“Give back” those two minutes of our lives, David Cook!
Oh no he didn’t. Unfortunately, oh yes he did.
Rocker David Cook bombed on “American Idol” Tuesday night with an unfamiliar song and cocky performance that made it seem like he believed he had already wrapped up the competition.
Cook chose “Innocent,” a song by Canadian alternative rock band Our Lady Peace, to sing on a night when contestants were told to choose music that inspires them. The night’s theme was intended as a preview for “Idol Gives Back,” the show’s charity special that airs on Wednesday.
Cook, wearing a white military-style jacket, strutted around without his signature guitar, finally sauntering through the audience while he sang. But judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell were decidedly uninspired, with Cowell calling it “a teensy weensy bit pompous.” Only Paula Abdul liked it.
To make a bad performance even worse — cringe-worthy, in fact – Cook ended it by raising a palm scrawled with the words “give back” up to the cameras. The judges praised him for that move, but Cook already appeared completely deflated after their criticisms of the performance.
It was clearly a rude awakening for Cook, who has become a favorite with the show’s fans in the last few weeks.
Another weak performance was Irish diva Carly Smithson’s take on Queen’s “The Show Must Go On.”
Smithson, who had a stellar run on the show at the beginning of the season, is clearly struggling. Cowell, who called her performance “angry,” said she may even be vulnerable to elimination this week. If that does happen, Smithson would be going home before Kristy Lee Cook, the leggy blonde country singer who has narrowly escaped the hatchet for several weeks running.

I am a Canadian fan who, unfortunately, does not have the privelege of voting every week. I can’t tell you what a thrill it was to hear David cover an Our Lady Peace song. The song couldn’t have been more appropriate or sincere. Every week David brings it and last night was no exception. He’s not only the most talented contestant on AI EVER, but he seems to have a lot of integrity. I will support his career in music whether he wins or not.
For those of you who are dumb enough not to understand why he picked this song: The lyrics in the song go something like this,”He wished he’d never heard of cancer, and that god would give him some answers,… Anyone not know this song was for his brother who has cancer. Listen some Canadian bands like Our Lady Peace, Big Wreck, Nickelback, … these bands inspire this lad.
Canada Loves David Cook
David Cook did not come off as cocky, and whether or not the song was un-recongnized, he still did a fabulous job. The “Give back” on his hand was NOT cringe worthy, and his jacket looked very nice on him. Do any of you people know about music and talent, or are you all just battling the popularity contest, really?
This absolutely was not his best performance, but all great artists take a small step back and then move right back in to forward motion.
As for David’s “signature guitar” – what the hell are you talking about… he’s used it…. hm, maybe twice.. If anyone can’t get their stupid guitar off stage it’s Jason Castro, who has little talent, a pretty voice and is only still on the show because a bunch of teeny boppers want in his pants. As for Kristy Lee Cook, she should’ve been gone long ago too, little talent, very attractive. REDICULOUS!!
Even if David were cocky, he’s got a reason to be, he’s amazing. He’s a fully rounded musician, amazing vocals, great style, he plays an instrument which only few on this season can do, and he knows his stuff. David Cook is the real deal.
I have been a fan of David Cook since the very beginning. He is an amazing singer and musician!! I believe he is the whole package for American Idol. His family should be extremely PROUD of him. What an OUTSTANDING individual!!! I look forward to following him in his career, listening to his music and hopefully meeting him one day.
I thought David did a good job of the song “innocent”. Also, by performing a song from a Canadian band, he gained more fans in Canada. Many Americans fail to see that there are many great Canadian artists. Thank-you David for acknowledging our Canadian talent!!
He is not arrogant and he wasn’t playing his guitar
David Cook has incredible talent and I agree with many comments posted here (all the positive ones)!! Last night was not his best but I’m sure he’ll be around for many weeks to come.
I predict Archuleta vs. David Cook in the final 2.
I think that people really need to just keep some comments to themselves. They need to just like shut their mouths and quit bad talking other people.
Unsurprisingly, the critics of David Cook on this thread actually sound educated and intelligent; the David Cook fans have literally to offer but internet lingo (“OMG I LUV HIM) and childish insults.
If you’re a perceptive person, it’s obvious that David Cook is a pompous douchebag. He’s utterly transparent. Fortunately for him, the majority of Americans are dense and easy to manipulate.
