long, long way.

man hes the ‘REAL KING OF TRACKS’ !! mesmerizing sprint think hes the only one around to pass beyond his own record of 9.69 !

Usain Bolt is the ‘Real Big Man’.

The race was spectacular, superb, wonderful, an excellent performance.

Jamaica “Wi lickle but wi talawah”.

The little island Jamaica shook at the sound of the gun, citizens in every nook and cranny got on their feet - shouting, screaming, jumping, crying, laughing, clapping, all ten fingers and toes crossed - “RUN, RUN, RUN!!

A country with ‘Out of Many, One People’, took a break to watch it’s three home grown athletes and three neighbouring Caribbean athletes, take the Beijing Olympics 100m Mens Final track, and blaze it with a vengeance.

China pepared a Birds Nest for us and and we flew off with the gold and silver medals, and a heart filled with pride.

Congrats Usain Bolt, you showed the world that Jamaicans are not Chikens.

We Are Eagles.

No linga, No linga!
