UPDATE!- “American Idol”: What was UP with Paula?

paula.jpgIn seven seasons of “American Idol,” Paula Abdul has definitely had her moments.

But her gaffe on Tuesday night’s episode was either the “Kookiest Paula Moment Ever” or a sign of the judges’ apparently not-so-spontaneous evaluations of contestants’ performances.

Abdul on Wednesday sought to explain the blunder as a simple misunderstanding. “We all just screwed up everything,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

It was Neil Diamond night, and after each of the show’s five remaining contestants sang their first of two songs for the evening, the judges were asked to comment on their performances.

Randy Jackson quickly rattled off his impressions, and then Abdul launched into a lengthy analysis of contestant Jason Castro’s two performances. Yes, that’s right. Abdul remembered TWO performances. When Castro, and all of the other contestants, had only performed ONCE.

“Oh my God, I thought you sang twice,” a flustered Abdul said when Jackson gently pointed out that Castro had only performed one song so far. She added: “This is hard!”

“You’re seein’ the future baby, you’re seein’ the future!” host Ryan Seacrest said.

Abdul tried to cover for the mistake by saying she had been reading her notes from both Castro’s performance and contestant David Cook’s performances.

The flub was enough to convince some fans that Abdul must have prepared her notes on both songs before the live performance.

On the “Idol” forums, some fans pondered whether the judges’ comments were a function of who the show’s producers want to win rather than the content of the performances. Others gave the show the benefit of the doubt, saying Abdul must have taken notes at the dress rehearsals

Abdul explained on Wednesday that Idol producers had thrown the judges a last minute curveball during the show.  “I am feverishly trying to write notes for every performance,” she recounted, saying her notes got mixed up.

“I was just trying to give my critique for Jason Castro, and scribbled Jason’s name, and that was David (Cook)’s. “This is live television. This is fun!,” she said.

I am not a Paula Abdul fan as I think she is just someone who tells everyone they sounded good, or they look good, or their dress is nice, she never really says that song was just awful. However, she most times doesn’t seem to know what she is talking about, and last night is an example.

Something stinks in Idol land!!! It has been obvious for the last several weeks that the producers of this show want Jason Castro out. Last night was simply more blatant evidence of that. TO REVIEW HIS SONG NEGATIVELY *BEFORE* HE EVEN PERFORMED…Doesn’t get much more obvious than that! There is speculation that she was basing it on his rehearsal performance but even if that is the case…shouldn’t the critiques be based on the ACTUAL SHOW PERFORMANCE?! After the stinging critique, Jason was forced to sit on stage for 3 minutes during a commerical break and then perform….I think he showed great courage and fortitude even getting through it. Then of course, all 3 judges got the opportunity to bash him yet again. Fully expect Jason to be eliminated tonight NOT because it’s necessarily what “America” wants but because it is totally what the producers of American Idol want.

The show obviously isn’t live . . . it wasn’t that Paula ‘remembered’ seeing a performance that hadn’t happened, it was that they had restructured the show and showed taped parts out of sequence. You could tell the way everyone tried to cover it up, that although Paula’s out of it, she had seen two performances already.

- Posted by George

I think Paula needs a change or we need a change from her. Somone should check what is in her coke cup. A lot of her comments don’t make and sense at all and once she called Syesha (BROOKE) I don’t know if anyone else caught that or not.

- Posted by sharon

Idol seems to be going down “fast.” Abdul sure isn’t helping with the program either!

- Posted by Tom

Anyone watching over the last two to three weeks, would have to be blind and deaf not to realise they were throwing Jason under the bus. The editing of Andrew Lloyd Webber clips, with him deriding his choice of song, before one note had been sung, you were expecting the worst. They have always portrayed him as dumb, even though I have seen interviews, when he really speaks well. They have edited them out and shown the worst parts of his clips. There is no way Paula can even begin to say it was David’s song she was speaking about, because for David Cook, she complimented him and yet for Jasons “apparent” second song, she said, he had lost his charm “word used by everyone to describe Jason”. It is obvious she was reading a script given to her by Nigel, but not meant to be read together. Jason has been very popular and they had to try and get rid of him to ensure their finale David A versus David C

- Posted by sheila

The fact that Paula critiqued Jason on his 2nd performance, before he even performed it is absurd. It proves that she does not even pay attention on the show, and had already planned on saying what she did despite his actual performance.
It’s so painfully obvious that all the judges are pushing for a David vs David Finale, no wonder the ratings are low because it’s becoming predictable.

- Posted by Leo

Everyone gets confused occasionally. Imagine everything those folks are tracking through the week to prepare for each show.

- Posted by Louis Sinclair

I don’t really care if it is scripted. The judges don’t vote. The people do. I’m sure she always writes down whatever fluffy piece of advice or criticism she has. Maybe she was confused. Maybe she saw it at a dress rehearsal. I don’t think that the producers are out to get Jason (not that he’s going to be able to win, in my opinion).

Brook is next to go anyway. Then Syesha, then Jason. After that, the final two is probably going to be David vs. David. (hopefully Cook takes it!)

Just my opinion.

She just made a mistake.

- Posted by cece

I think it’s time for a new judge. Paula needs to go.

- Posted by Marge B

I agree, mistakes happen.

- Posted by Jean

I knew some would love making fun of her as usual. She makes mistakes, don’t we all at times?

- Posted by Allen

This was not a simple mistake. Paula had pre-planned notes. She gave Jason Castro bad notes on his second song before he sang it - and no, I think the idea that she was critiquing David Cook is a very obvious bunch of garbage. Since what she said is that he lacked charm, a quality very much determined by the actual performance at the actual moment, her comment was not acceptable even as rehearsal notes.