I definitely think that David C. is the best singer on Idol this season. As far as him being pompous, I’ve never noticed him being anything but gracious. As said before, at least he doesn’t argue with the judges. And let’s face it, there have been people in the past who have sucked and stayed on the show until near the end. Also, I have no interest in David A., and will be sorely disappointed if he wins.
calling this song unfamiliar is just rediculous…it’s always been one of my favorite songs and it has a great message, which is why he didn’t. i think he is the least arrogant of them all.
David Cook has been amazing from the very start. He’s not cocky and arrogant as Simon says… its called confidence folks! He’s the WHOLE package, his jacket looked awesome, maybe not his best performance but certainly good. Idol is starting to sound rigged! And who has not heard of that song he sung?? Are you kidding me? What, do you Americans only listen to American artists on the radio?? Gimme a break, its a popular song. David Cook has had my vote since the very beginning. Archuletta can ONLY sing a certain way and style and has no charisma and uniqueness at all. And he forgot his words. If he wins because of a popularity vote instead of unique talent I’m off Idol for sure! Either way David Cook will be another Daughtry!
GO DAVID GO!! You sexy thang!!
I was so impressed to hear David Cook sing a great song from a great Canadian band (being that I am a proud Canadian myself). Liked Cook before, like him more now. Thanks David from your fans to the north. Rock on!
Wow MEG, if you hadn’t noticed, 90% of the people backing david didn’t use internet lingo and “OMG I LUV HIM” was not something at all that I read. He’s not arrogant, but you certainly are… You must be used to rejection.
I never watched Idol until I accidentally caught David Cook’s performance of Billy Jean while channel surfing. I was blown away by his voice. I went to youtube and watched his past performances and then went to iTunes and purchased a few of his recordings. I’ve now been following Idol and I sincerely hope David Cook wins just so I don’t have to wait 2 years to buy his records. I donated to Idol Gives Back and that would never have happened if not for my being reeled in by David’s talent. I’ve never been motivated to post comments online but I just can’t get over the nasty things being said about him as a person. You don’t have to like his music style or his voice or his song choice – make fun of those all you want – that’s within the limits. But what’s beyond the limits is publicly posting nasty comments about him as a person – especially when you’ve never met the man. Do you ever stop to think that David himself would read your comments? And be hurt by them? Would you say these things to his face if he were standing in front of you? I truly doubt it as I’ve yet to meet anyone who is that mean-spirited. I don’t know David Cook but I do know he has one of the most amazing voices I’ve heard in a long time. All the contestants are good but, in my opinion, David Cook is better and I can’t wait for him to hit the charts. Stick by him Ben – you’re a good friend.
Um, Meg, I think what you meant to say was “little to offer”. And, in my humble opinion, I believe the use of the word douchebag is reserved for the “dense and easy to manipulate of the world”. Where does that leave you?
Maybe a little fiber would help…
Moderator, I apologize. I am all about David Cook. If anyone needs to ask why..I am glad they don’t know. A filter. For fools.
Anyone who describes David Cook as ‘pompous, arrogant and manipulative’ needs to Windex their television screen. Can you not see that David Cook is an intelligent guy – a self-described ‘word-nerd’ – and an amazingly talented musician?
I actually liked his performance the other night. If nay-sayers look past the white blazer (most likely recommended by the show’s stylist) and the lack of guitar, they’ll see a sincere guy who walked into the audience for no other reason that to connect.
I felt bad for him when he was shot down by Simon and Randy. They are so unpredictable that it makes one wonder about the integrity of the show and the voting tabulations.
Was I the only one who felt that David was channeling Bono when he opened the palm of his hand to reveal the ‘give back’ message? I thought it was wonderful. Afterall, the theme of the show was ‘inspiration’ in order to motivate the public to donate for the charity show.
David Cook will be a huge star (like Daughtry) whether or not he wins American Idol.
