General Motors Corp. showed off a Chevrolet Camaro prototype inspired by
the 1969 version of the legendary muscle car to try to rev up demand for its return.
Executives at GM cited fans’ intense interest surrounding the seven-month development effort behind the 400-horsepower concept car as an indication of potential demand from buyers. GM estimated 100,000 fans watched the Detroit unveiling via Webcast. It invited another 250 enthusiasts to watch in person. “It’s like a cult out there,” Lutz said of the Camaro fan base.
Many expect Chrysler and Chevrolet to put the Challenger and Camaro into production, given Ford Motor Co.’s success with its redesigned version of the original 1960s muscle car, the Mustang. (photo: REUTERS/Rebecca Cook)

- Posted by RayHopefully GM can keep the price competitive with the Mustang.
- Posted by Davidbring back the styling of the 1957 chevy with modern accessories and perfrmance package. today every car looks the same.they are based on wind tunnel tests ans you can’t tell one from another. get some descent styling in your cars and be a little different from all the rest.one of the more recent better cars you built was the beretta and you did away with it. it had good performance and was relatively inexpensive.
- Posted by robert fisherI have nothing aganist the camaro, in fact I own a 97 camaro SS convertible. But this new version does not do it for me. The swoopy, grin-like grille has got to go and the whole car looks like it’s pumped up with air the way it bulges everywhere. I think I’ll put my money on the new Challenger. Sorry Chevy.
