“Idol” David Archuleta: Will he work it out?

How the mighty has fallen.david-archuleta.JPG

Tuesday night on “American Idol,” 17-year-old David Archuleta officially lost his place as the singing competition’s frontrunner. Not only did the Utah native forget the lyrics (always a kiss of death on ‘Idol’) to The Beatles’ “We Can Work it Out,” he never recovered from the mistake. Judge Randy Jackson dubbed his uninspired performance “very forced,” while Simon Cowell bluntly called it “a mess.”

To make matters even weirder, Archuleta said in his pre-recorded interview that he had been nervous about having to choose a song from the Lennon/McCartney songbook because he “wasn’t too familiar with the songs.” Seriously.

For Archuleta, the performance was a dramatic about-face. Just two weeks into the competition last month, the Los Angeles Times dubbed Archuleta “the Chosen One” and said “the competition is on the brink of collapsing in the face of a talent who lays waste to all before him.”

Unfortunately for the baby-faced Archuleta, his fall from grace happened to coincide with a downright shocking reversal of fortunes for a 22-year-old Californian contestant who goes by just one name: Chikezie.

The affable Chikezie had been shrugged off by many as a bore, narrowly missing elimination last week. But on Tuesday night he bounced back with a passionate performance of “She’s a Woman” that started with a bluegrass twist and morphed into an all-out rock song. The judges were floored, with Jackson asking “Who knew?” and Cowell saying Chikezie had changed in just a week.

One fan on the ‘Idol’ message boards summed it up best:

“Chikezie was HOTT tonight!”

Ok so all of you that say that David Archuleta has fell from the top spot of American Idol can just go to the nearest tall building and jump off. One fricken mess up and everyone decides to turn against him. This is BS. I mean seriously? Ashlee Simpson, who is a professional singer and has been singing for a while, lip synched. She didnt even have to remember the words because she was singing live. David had a week to remember a song that he wasnt really familiar with it AND he sang it live. He is 17 for Christ’s sake. Give him a break. He has talent and maturity beyond his years and plus, he is really good looking. He is not the only talent in the copmetition but he has the most heart. He is my favorite idol and he will go all the way. GOOD LUCK DAVID ARCHULETA!!!!!!!! (by the way, i am a girl.=])
Oh and if you read this David, I need you to come into my classroom for a project I am doing…so look me up on Myspace and Facebook.;]

There is nothing wrong with not knowing the Beatles at age 17. I’m 27 and I still hate the Beatles, cannot stand listening to them, and I don’t understand what the big deal is. Fundamentally they did nothing different that all the other “great” bands. Throw the Beatles in a meat grinder and you get Nirvana sausage. Put the sausage on a bun and you have a Nine Inch Nails bratwurst.

The Beatles aren’t all that special. Get over it already.

I think he will turn it around. We are all human and make mistakes. I love him! He is sooooooooo gorgeous and his voice sends shivers down my spine.

Chikezie’s “performance” was excellent, but his singing was mediocre, at best. He simply is not the kind of singer who will sell records. If you turn off the video and just listen to the sound, even his most recent performance is forgettable (what did he sing again? I actually forgot.)

Brooke is the new frontrunner. She has the most awesome natural pipes–with more professional trainer, she will indeed become another Carly Simon.

David Archuleta has a great voice; he should be given a 2nd. chance. People get very nervous in these situations; its normal!!!

David Archulets is still an amazing singer in my book and I think so in many other people as well. As last night was the beatles, many of the idols struggled with it I believe. David had not been familliar with it I am my self 17 and have no clue about half there songs and as the same as David I was at a lost with what they were singing but I dont have to remember the song in a week. The unknown knowledge of the song ultimatly showed in his performance and the forgeting of the lyrics was an obvious however I still showed David my comitment as a fan and voted for him because he is still a stronge singer and on performance where he didnt do to good wasnt going to chang ethe fact that in previous weeks he was the strongest. And as a fan (any fan of any of the idols)should support your pick and ensuring that the go on to the next week.oh ya i wouldnt be a true fan if i didnt say the famous line of “David your AMAZING and im your bigest fan”
*~Peace,hope,love~*

*~ALWAYS VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE~*

David Archuleta is definitely the BEST… i dont care… who thinks theyre all big and bad… He IS GOING to win…. he’s sooo cute… and he CAN sing… i mean who listens to the beatles anyway??? its practically stone age! PAAALEEEEZZZ! Im surprised they didnt have to chizzle the lyrics out…. so… people can trash… david archadorable… but he will still win… there are too many love struck teenage girls in this nation for him to lose….. DUH!!!!!!

David is still the front runner. He will work it out, because he is a professional. He is the best voice in this competition, and of course, he is just so lovable. He should still be able to win the competition. Despite one off night, (Jordin Sparks had SO MANY off nights, and she still won! So did the other winners!) David will show the world he is the best singer, and he will take the prize of American Idol 2008.