Pompous, arrogant = David Cook? I think not. I have been a fan of his since day one, and I pride myself on seeing his potential and demeanor since then (I even predicted that he would sing a Michael Jackson song, and lo! he did). Thank you to the people who know David personally and came to his defense as you are the best to give an opinion. Perhaps viewers should really observe a little more closely that he has never spoken about his family problems, he wore his orange band silently, he held back his tears at the end of his performance of Eleanor Rigby, he downplayed his hospital visit, the song “Innocent” spoke of cancer, he was crying during the clip about the orphaned African sisters last week, he came through the crowd so that he could be close to the camera to show his hand, he made fans take his brother’s autograph along with his in tribute to him, he is always so serious on elimination nights, but claps with his hands raised high in salute to every other performer. Tell us Jill, who do you like? And what have you cried for other than the series end of the Simple Plan with Paris Hilton? When I look at David I see someone who is soo passionate about music, he looks like he wants to cry when he does not get a good review. On the other hand when he does well and looks happy, confident and relaxed, he is somehow smug? I don’t get it. I would be too if I gave up my college career to be a bartender to follow my dream. His family backing alone speaks for itself what a nice guy he is. Simon is such a hypocrite; he tells Carly she needs to start dressing like a star and when David does it, its blasphemy? Much love to you David from Canada. I feel your passion every time you sing. Hollywood can get to people’s head, but I don’t see that with you, and hopefully it will not happen.
I personally think David Cook Rocks. I just told my daughter he is the only idol member I would actually pay to see in concert. I do not think there is anything arrogant about him. We try to teach our youth to be confident to like yourself and when someone does we call them arrogant or egotistical. No wonder the youth of today are so confused. We tell them one thing and then condemn them for it. Be Proud David Cook!!
Some might have found David C’s choice of song obscure…those of us who know of OLP know that he did a TERRIFIC job with the song (the 20-somethings in the crowd!). Simon definitely chose the wrong word when he described his performance as “pompous” and sure ate his words after he found out that David had the words “give back.” written on his LEFT hand (whose handwritting was that? we know you’re a lefty!).
Simon, after going on Larry King Live and admitting that David is his favorite to win the competition probably felt that being “impartial” meant tearing him down this week. Then there’s Randy, who has to prove himself as intelligent this year by giving negative reviews (I have read the study where people giving negative reviews, regardless of how wrong, were perceived as smarter than those giving dead-on positive reviews).
David C. is the most talented Idol contestant EVER! He is so genuine and intense.
Thank you, David, for brining music back into my life. I have bought every single one of your Idol singles as well as Analog Heart and will buy anything you release, Idol or not! However, I see how much you want to win by how you approach each of your performances and will continue to vote for you like crazy!
Ok having read all the comments…I have to agree with most of them. I’m from Sri Lanka and David Cook has a lot of fans there…he’s very talented and yes everyone has their bad nights but that certainly doesn’t make them ‘pompous’ and I think Simon Cowell using the word ‘pompous’ on someone else is a bit rich! David Cook has the best stage presence and talent from any talent contest I have seen so far…his performances are as great as Leona Lewis was on X-Factor in the UK (and see how far she’s come). David Cook can go on to be a huge success and I sincerely hope he wins because I’m tired of people like David Archuleta (who have great voices but no ‘presence’) win. I hope people will remember how consistent David Cook has been before they vote. Someone who should go home should be Kirsty Lee Cooke..now that is someone who is pompous and who has no talent but is obviously kept on because of her looks.
American Idol is a sort of joke anyway…and we shouldn’t forget the greatest singers/bands of all time never got famous through talent contests…it was just hard work and publicity. David Cook is experiencing both the publicity and the hard work right now and I’m pretty sure that even if he doesn’t win he’ll go on to be a huge success like Daughtry. I, for one, would definitely buy his CD. Rock on David Cook and keep doing what you do!!
I am ready to buy David’s CD now. His voice stands out compared to the rest. He is gonna be a star whether he wins Idol or not. He is the main reason I even watch the show. I look forward to hearing him more than anyone else. True, his last performance wasn’t his best, but I think he was trying to do something different from everyone else. You are awesome David – looking forward to seeing what you come up with next week!
Wow… this article is a great big pile of BS!
The only one coming across as arrogant (and perhaps a bit jealous) is the author of this crap!
David Cook is the only contestant who shows true talent, over and over again. He’s the only one who really gets the audience involved, the way he will when he starts to tour.
He has a slightly less-than-perfect performance and people are all over his case. How absurd!
Unfamiliar song?? That was a huge hit for Our Lady Peace… and was #1 for weeks… you need to expand your music tastes a bit.
And to insult his way of showing how much he cares about Idol Gives Back and what it means, shows that YOU have no idea about the act of ‘giving’.
Next time you decide to write an article…….. Don’t.
