Excellent speech, excellent comment, let us hope it becomes historic. We should be clear that within every great religious tradition you find different denominations. Some are tolerant and respectful of others, some are intolerant even violent. Some are good others are not.
It is not enough with respect. Churches and mosques should interest their worshippers in taking an interest in other religions and denominations. That will strengthen their members' own faith and help make the Obama initiative historic.

Yet he praised not only the obvious intellectual and cultural achievements of the Muslim world, but also its moral virtues. Even as the armies of the mighty Suleiman the Magnificent were laying siege to Vienna, Luther wrote that, as far as “good customs and good works” were concerned, “the Turks are far superior to our Christians.” It took courage and honesty to state the truth."

When exactly were these achievements? A thousand years ago? I wonder if the defenders of Vienna, Malta, and Spain shared such a wonderful view of the Turks as that of dear old constipated Martin Luther? Can't we all get along? No, not with the Salafists, in spite of Obama's pretty words. There will only be war.

The Four-Way Test of what we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and Better Friendships?
4. Will it Be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

This was developed in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor who was a dedicated Christian businessman in Chicago. It has been translated into over 100 languages and adopted by numerous business and institutions around the world. Perhaps the best known among them is Rotary International which holds the copyright. The Test is applicable to personal, business as well as international relations.