- Posted by David Fan :]

Of course David A will work it out.
See what happens when you take Simon’s advice!
Last week Simon told David he needed to up his performance level.

David is a gifted talented singer…a singer…not a performer.
So many think they can substitute performing for actual singing.
If they make the right moves and “smoke and mirrors” the audience
they think we won’t notice that they can’t sing. ( Amanda O) And the truth is that there are some people who can be fooled. But there are many more who can’t and they know talent and they know a true gift when they hear it.

David has to stay true to his own heart and sing the songs that touch him.
We will listen and be touched by them also.

My votes are still going to David A and will til the very end. And when he is the next “American Idol” I will buy his CD’s and stand in line for his tickets to his concerts. He is worthy of the “American Idol” crown cause he has a true gift and he is humbled by it.

To start out, let me just say I’m a HUGE Archuleta fan. But. He ROYALLY screwed up. I was embarrassed FOR him. Forgetting the words (twice) is definitely “the kiss of death,” but only if you don’t have an expansive tween girl fanbase. He was incredibly nervous, as he should have been. I sincerely hope that he doesn’t get voted out, though, because we all know that he can do better and we all want to see more of him.

I loved Carly last night. The worst was the “Eight Days a Week” wreck that had me peeking through my fingers at the carnage.

Meanwhile, I am absolutely DONE with all the sidebar squabbling. The “gay” jabs have a junior high school locker room level of sophistication. Simon acts like a self indulgent, snotty twelve year old when he rolls his eyes and interrupts with yet another oh, so clever put down. The push and pinch fights between Simon and Paula are simply childish. They are being incredibly rude to the contestants whose post performance interviews are getting upstaged and cut short. It’s not fair that some contestants get their face time while others don’t. And it’s all incredibly insulting to us viewers - the show’s bickering has reached the Jerry Springer Show level. We deserve better for prime time TV.

Sponsors take notice: If the rude fighting continues at this pace then I’ll stop watching the show live. I’ll simply tape it and fast forward through all the junk… the squabbles and, while I’m at it, the commercials!

David Cook (who single-handedly made “Eleanor Rigby” lose its mystique and allure by making it into a dynamic-less rock song) and The Forgettable Blonde Who Annihilated “Eight Days A Week” should go. Had David messed up later in the competition and had he been singing against better opponents, he could have been in trouble.

- Posted by Sara

Everybody make mistake. He’s not a GOD! Give him a second change. He forgot the lyric(which is bad) because he doesn’t familiar with the song. Simon told him o pick a different song, not a sad song. But its competition, they try to make you feel like s*** at the end I have true believe he will be @ the top 2! Go David, we love you……..

This msg is for Jeremy Kowalski for doesn’t like and doesn’t understand what the big deal is with the Beatles. You can’t be faulted for that as you were not around to see the HUGE change in muscial direction that they brought. Prior to the Beatles music most songs, although fun to sing along with, were very predictable. Three Guitars, One Drummer - Verse, Chorus, 2nd Verse, Chorus, 2nd Verse repeated, Chorus. The Beatles broke the mold with their energy, their lyrics, their arrangements, the use of varied musical instruments and their progression through various albums where no two were alike. You would have had to have been aware of the music BEFORE their debut to understand and admire and respect what happened after they arrived on the scene. It was an extremely exciting time in music, probably how earlier listeners felt when seeing and hearing Elvis Presley, after years of listening to Frank Sinatra and Ethel Merman. Best Regards, Ana

My heart went out to him last night. He is young and has a lot of pressure on him right now. I was suprised when he said he wasn’t familiar with Beatles songs when he did such an awesome job with John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Hopefully he will come back next week and do a great job again. I’ve been staying up just to hear him sing. David is cute, he messed up a little, but I voted for him again as his true fans will continue to do.

I really love David Archuleta. And I am not a love struck teen. I am married, with a family and just find that he is so pure and an awesome singer.

Last season I was a Jordin Sparks fan (I have her CD playing right now as I type) I remember a night that she didn’t do so well when it was a genre she wasn’t familar with. I still voted for her.

Although I didn’t have a chance to vote last night for David before the phone lines went down I truly believe he is one of the best for American Idol and I wish him the best of luck. I hope he comes out #1 as he has a large fan base.

Again, Good Luck David!

- Posted by Becky

David will indeed work it out! I mean he messed up but he still has the top vocal talent. I am almost sure that his other fans, like me, voted in over drive last night!!! Come on.. David has the complete package… Looks, vocals, fans, and maturity!