I’ve seen comments on David Cook ranging from “he’s got a belly” to “he’s losing his hair”…and let’s not forget “he’s stuck on himself”. I just know that all of the people who have issued these criticisms would be just fine hearing the same thing about themselves, right? How a person who has only seen the guy on TV can assault his personality that way just amazes me…
Maybe he is arrogant….maybe not. Point is, I can’t tell that from seeing him for 10 minutes a week on TV and neither can anyone else. He sings well, and he’s a good performer…better than most on there. I don’t invest myself so much in AI that I feel the need to pick just one person to support and then commence bashing all the rest. It’s a show, entertainment. By the time June rolls around, it’ll be over and the poor guy (who has put himself out there in a way that most people cannot) will still have thinning hair and a little thickness around the middle…but he’ll have more accomplishment than most people will ever know.
David Cook is not arrogant — how can you be arrogant or pompous singing a song! I can understand “afterwards” but “during” — all he’s doing is SINGING! yeesh. this is getting stupid.
Well, this is the FIRST time I have ever posted on the AI message boards. I actually can’t believe that so many people take the time to write such horrible things about another human being. Did you watch last night’s Idol Gives Back show? Do you realize how lucky we are to be living in a place where we can actually drink fresh water, go to bed every night without worrying about where our next meal will come from, or whether or not our parents or loved ones will die from AIDS? There are also people right here in this country homeless and struggling due to our current “recession” and you are trashing a talented person who had the guts to go for his dream? I think David Cook is a talented person, as are all of the other contestants this season. These people put it on the line every week after sometimes learning songs they don’t even know, while trying to “be original” and performing in front of millions of people watching. Talk about bravado, class, heart and talent! These individuals should be saluted for what each one of them brings to the competition. Don’t tear someone down for chasing their dream – we should all be so lucky……
For everyone who has taken the time to post on this blog…have you taken the time to donate to “Idol Gives Back”? Even one dollar makes a difference…
I donated to it.
The problem with David Cook is that he is a phony. Yes, he has talent and can deliver a good performance. His problem this week was a lousy song choice. What I don’t like about him him is that he stands there and let’s the judges shower him with compliments about his “original” versions of songs just to find out that he’s copying some one else. I think I would be compelled to admit that it wasn’t my arrangement but Cook just happily takes credit for it. He also acts like he has this competition sewn up.
I love reading all of your comments ( most of them ). It feels good to see all of the support that David is getting. Again,( being Canadian ) I can’t vote, so please all you posting here, vote doubly hard on our behalf. I have downloaded everything I could find by him onto my IPOD and it’s all I’m listening to. I’m obssessed!!!!!
I am very impressed at the way people on here have jumped to the defense of David Cook. It may not have been his best performance but the studio version has got to be his best studio from American Idol. Absolutely incredible. I am 100% positive that is how he ment the song to sound. It is not his fault that the sound crew messed up royally by having the miks of the backup singers on so loud as to drown out the singer. It happened to a few other contestants as well.
As to those of you who feel it necessary to bash his performance, I pity you. It is disgusting the way the author of this piece of garbage hung on every negative comment the judges made regarding David Cook AND Carly Smithson. Neither did a bad job performing their songs. The only crime is that they didn’t out perform themselves from past weeks. How can we expect every song to be performed perfectly?
And the worst part is that you are bashing people who are trying to do their best this week to inspire people to donate to a worthy cause. On a different forum I saw someone post that they wouldn’t donate because the performances sucked. Grow Up! What is America coming to when our acts of kindness are determined on whether we are impressed by the performances of those looking for our donations. Pitiful and disgusting.
Mountainpearl and Jody; Bravo! Well said!
David Cook did’nt give his best performance to date, but it wasn’t so bad as to deserve as all the criticism he’s been getting for it. If you listen to the words it’s clear why he chose the song and why he finds it insirational on a personal level. They were to chose songs that inspire them…what David Cook finds inspiration in is cleary different than what the Idol darling David A does…Two different styles and I’de personaly rather rock out to Mr. Cook than listen to any more david A fluff!
