Comments on: Pius polemics persist — more due next month? Religion, faith and ethics Sat, 23 Apr 2016 23:25:07 +0000 hourly 1 By: Reinhard Postl Sat, 18 Oct 2008 16:13:02 +0000 From an undated letter to Pope Pius XI presumably from April 12 1933, which has been handed personally to the Pope by Arch Abbot Raphael Walzer from Beuron (Germany), Edith Steins spiritual advisor on April 20 1933. Only ten weeks after Hitlers take over (Machtergreifung) on January 30 1933 Edith Stein writes in her letter to the Pope P. XI from “actions […], which are in defiance of justice and humanity – not to speak even of charity”, of “hatred against jews” and “excesses”, of “despair”, which had already led in her private neighbourhood “to 5 suicides as the result of these persecutions”. – All this in that short period.

Later in her letter: “But the responsibility falls in great part on those, which brought it so far. And on those who are silent.” … “Since weeks not only jews wait and hope but thousands of loyal catholics in germany – and I think all over the world – are waiting on, that the church rises its voice to stop the missuse for the christs name unity.” –

In view of this early document, how one can disregard the objections of the confounded jews. (See the speech to the world bishops synod at the Vatican on October 06 2008 by Rabbi Shear-Yashuv Cohen relative to Pope Pius XII)
