Nonplussed Lampard rewrites his Chelsea story with City goal

LONDON (Reuters) – Jose Mourinho declared the love story was over and a bemused Frank Lampard said he was lost for words after the former Chelsea midfielder came on as a substitute for Manchester City and scored against the club he had called his own for 13 years.

Lampard had often stolen headlines for Chelsea but the club’s record scorer never believed that his first goal after leaving London would rob them of victory in the Premier League and send banner writers into a frenzy.

Falcao stays cool under Manchester United glare

LONDON (Reuters) – A composed and measured Radamel Falcao made his media bow at Manchester United on Thursday, showing few signs of the weight of goal-scoring expectation on his shoulders.

United, who have managed only two points in three league games under new coach Louis van Gaal so far this season, paraded Falcao and fellow new signing Daley Blind to the press and cameras before their expected debuts against Queens Park Rangers this weekend.

Czechs chase third straight final away to France

By Clare Lovell

(Reuters) – A noisy crowd, big stage and Roland Garros atmosphere could play an important part in France’s Davis Cup semi-final against record-chasing champions Czech Republic, according to old hands Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Radek Stepanek.

Tsonga, who leads a talented team of top 30-ranked players including Gael Monfils, Richard Gasquet and Julien Benneteau into this weekend’s tie, said the home crowd on familiar French Open clay would propel them to their first final since 2010.