Rock on david…your fans got your back
Okay. Here I go. Batter up! I have posted this elsewhere, but I am saying it here too. There are many reasons I love David Cook. I think he is a terrific performer with an incredible voice! I have the Axium album, The Story Thus Far, and David solo project, Analog Heart. Amazing. The man has a true God-given gift. I have never been so touched by a musician. I connect with his voice, and with the heart I feel is behind it. If you doubt HIS sincerity, then you might as well doubt every one’s. It’s okay to show how much you care about a cause on the Idol gives back show, but not the night before? And on the Gives Back show, everyone there was there to boost their popularity, and advance their career? No. Of course not. But if David Cook does something, or makes a gesture of care it is not genuine? His “Give Back” on his hand, and his wearing of the orange bracelet is just a tactic to win votes? INSANITY! The man is living his dreams right now. He himself said, that he wants to enjoy the experience, not just experience it. And lately, he has been very sad and broken, but that is because of what is going on in his personal life! And the man STILL goes up on that stage, and stands up to the criticism, and possible ridicule. Simon said it right on Larry King. David Cook is fearless. I love him for many reasons, but the main reason I love him is that he is an inspiration. When my Mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, I put all of my dreams of being an actress on hold. I really wanted to make it happen, but the fear and the uncertainty of losing the most important person in my life just made me lose the strength and the will to try. When my Mother died, I let the will to fight for my dreams slip away. I will admit that I was a coward, and couldn’t find the strength to see my own passions realized. David Cook is living with that uncertainty and fear right now. But instead of being a coward, LIKE I WAS, and close himself off, and turn his back on the inner voice that tells you to go after your dreams, he surrenders to all the emotions that he is feeling, and he uses them! He is having a hard time of it, but he still refuses to give up. He’s fearless, and I would like to endeavor to be that strong. I will support David Cook is ALL of his creative endeavors. I think the bubble gum, pop prince and princess kids will end of winning in the end, and David Archuleta will be the American Idol. A shame, really. Don’t get me wrong, Archuleta has a beautiful voice, but I don’t “feel him” when he sings. I do feel David Cook when he sings. He said himself, he’s an open book. He wears his heart on his sleeve. He puts all of himself into every song, stands on the edge, and waits for the storm. I have much love and respect for David Cook. He’s a symbol of great talent and incredible strength. I must admit that when I first saw him, I thought he was so gorgeous that he made me forget my own name. But after listening to his amazing voice, and watching his character shine through under the pressures of the public attention, I see him as much more than a sexy man. His performances have shown that he has the talent and range to take on any song, and his actions and character have shown that he can take on the criticism as well. To you, David, you are not alone. Your family and friends will stand by your side. And as your fans, we will as well. Best of luck to you, Cookie Monster. You’re my Rockin’ Romeo!
I love David Cook, he has an enormous talent! He is the one that inspired me to donate last night.
I DO NOT think he is phony or pompous, he comes across as an intelligent guy and and a deep thinker.
He puts a lot of thought and work into his song choices, the song was very inspiring. He is my favorite
to win and has my vote.
I have watched since day 1 and I totally do not understand why anyone would call DC phoney, arrogant, or pompous. He seems like a very true, real person with a heart of gold and I have never gotten any other impression other than that he is honored to be there and humbled at how much people love him. He never, ever has a pompous look about him in anyway, he looks genuine, sincere…. He has an incredible voice and stage presence. Honestly, I think some people just got it wrong and when Simon said the word pompous he was VERY WRONG. It’s one of those cases where I think Simon really stuck his foot in his mouth. GO DAVID COOK!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!
What are you talking about? David is the best of any season of Idol. I actually liked his performance, but he has set the bar so high that, when he’s not terrific, everyone is ready to shoot him down. The man is a great talent and I hope he wins it all.

Why would someone write an article like this, except simply to be sensational (and wretched, in my opinion). I’ll gladly listen to 100 minutes of David Cook’s worst performances rather than 2 minutes of the BEST of any of the rest of them (David A. included). Pompous? Simon dares to call someone pompous? That’s just funny. “Hello, kettle, this is the pot–you’re black!” Yikes. Go, David–sing your heart out. I’ll be in line to buy whatever you put out when your AI journey is over. Oh, and I may, for the first time ever, actually go to the Idols tour–just because of you.
I have been watching American Idol since the season started. David Cook is the best and he deserves to win. Everyone has a bad day or two seriously don’t talk about him I would like you to go out there and try to sing like him. Well I know nobody can sing like him so yea. I think he is AWESOME not phoney, pompous or arrogant. I totally agree with Tarra. He does have a good heart you can tell. His personality shows through his performances and he is dealing with his brother with cancer to. So give the guy a break. I love him! I think he should win!! If he doesnt I’m not sure who is good enough to beat him fairly. DAVID COOK IS THE BEST!!!!!!!