- Posted by Philip Leodoro- Chicagos #1 Kelly Clarkson Fan

At this point, it should be clear that Archuleta (deservedly) could just as well go to the center of the stage and pull an Exorcist - Linda Blair - piss on the stage, drop the mic and tell everyone Your’e all going to die up there” — and it wouldn’t matter. Simon’s curt slap “That was a mess” served only to “mess up” his GENORMOUS fan base and provoke an almost protective mass hysteria to the lines to keep him atop. According to the website which tracks signals, he received the highest scores based on last night, than any night he’s ever performed. Now that’s what you call a fan base. Do what they may - show him last, cut him off, edit his exposure on the red carpet (beattlemania) clips, it’s all for naught - he’s bagged it - those ‘tweens won’t EVER let him lose!!

David………your amazing……as long as you believe in yourself you can do anything!!! You always miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take –you’re the BEST!!!! (seriously…those other singers couldn’t touch you for miles) Im voting for you always! Don’t sweat it (-: Keep your trust in God…<3

O and I forgot to mention…..I have everyone in the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia voting for you (literally all the nurses and doctors watchyou in my room lol….and I myself got a few hundred votes in for you last nite…I was textin (: My grandmother sent you a letter last saturday from PA with my pic. so you know who your NUMBER ONE fan is =) <3

David specifically said when he heard this was Beatles’ week he was nervous BUT then he said that he knew “We Can Work it Out” very well.

Obviously, nerves got David last night causing him to forget the lyrics to a song he knew well.

I’m a big David A. fan but I don’t think he’s the best singer in the competition & I’m also starting to question whether he’s in over his head compared to more mature & experienced performers. His competitors are going to take advantage of his nerves in order to save themselves.

Falling apart once is ok; if it happens again, he’s going to be in major trouble with Simon.

- Posted by Katie G. Hope

My heart went out to him too, but I will continue to vote for David A. until a new Idol is chosen this season. I think his best songs are yet to be performed. In the past, he has shown he is a very talented and professional singer on all his videos (except last night). On the “Shop Around” performance. he nailed that song and it’s from the early 1960’s by the Miracles. I hope he sings that song and “Imagine” on his CD. Think about it… he’s under a lot of pressure…and continue to vote for BY FAR the most talented performer on Idol.

- Posted by Fan Til the End

You said it! I don’t like the beatles at all and i think their songs are far from the greatest ever written…It’s completley normal for David to be nervous i don’t blame him! His performance doesn’t change the fact that he as an incredible person and a great singer. And of course verrrryyy good-looking. There really aren’t many 17-year-olds like him. GO DAVID!!!

- Posted by victoria

It was a tough night for David and his fans. He was bound to have a bad night, and he did. I don’t care what anyone says. No contestant his age has ever had the hype and pressure put on his or her shoulders so early out of the gate that this boy has had put on his over the last few weeks. As for not knowing the Beatles. I grew up listening to nothing but country. Different people grow up listening to different things. I didn’t discover and then fall in love with the Beatles until I was in college. Congratulations to those that did well! I really enjoyed Carly, Jason and Brooke. And for those that didn’t have such good nights, better luck next time. Hang in there little David and keep your! We love you and know you can do it.

okay whoever wrote that about david archuleta needs to be seriously showed up. soo what if he messed up, i am in lovve with him. he is the most adorable thing i’ve ever seen and he has an amaing voice. hes true to himself, has a good time up there and doesn’t pretend to be someone hes not. soo what if he messed up hes was nervous, what is he not human is he not aloud to make a mistake. im suuree that the person wrote has a made a few mistakes. people write things soo much worse then they really are for publicity. david needs to stay, i love him, hes beautiful :)

- Posted by stacey

I was shocked when David forgot the lyrics twice. This never happens to a singer that is as talented as David. Obviously, something was not right. Maybe he was not feeling 100%. David reminds me of Josh Groban. I hope he choses one of Groban’s songs. Only someone with a voice like David A. can perform Groban. I love the two and will stand by David all the way. Let’s support him and vote for him. He should be the next Idol.

- Posted by archuletacrazy

Archuleta needs to grow up fast if he is going this win this season. The cute dimple boy thing was good when he was picking his own songs but now he has to compete with seasoned singers and older talent, not to mention the themes, which happen to be somewhat skewed to an older, ahem, more mature crowd. I think he should run out and buy some R&B music, hammer it out till he”s got it down cold and then add his own spin.
Just my 2 cents

- Posted by heidi

I am glad people will stop calling him the winner! It is like a curse! Now he can have a great come back from that less than stellar performance. We all make mistakes and David is going no where. His fan base is larger than life! I LOVE YOU DAVID!!! Btw, he has the most pressure on him being told he was the best so early in the competion and on top of that he is the ONLY TEEN left! He is STILL a front runner!

VOTE FOR DAVID A.!

