In my first sentence above, my hasty typing contributed to a goof by leaving out the word [done] so that the sentence (in part for brevity's sake here) should've read " ... acting in ways that have done little to uphold long-held teachings ... " Moreover, I'd be delighted to stand corrected by a spokesman or woman for the Russian Orthodox and/or Russian government concerning the issue of allowing more freedom of worship for non-Russian Orthodox Christians.

The Russian Orthodox and many concerned Russian politicians are taking the lead (along with the Catholic Church) in Europe when it comes to voicing concern over the EU and other governmental and religious bodies acting in ways that have little to uphold long-held teachings that predate even the formation of the Christian Bible. I'm referring to the early and pre-Great Schism Church's Tradition. This time if the Russians want to roll westward, by all means, let them. A strong Orthodox Christian and post-communist Russia can only help to improve both the moral and social climate of Europe; thus helping to stem the rise of both militant Islam and atheism. My only concern with the Orthodox is their unwillingness to allow other Christian Churches operate freely within Russia. God's Truth and love know of no ethnic groupings or borders.