David Cook was not my favorite at the beginning. Yes, I liked him, but he was not my favorite. The week he sang “Hello” was the week I absolutely fell in love with him. Week after week, he continued to be amazing. I know that some of the arrangements were not his own, but he still sang beautifully. I did not know “Innocent” very well, so I listened to Our Lady Peace’s version. When I watched David’s performance again, it sounded just as good as OLP’s. I have watched his performance about 5 times now and each time I like it more and more. I do not see how he was pompous, and I thought that David looked hot in the white jacket. The “Give Back” written on his hand was a nice gesture that, I know, inspired many people to donate. But finally, and most importantly, American Idol is a competition about SINGING. I am not naive, I know that popularity has something to do with it, but in the end, the winner has to be an amazing singer. To put it simply, David Cook can sing. He is the most talented singer there, based off of just the American Idol performances. I have also listened to his entire solo album and I have heard some songs by other bands he was in. From this I have concluded that he will get a record contract and be successful in the music industry no matter what happens on Idol. This does not mean that his fans can just sit back and relax. If you are a David Cook fan (like me), please vote. Together we can, hopefully, make him the next American Idol.
David cook is THE best on the show, but…the rest are very talented also and he has to keep his game up. I didn’t think the problem was song choice or pompous attitude, rather the back up singers were carried away and drowned out David. thei flat sounds drowned out his beautiful full tones and ruined the song…so the problem in my opinion was “arrangement”. So not fair to David.
To Mandy Allen – At least David gave credit where credit was due. Chris Daughtry copied a copy with “Walk the Line” and I remember being blown away by his creativity until I learned that it was a cover of someone else’s version. Katherine McPhee knocked everyone’s socks off with her version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and NEVER to the best of my knowledge acknowledged that it was a cover of Eva Cassidy’s awesome rendition. Yes, they all do it. Jason Castro did it this week too. I’d rather hear them sing a copy of a copy and do it creatively & well than have them sound like an exact copy (like Michael Johns with Bohemian Rhapsody) or do a so-so version of a Whitney Houston or Fantasia song. David can keep up the “copying of copies” as far as I’m concerned. He does it well!!
Alright – if you haven’t heard the song “Innocent” then you can’t be much of a music critic – seriously – an unfamiliar song? So unbelievably ignorant. How can you deny his talent? Before you go shooting your face off next time, you should learn a little bit about David and the heartfelt things he does – the orange bracelet that he wears for example!
Though I was pretty unimpressed with David Cooks most recent performance, I think his his history of stellar performances is so much more important than one bad week. He should absolutely make it to the top three, and in my opinion, win the whole thing. Im a huge fan of his, and I cant wait to see what he has for us next week.
I’m from India and it’s a pity that we can’t vote because pretty much everyone I know would vote for David Cook. What I find incredible is that he appeals to a completely diverse strata – both age-wise and musically. I’m a huge fan of his, as is my Mum, and my Grandma as well! In terms of my age-group (mid-twenties)… my friends and colleagues normally listen to electronica … and we love him. Proof enough that this guy could appeal to just about anyone.
My prayers are with him and his family. My grandfather has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer; I understand how rough this is for him…
I enjoy David Cook’s performances. I do not want to watch on stage someone who’s not confident enough to be up there. Someone who thinks he or she owns me to be up there and who’s relying on “humbleness” to get votes. I do not watch the show to “see humble people” I watch the show because I want to see talent, and he’s got plenty of it. He’s prepared himself and knows what he’s doing and I admire that.
Is this Slam DC week? David Cook had one bad week. His voice usually cuts right through you, but was overpowered by the backup singers. If he was all that pompous he would have demanded a different mix. Jason was great last night, but like Brooke and Michael, he was born 30 years too late for his music style. Carly looked angry, as usual, although she has an incredible radio voice. Two weeks ago everyone was slamming DC for plagiarism. These people have 48 hours to select a song & arrangement, before rehearsals begin. DC is by far the best at understanding who he is and what works for him – that makes him unique and original compared to others. Yeah Jill, I’m over 12 (+50), but I know real talent when I hear it. Fergie seems arrogant but is one of the most talented performers out there today, so give DC a break. I bet you were a Sanjaya fan.
I am not understanding why Simon has labeled David Cook as arrogant an pompous. He has been saying that quite often about him. As I see it David is just trying to give a good performance. Every time David has come out during vote off he has never acted like he was safe, but seems to be very nervous and relieved when he is safe. I I think Simon’s opinion of him is totally wrong. If the viewers think that I think Simon has influenced the public. Well, I like him and hope he takes it. I would like to see someone who can actually make it big from the winner of American Idol like Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. I think he could do it.