This is to Jeremy Kowalski. Considering that you grew up in the 80’s, it’s easy to see why you have no appreciation of the Beatles. However, your reasoning is slightly skewed. The Beatles were not just a band that wrote some popular songs. They were pioneers in, not only the songwriting field, but nearly every aspect of the music industry. There is a reason that Sgt. Peppers is commonly referred to as one of the most influential albums of all time by fans AND prominent critics and publications, ranking number 1 on Rolling Stone’s The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2003. Their recording innovations changed the face of recording forever (Trent Reznor can thank them for that). Top that off with the fact that they ALL were amazingly talented and prolific musicians and artists. McCartney still rates as my favorite bass player. His multi-instrumental abilities alone are meritous, never mind the fact that he is a master at his craft. The only connection I see with Nirvana is the sheer passion that these artists display.

Ultimately, as a musician, I can only hope that you can give them the credit they deserve or, at the very least, get a little pleasure from their music. What do you like? Rock? Metal? Folk? Soul? Country? Pop? Considering that Disco is practically the only genre they haven’t had a hit with, there must be something in there to please an open mind. Got one?

- Posted by andrew padua

Okay so he messed up, but who cares!!!!!!!! Everyone else has messed up before!!!!!!!!! He IS the next American Idol even though he wasn’t on his game last night. To say he has lost his place as front runner is nonsense. And if by some chance he doesn’t win, that means he too good for American Idol. GO DAVID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Posted by Minnie

im SoRRy..!!! David Archuleta!!! YOU HAVE To i “REPEAT” HAVE TO BE UNIVERSAL SINGER..!! That Means a Person THat is able To ADAPT TO A NEW Structure in Music Life!!! DONT STRESS he STILL will Make it to the TOP 3 BUT NOT the AMERICAN IDOL #1…YES..! LOved HIM.. BUT NO… i HAve TO MOve on..WE ALL HAVE TO MOVE ON FROM HIM…

GO DAVID HERNANDEZ..!!! IT’s ABOUT YOU NOW~~!!

- Posted by Jordan

I forgot to mention David. He’s a good singer with a good image and personality. But he’s only 17. At his age, the Beatles were playing 10 hour shows daily in Germany (sorry, I’m still on my Beatles kick.) I wish him well but don’t consider him a front-runner for anything other than popularity. I hear him off key or ‘pitchy’, too much. Considering singers like Michael Johns and Carly Smithson are consistently DEAD ON with their vocals, it’s hard for me to appreciate David as anything other than a nice, cute kid with a good voice. However, I do look forward to hearing from a seasoned and more mature David. I’m sure he will grow into an incredible performer.

- Posted by andrew padua

He is by far the best one there. I love the rocking nurse, though, too! I am a nurse and every nurse I know is voting for her each week. But I sitll think David A. will win.

- Posted by Jane

So he had some troubles remembering some of the lyrics… most people have NO idea how stressful it can be to perform in front of that many people, in SUCH a high pressure situation. I feel like I have some concept of what he’s going through because of my own experience in international violin competitions before critical audiences and judges, both in the concert hall and the blogosphere. There has been SO much buzz about how he’s a shoo-in to win, and I can only imagine how much pressure that must put on him to perform his very best. So many factors could have contributed to his difficulties - but what cannot be argued is his incredible talent, musicianship, and star quality. He is a fantastic singer, and a great kid and a sure cut above many of the other singers on the show this season. Let’s be kind in our comments about this young person with so much to offer - and look forward to his performance next week! Keep it up, David! DON’T BE DISCOURAGED!!!!!

- Posted by Celeste

Despite last night’s slip up, David Archuleta is still the front runner. No question. No other contestant has performed as well overall. Every single one of them has had a bad night.

- Posted by Eric

He had an off night. Even the pros have off nights. Archuletta is still the guy to beat.

- Posted by Sandy

Hey! David will most definity still be the next american idol!! With all the loyal fans he has supporting him they won’t let him down just because of one little mistake. Everyone makes mistakes and in my opinion he looked very cute when he made the mistake!! Lol so Don’t worry David! You are amazing and everyone knows it! Besides, why listen to Simon? I don’t see him on stage singing! haha I am awed by the awsomeness in David’s voice and his personality makes him all the better! He deserves it and he knows what he is doing! He will defintily go far with his singing career! I am most honestly one of your number one fans!! I love you David! You are the best singer I have ever heard!! Keep up the fantastic work!

- Posted by KristenLuvsArchuleta

Let’s not forget, the playing field is not even…Simon….David Arch is the only contestant still in the 11th grade…meaning he does 3 hours of school work with a tutor each day while the other contestants get to practice.

I’ve read that the younger contestants in the past still did homework, took exams, did book reports all while trying to keep up with the added AI responsibilities of being in the top 12. (Like those musicals and the car commercials)

Plus, hello! why make the youngest kid go last on such a big night? What a stupid thing to do to the kid!

