Beckenbauer will answer FIFA questions, wants ban lifted

SANTO ANDRE Brazil (Reuters) – Franz Beckenbauer said on Sunday he was ready to answer questions from FIFA about an investigation into World Cup bidding by June 27 and believed that should remove any justification for its 90-day ban on him.

In a statement released via Twitter on Sunday, his spokesman Marcus Hoefl said that Beckenbauer’s readiness to answer the questions by FIFA’s ethics committee lifts any reason to uphold the ban issued by soccer’s world governing body on Friday.

German style can win over Brazilian fans: Podolski

SANTO ANDRE Brazil (Reuters) – The tropics of northern Brazil are a long way from home for Lukas Podolski and his Germany team mates yet the forward is hoping their attacking style will win over many Brazilians for their opening World Cup match against Portugal on Monday.

Brazil’s language and cultural ties to Portugal might put Germany in the role of ostensible outsiders in the Group G match in Salvador.

Striker turned defender Durm gives Germany more options

SANTO ANDRE Brazil (Reuters) – Germany’s Erik Durm was an obscure striker playing in the German third division last year before Borussia Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp converted him into a defender.

The 22-year-old was not even on the radar of Germany coach Joachim Loew until recently but his fairytale journey to the World Cup might even lead him into the starting lineup.
