Celebrity heiress Paris Hilton, who spent three weeks in a Los Angeles jail earlier this year relating to drunk driving charges, has reportedly found a new cause after missing out on a charity mission to Rwanda – saving drunken elephants in India, according to an interview carried by the World Entertainment News Network and picked up widely online including on Teen Hollywood.
Hilton was apparently horrified to discover some elephants were electrocuted after drinking rice beer brewed by locals, going on a rampage and uprooting an electricity pylon in the northeast state of Meghalaya. Hilton is urging locals to lock up their booze.
“There would have been more causalities if the villagers hadn’t chased them away. And four elephants died in a similar way three years ago. It is just so sad,” Hilton was reported as saying. “The elephants get drunk all the time. It is becoming really dangerous. We need to stop making alcohol available to them.”
But as the story ran wild online so did its credibility with reports later in the day that the hotel heiress did not pledge herself to this cause. Reuters was unable to contact Hilton’s publicist to confirm or deny the reports running rampage.