- Posted by Lorri

Of course David will work it out. He is truly a gifted singer with a terrific voice. It’s so pure and soulful. I, too, am in love with him for what he is as a whole person, and I’m not a lovestruck teen, either. He is exceptionally mature for his age and talented to the nth degree. I voted for him continuously yesterday because I’ve already seen his ability and strengths. And I agree that the judges counsel you one way one week and do an about face and criticize you the next for taking their counsel. Also, the bickering is very rude and tiresome. This is my first time watching Idol (only because David A. is on it, and he is the BEST by FAR) and this squabbling is getting old. I hope they cut it out and focus on helpful suggestions for the contestants. GO DAVID A.!!!

- Posted by GK

Do a google search for idol contestants who had lousy performances and what happened?…they won the whole thing. Taylor Hicks had more than one or two bad runs and well, enough said. And no really thought what’s her name from last year would make it as far as she did. I really think that the producers…and especially Simon…are afraid David’s popularity, though there is no comparison to the laughable circus frenzy, will become another Sanjaya (spelling) where no one from pre-teens and pedifiles will vote for him. The guy has a natural talent that isn’t forced or fake. I personally can’t stand the other guy that did the Lionel Richie song. If you listen closely he was flat in most of his performance last night. I think Randy Jackson is slight tone deaf especially if he liked Alyesa (spelling) who got booted off last week. Is it just me or did anyone else notice she sang through her nose?

- Posted by russ

Give the kid a break. he is under a huge amount of pressure. Do not forget he has been sick and not once has he played the pity card and complained about having strep throat. Also keep in mind that he has to go to school 3 hours every day. No one else has too. he will pull it together!

- Posted by mparker

To Alex Hossler, thanks so much for saying that. People need to realize that he’s only 17, and he had less than a week to learn the song when he wasn’t even familiar with it. He’s trying really hard and I bet most people don’t even have the guts to get up there and sing on NATIONAL tv. So, to people who are all anti-Archuleta, please, GET OFF HIS BACK. He’s a really good singer and doesn’t deserve all this bashing.

I love you David! I hope you win AI!

- Posted by Mrs. Archuleta

He is still amazing singer in this competition. I think he is still a winner.

- Posted by yeon

Seriously. David A forgets the lyrics and the whole world turns upside down? Lets not forget the one chick that tried to turn “8 days a week” into a country song. THAT was a train wreck.

AND — No offense to any of the piano chicks fans.. (the carly simon wannabe) but… her voice was all kinds of thrown during let it be. Vocally it was on par with rocker chick.

Jason Castro definatly had the best performance in my opinion. Well along with that Carly chick.

The real deal is that — David A. STILL has the ONLY number one spot according to DialIdol.com. That is no fluke. He IS the frontrunner, and it’ll take alot more MESSING UP to screw that up. If he can. At this point I would think he has to TRY to lose in order to do so.

- Posted by jenni

okk now u guys are saying that hsi not good at all, oh please he will be the next american idol he has my vote because of a little mistake u guys are making big out of it, his 17 years old his to young to listen to tha kind song i really don’t know any songs of the beatles, i don’t listen to that kinda crap but he did a really good job and he still has my vote he was amazing, and i love him so much, by the way my name is kady and i’m 15 years old =]. David if u are reading this i want to tell u that u are strong than anything else it’s your choice to make mistakes and singing, u are amazing and that everyone loves u.. rumers doesn’t count remember when u sang imagine that was the most beautiful singing i ever heard soo good luck i have your back i love u david archuleta

- Posted by Kady

David Archuleta is the best by far, there is no question about it.

There are probably so many reasons that caused his little screw-ups yesterday. First of all, there is so much pressure on him to do the best as he is seen as the “front-runner” or the favourite to win the entire competition. Second, to perform in front of millions and millions of people on a whole new stage is nerve-racking! And lastly, American Idol has probably been his dream since he was a little boy. There were probably so many thoughts running through his head that he just couldn’t concentrate on the performance.

I really hope he learns from last night! I wish I could vote for him .. but it’s AMERICAN Idol and we can’t vote from Canada. So if you’re American, VOTE VOTE VOTE for David A., and KEEP VOTING OFTEN AS YOU CAN, don’t take your voting powers for granted =D

- Posted by RC

OMG! one mistake form david and he is automatically not the frontrunner! WTF? He is probably the best vocalist in this season. Just because he messed up a little, doesn’t make him the worst! He’s a 17 year old… how could he know the BEATLES songs? Like umm the BEATLES suck! i dont even know one song from them even after watching last nite’s AI. For me, this season is the wrost of all!! I mean David is the best one out of ALL the singers. And he is gonna win this all the way. When he was singing Imagine, that was the most beautiful performance he have! And you guys need to know that this week is the very last one that David is gonna mess up! OKAY so VOTE for DAVID!! Woooh! DAVID i love you!!

