Are Australia going down under?

Has the meltdown begun for Australia’s triumphant cricket team? That is the big question. It was not just India handing them a record 320-run defeat, the match also showed up a flat Australian team who were well behind from start to finish.

Australia are suffering much more by the retirements of Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist than they would admit. Their replacements have come nowhere near making an impact on the game.

Their leading batsman Matthew Hayden has repeatedly failed and express paceman Brett Lee was so bad he was not given a bowl an entire session in the Indian second innings in Mohali.

Australia’s meticulous planning has also been called into question.

Their batsmen fell to the swing bowling of Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma while their bowlers have struggled to find any movement.

Captain Ricky Ponting admitted his team were outplayed in Mohali and was confident the number one test team would bounce back. A week’s break is expected to help the tourists pick up the pieces but will they really be a force in the Delhi test starting on Oct. 29?

India are favourites to win the Delhi test and clinch the series.

Is this Australian side capable of finding the answers?

ya thats true but i dont think it should be considered so fast…….the rest 2 matches r left and the aussies can come back……..they r the world champions and wont lose hope so fast………anyway i felt that its not good for us to comment on likes of hayden and brett lee….hayden is put of form and poor brett seems to be struggling mentally…….i think theyll make a comeback…..well lets wait and watch…..

Hi

India has just won only one test match. They have a long long way to go both to be number one team and to be a professional cricket team.

So, as long as Australian team is on top and keep playing top cricket no one can replace them. I hope its going to be a good game in Delhi.

Yes, Australia’s dominance is coming to an end..their pace bowlers though can’t be judged by the syrup slow wickets in India, prepared for spin!More importantly they have lost the hunger/desire to obliterate the opposition. It happened here with the West Indies..we did not develop any future cricketers and Aussies will go down soon…but not for long…Val

Yes indeed, Australia is no more a leader in cricket world. There is no doubt that Glenn, Shane and Adam’s exit from the team has removed Australia from the top of the list.

One thing is for sure, the rivalry between India and Australia has churned some good next gen cricketers for Indian team. I think the next 5 years will be very interesting to see, I seriously doubt Australia could lead, I think India will take the top position for the next decade.
