LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Family members of a California man linked to an anti-Islam film that triggered violent protests across the Muslim world went into hiding on Monday, with sheriff’s deputies escorting them from their home to an undisclosed location, authorities said.
The family of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, was accompanied from their two-story stucco house in the Los Angeles suburb of Cerritos before dawn on Monday, Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said.
CERRITOS, California (Reuters) – Evidence mounted on Thursday that a Los Angeles-area man who served time in prison for bank fraud may have been involved in an anti-Muslim video that stoked violent protests in the Islamic world against the United States.
Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, who lives in the Los Angeles suburb of Cerritos, has been linked by news organizations to production of the low-budget film clip, which has been circulated under several titles, including “Innocence of Muslims.”
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Convicted murderer Gregory Powell, who kidnapped two Los Angeles police officers and killed one of them in 1963, a crime chronicled in the book and film “The Onion Field,” has died in prison at the age of 79.
Powell, who was serving a life sentence in prison for the murder of officer Ian Campbell, died of natural causes on Sunday, said California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman Lieutenant Andre Gonzales.

Former Cudahy City Councilman Osvaldo Conde, 50, who recently resigned his post, has agreed to plead guilty to bribery and extortion charges, U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesman Thom Mrozek said.
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A California man who spent 18 years on the run from charges that he molested a 4-year-old girl has been arrested in Guatemala and returned to the United States for prosecution, authorities said on Tuesday.
Jeffrey Reed Parrish, 65, was taken into custody by Guatemalan police without incident on Thursday afternoon at his home in Panajachel, about 90 miles from Guatemala City, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

Stallone pleaded on Monday for the public to leave his son’s
“memory and soul” in peace amid a tabloid media frenzy over the
aspiring actor and filmmaker’s death at age 36.
Sage Stallone was found dead on Friday in his home in
Hollywood. Los Angeles County Coroner’s examiners conducted an
autopsy on Sunday but say the results and a cause of death would
not be released for weeks pending toxicology and other tests.
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Aspiring actor and filmmaker Sage Stallone, the son of action movie star Sylvester Stallone, was found dead on Friday at his home in Hollywood, authorities and his attorney said.
Police and a lawyer for Sage Stallone, 36, the younger of two sons from his father’s first marriage, gave conflicting accounts of how he was found, but police said there was no sign of forced entry or foul play.