- Posted by ii Love David :]

COMPLETELY agree with Alex!
so the whole performance was a mess… as surprised as i was watching it, we really need to give him a break. he has done an exceptional job so far and simply messed up this week. the contestants only have one week to learn the song and make it their own. thats pretty tough.. not to mention he’s only seventeen. i’m seventeen and can barely remember a single trig function for math .. i cant even imagine doing what hes doing every week!
good luck david! =)

- Posted by Karina D.

Who cares if David Archuleta messed up the lyrics to a song. I didnt even notice. In fact, i think David put his own spin on the song. But who cares if he did mess up. He incredibley adorable and he will go all the way.

- Posted by Rebecca

Rebecca, how could you not notice? His facial expression during his mess-ups were ridiculously revealing, even if you didn’t hear them. I think he was wayyy too nervous to even think about putting his own spin on the song. Maybe his forgetting the lyrics could be interpreted as artistic interpretation…

Also, to those saying to give him a break because he’s the only one still in school, three hours a day is not significant enough to excuse not knowing the lyrics.

But, Rebecca, you are right. He is INCREDIBLY adorable and will win because of said adorability.

- Posted by Sara

Heh, he got overconfident knowing his rabid fanbase would support him even if he sucked. Forgot the lyirics three times, horrible performance othewise. . .

The sad thing is it won’t hurt him. Makes a mockery of the competition.

- Posted by Chad

First of all who ever writes this…..WHAT DO YOU KNOW! David Archuleta hasn’t lost his place in this compitition! If you didn’t notice David was still BETTER than half the compitition in his mess up. His voice is dynamic, mature, passionate, and sensitive. Plus the boy is seventeen, give him a break. He messes up once and the media or middle aged still living at home low lifes (like you) tear him apart? Come on…you know jack because you have NEVER done it. WALK WHAT YOU TALK! David you are a wonderful singer, don’t lose confidence and show them what there workin’ with. seriously SCREW YOU!!!!

- Posted by Fawn

Of course everybody makes mistakes. That is the inevitable universal truth. But one thing is sure - David has his fans behind him. Remember the famous adage, success is getting up every time you fall. He will definitely be able to get up from this one night mess as Simon called it. The good thing is - we will be watching out how he is going to be better out of this. It is always comforting that we have our weak spots, yet the strengths will always be the mark of who we are. And I truly believe David Archuleta will make it to the top. Even without winnning it, he is already a winner - touching lives of many people and when he becomes the winner - he will even have the taste of greater success, even with the memory of one bad night in his performance. We all learn from our mistakes, remember. And come to think of it, he might have earned more votes than ever because people have compassion and understanding to a great guy like him. More power to you David and never, never, never give up!!! Win the battle!

- Posted by Deanna

Hey guys…

Anyone who’s outside of the US who wants to vote for this guy… try Skype. http://www.skype.com.. I voted over 50 times last night. Another choice is http://www.dialidol.com… both should work.. for skype.. identify your country as the US. Peace out! The guy’s gonna be better next week. I can assure u of that.

Frankly, it’s pretty sad that the only way for the other contestants to actually win the title is if David messes up this bad. The only thing THAT proves is that just based on talent alone, David wins hands down. Considering he’s only 17 and not familiar with the Beatles, has had strep throat for the whole week, and is living up the high expectations of everyone as well as being singled out by the other contestants as the one to beat, he took everything pretty well. He even apologized to Randy for letting everyone down. Give the kid a break.

Remember David’s audition when he forgot the words to John Mayer’s “Waiting on the World”? He still made it through and he’ll make it through this situation as well. Many professional singers/musicians forget lyrics or play wrong licks when they perform live. Even if he doesn’t win AI, he’ll be able to continue his musical career. In my opinion, he’ll be more successful than any other former AI winners or contestants.

David Archuleta is very young and very inexperienced and not the best singer on the show. That being said, his fan base is apparently gonna keep him in good stead for awhile, but if he keeps up these very bad mistakes, he could be in trouble very quickly.

- Posted by David Harper

Just a little FYI: Anyone who has been watching AI from the beginning knows that there have been some sicknesses thrown around (remember Seyesha?) I have it from a close source that David has a pretty bad case of strep throat. Anyone who has ever had this KNOWS how it can affect a persons well being as well as their ability to function on a normal level. Think of all the numerous entertainers who have canceled tour dates due to “Extreme Fatigue.” Only this poor kid is fighting for his chance of a life time and can’t call in sick. Just goes to show how human he is and I think we’d all do some good in cutting these guys some slack! After all, we KNOW he’s good.

I’m not here to bash people for their opinions or put down any contestant who isn’t my favorite. I’m here to say that I’m 48 and I adore David Archuleta. I was one of those folks who dialed frantically on Tuesday night to keep him in the show, because I’ve seen an unusual level of talent in him and I love his voice.

I’ve heard from several sources (folks who attended rehearsals) that David did well with that song in rehearsal. He simply melted down on stage Tuesday night, and if you’ve never had a similar experience you are quite lucky. He is 17 and under tremendous pressure … more than the others (schooling, keeps being told he’s the frontrunner, age).

I can’t wait to hear what he does next week. Bet he nails it.

I think that David will pick it up and do alot better the next time. Give him a break!! He’s only seventeen and he wasn’t familiar with the song. He has the most amazing voice and he is sooooooooooooooooo……………adorable!!!!! I think that he should win this competition because he is a billion times better than anyone else in it!!!!!!!!!

- Posted by Traci

first off im from england:)
i think david is amazing, best male singer on AI since elliot yamin, being 17 i could not imgaine goin up on the stage doin that every week!
i went to a gig last week (kate nash-big in england) and she fluffed up her lines!
so what?! no one is perfect, especially singing songs that are unfamiliar to you

david is brilliant and has a raw talent

gay jabs: cant a good looking bute boy have a good voice without someone being jelous and labelling him gay? no!

david A to win (vote for me as i cant!)

love from england!

>>To make matters even weirder, Archuleta said he…“wasn’t too familiar with the songs.” Seriously.<<
What kind of nonsense is this? How familiar are you with Frank Sinatra’s 194os repertoire? David A. is a truly wonderful intuitive musician who, at the age of 17, already possesses quite specific tastes and knows what he likes, and can deliver it. He also possesses most honest approach to performance of anyone on that stage. He is only lacking in chronological time accrued!

David Archuleta & the Media:

Wow… the media LOVED David Archuleta at 1st…

but Wow, how they LOVE to pounce on the ones they love when they fall… they were WAITING for him to fall, and hated seeing “Great Archuleta”…

They pretty much pushed him into sucking if you ask me, as long as he’s reading all the stuff we & the media are posting.. many people hate David for the very reasons we love him… so.. screwed if u do, screwed if you don’t..

However, David will have to get used to being picked on, get used to media pressure, paparazzi, etc… He’s probably intrigued by glitz/glammer, but I wonder if he knows the dangers of fame?
Oh well, I love David, I’ll enjoy his music even after idol,
and as long as he stays true to himself, works hard, and remembers what’s important in life, he’ll be fine…

Don’t become a male Britney spears david!

- Posted by Jenny

OMG u guys are tripping over one mistake that david did what is wrong with u people dont tell me u never forgotten the lyrics to a song before and besides he confess that he was not familiar with the sings david is still the best. And besides even he does not win he is going to became a star and everyone will love him not only because he is cute hot and young but because he has amazing vocals anhe will always be remember he will come next week and better because he is still the best and he has something that the other contestants have he is love by the girls because he is super cute, hot and as girl love his smile

Yes, David did mess up, and he knew it was coming, but why do people have to make it such a big deal? Shouldn’t they support him and saying things like, ‘Good luck, David, we still believe in you’? I mean, everyone knows he’s the most liked, so why are they trying to make people against him? I still want him to win, no matter how many times he messes up. He will be great.

He is the most amazing young man. What talent. He is so humble and yet so wonderful. He listens to what the judges say and does great with even the not so nice things.

- Posted by lorelei

David rocks and one f up does not a loser make. He’s 17 why would he know the Beatle’s catalog. Hellooo.

David’s is STILL THE FRONTRUNNER with over 10M votes out of 29M cast on Tuesday.

Go to DAVID ARCHULETA’s FAN BLAST

it’s signed, sealed and delivered.

Remember, this is a contest based on voter calls and David’s Fan Base is unbelievable…

Like I said… it’s all there!

Nichola is so quick to judge. I think this was a calculated move on his part. It only makes him more human and more likable. I think he has time to coast in the next 2 weeks and then he’s going to blow your socks off. He’s going to be it yo!

- Posted by edvin

A lot of teenaged girls on here are saying it’s not a big deal that he does not know the Beatles and the Beatles suck anyways. Can I just remind everyone that his stellar performance two weeks ago, “Imagine”, was written and sung by a Beatle, John Lennon. So I guess it’s ok to know the Beatles if he does well, but not if he totally screws up. Grow up, people. You teenage fans and him need to grow up and realize that as a singer, there is no excuse for not learning a song in a week. That’s his job. It’s a competition for a record deal. Take it seriously or move out. End of story.

- Posted by Kat

hi, im a fan of David Archuleta, I still believe he’s still the one to beat,he still has the best voice among them.

I’m from the Philippines and unfortunately can’t vote, so, young boys and girls from America, pls vote for him.

- Posted by sarah

I am a David A. fan and the parent of two children near David’s age. My younger daughter has been a Beatles fan for a while, only because her music teacher did an entire unit on the group. My older daughter, very near David As age, is a huge music lover. Huge. She only ‘discovered’ the Beatles after the recent “Across the Universe” movie. Her dad and I are fans but you know those teens and their ‘tudes: if my mom likes it, it can’t be good. There’s a lot of music out there. Give the kids a break for not recognizing what is undoubtedly a legendary band. They’d probably have discovered them eventually.

- Posted by Kathy

This guy is a gold mine for the recording business. A cute face, attitude and a great voice that millions of young girls (and some boys) adore. Whether he wins are not it will not effect his singing career in the future.

I would love to have 1% of the take!

- Posted by Maleko

okay, so seriously, give the dude a break. It’s not like he messed up and just stopped center stage. He did keep going! He’s so amazingly gorgeous too. But besides his outrageous voice, it’s his humble attitude that really catches me. He’s not all like “I can sing, I’m on American Idol, I’m the best”. He knows that it’s a competition. Let’s just say we’ll all be seeing David Archuletta singing on the finale of American Idol! That’s all :)

- Posted by leeann

AMERICAN IDOL AND FOX FIVE KNOW THAT BY REMOVING DAVID FOR ANY REASON WOULD LOWER THEIR RATING BY MILLIONS..AND GUESS WHAT,,, DISNEY WOULD HIRE HIM IN A MINUTE,, WITH NO HESITATION…….

- Posted by Z

Ok well this is for Kat.
umm how many times have you forgotten something?
yeah.
thats what i thought.
He made a fricken mistake.
the only one hes made all season.
so you can just stop talking and then everyone will be happy.
David is amazing and im sure wayyyy more mature than you will ever even think of being.
As you said he did sing “Imagine” perfectly.
No one could ever sing it better than he did so no mistake can ever take that away.
He is still the front runner in American Idol and will be for the whole competition i am predicting.

- Posted by Alex Hossler

I think it’s hard to remember that all the American Idol contestants are human. David was probably performing on the biggest stage of his life- I’d be scared to death too. He’ll get used to it. My friend’s sister went to the rehearsal taping and said he did great and didn’t forget the lyrics. He was obviously extremely nervous. He also had strep throat last week.
I think all the AI contestants are extremely talented. They wil all have their off days-it’s called being human. Whether or not he wins AI, I David has a large fan base and I think he will be successful.
Remember, he is more than 10 years youonger than some people on the show, and it’s natural for him to be nervous.

- Posted by Dani

Wow!

I didn’t realize that out of 29 million votes tuesday night David received 10 million of them. That has to be unprecedented especially for someone who had an off night. I guess his fan base panicked and went wild voting for him basing everything on his prior track record. He truly is a gifted person and has such a luvable personality how can you not like him?

It is also nice to see this blog has intelligent constructive and mature comments about David. There is another Archuleta blog out there that is an absolute nightmare that I have decided not to go to anymore since it has gotten way out of hand with the most absurd comments.

Anyhow David… keep on truckin and don’t ever give up singing … you are an absolute gift to the world.

Canada has your back!

- Posted by Mike

i think this performance was for a reason; now he is gonna work twice as hard and he’s gonna own it!!! this way its not like he’s gonna lose momentum like they were predicting..he’s gonna have to climb back to the top WHICH HE WILL…he’s not going for a long time!!! and i hate chikeze. david archuleta is gonna own it on tuesday and then EVERYBODY is gonna love him again. even if he gets voted off american idol..i swear they are gonna lose so much ratings and he comes out with a CD its gonna ROCK THE BILLBOARDS. i have a feeling about this..haha its like i have espn? hahahah

- Posted by Alejandro

david will keep on rockin’ and he did not save chikeze! i wil mail this to both of them! so i hope u feel bad! The bottom three WILL be David C, David A, and Carly! David forgot the words! SO WHAT??? We have had alot of great idols forget the words!!! And david will be around for a while so watch out! We got ur backs guys!

- Posted by Anonymous

I mean, everyone loves him. If you don’t, someone’s gotta knock some sense into you.

- Posted by Megan

david is still the best idol ever, and always will be. everyone makes mistakes. he’ll bounce back on Tuesday. his performance was still great even after he messed up.

- Posted by vanessa

Omg!! Well, (4 those who missed it on thursday) david archuleta DID NOT go home on thursday… not that I thought he waz going 2. I LOVE HIM!!!! He has SUCH a good voice! I love singing myself, and I know talent when I see it (im only 13), but I, like, voted for him four times. (On other peoples fones including mine…) David will make a HUGE comeback, and every1 will LUUUUUUVVVV it!