Paula was reading from a script. They had already decided to give Jason Castro a poor review before he sang. And the most horrible part of it all is that after he was slammed for a song he had not sung, Jason had to sing - knowing that he was going to get slammed.

I’m not surprised he sang with so little fire and enthusiasm. This is the worst thing they’ve ever done to any contestant.

- Posted by Claire

the proof is in the pudding…..the show is rigged!

- Posted by beverly

I’ve had enough.

I’ve been more than annoyed by the robotic behavior of the plastic robot shills in the “Mosh Pit” (Please stop waving your hands back and forth because a producer told you to; please stop squealing and applauding whenever a singer holds a note more than fifty milliseconds - again because a producer told you to.) Note to all: real audiences pay attention to the performer.

Now, Miss Abdul has, for whatever reason, brought the scrutiny of the few remaining jaundiced eyes (like mine) to bear on one of the few “reality” shows that had a glimmer of reality left.

- Posted by paddy

Castro did great last night!..AI just proved last night that they want him out of the show..coz he’s def. a threat to the Davids finale…Jason is very unique & talented!…

Hated the judges last night!..Randy never liked Jason!.. and Paula??…just hated what she did last night!..that was so wrong!…and Simon is so wrong about saying it was forgetable…it wasnt…and ill remember it!…

- Posted by DH#935

Paula needs to leave and go to rehab, and possibly to speech therapy. Every time she opens her mouth I am afraid. She obviously has some issues - and whether or not it is serious prescription pain killer addiction, or early Alzheimer’s I don’t know. Please, find a new judge.

- Posted by ann

i think the whole show is fixed!!! how sad i really enjoyed watching that show …I will not be watching it anymore.

- Posted by beth

I think there is either a major snaffoo in American Idol land or Paula needs to stop overdosing on her meds. I’ve been thinking back on Paula’s comment for Jason’s performance. For the second performance (which didn’t happen yet), she didn’t like at all, and when she tried to cover herself, she said that she was reading notes from David Cook’s critique, yet when she critiqued David Cook’s songs, she thought his first performance was great. At the end of the show she proclaimed David Cook the winner of American Idol.

This makes me question whether someone else is writing her comments or is there a deliberate effort among the judges to have some kind of influence over the viewers votes? Who is to say that the votes that are cast by the viewers every week, are really the results that are presented? In a sick way, I hope that she’s just loopy, rather than be part of some conspiracy. What is going on here? Things that make you go hmmmm…

- Posted by Annette Orengo

Give me a break…..Jason Castro is deffinitely the worse singer in that group of 5 or even the worst of all the contestants that made it to the top 25. He sings certain songs ok but for me most songs he sings sound pitiful. Its like Simon says ” Its a singing competition” popularity should have some to do with it but its still a talent contest. In my opinion the 2 Davids should be the final 2.

- Posted by James

If you watch the tape from lastnight and see the look on everyones face as she is reading it is really funny. Its like they are thinking, “she is ruining the script” and the worst part is that the keep supporting Jason Castro. Simon said that Sayesha might be going home this week which I dont think should happen but may. I think that the judges do try to sway the audience for who they think should be voted off but sometimes they dont get through. Such as when Michael Jons was voted off, that was the shock heard around the world on that one. But I think that Jason Castro shouldn’t even have made it to Hollywood, he has nothing special about his voice and can he sing louder than a whisper? Good God man show some dynamics instead of singing the same crappy style. Girls keep voting for him because they think he is cute or whatever. This is a singing competition and I think the final three should be David Cook, David Archuleta, and Sayesha Marcado. Hopefully that will happen but who knows.

“We are live!” “THIS, is American Idol.” Last night, American Idol gave back.

Paula’s gaffe tells us something we didn’t want to know. Not about Paula — about American Idol. The show succeeds in part because they project the belief that viewers call the shots — that anything can happen. Well, something happened. Last night, we were reminded that yes, American Idol is only a TV show. TV shows have writers, directors, and performers. TV shows have strategies, goals, and objectives. They need ratings. (I wonder if they had time to edit out her mistake before they replayed it on the west coast.)

Sure, there’s a level of scripting, but it’s higher than we were led to believe.

As for you, Paula, who can possibly be surprised? Hard? Try paying attention. You’re taking home a sizable paycheck. Give me a break. Last week, you chided Brooke for stopping and restarting her song. Best stay on script, dear. At least Brooke understood what was going on. Stick to sugary reviews, dancing during the performances, and try not to get ahead in the script.

Unaware that she was off the tracks, Paula was reined in by Ryan, Randy and Simon. In the words of Simon, “Just stop, Paula. Just stop.”

Who am I kidding? I’ll tune in tonight, as always. I want to see what happens next.

- Posted by Andy Breeden

The show is rigged and always has been.

- Posted by Daivd

Disappointing Idol. It seems like the music and show are now just a distraction to rush through as fast as possible to get more commercial breaks in. Totally not relaxing, and I don’t need to tune in anymore. Plus Jason is enjoyable and entertaining, unlike the other 4, and they just bash him to death. Worst episode last night, season ever. Viewer out.

- Posted by MCS

Can someone explain to me why they love David Archuletta? Week after week I find him very plain and certainly not “idol” material. He brings nothing new and interesting to the music as David Cook does yet he continues to get these great comments from the judges. What is going on?

- Posted by amy

Time for a congressional investigation… do the producers not remember that there are federal laws governing how game shows have to be run to insure they are fair to contestants… American Idol is nothing but a game show with contestants trying to win a recording contract… if the show is rigged then there needs to be big time fines and jail time for those trying to rig it.

- Posted by Yirmin Snipe

there differently is something wrong with Paula. She cannot speak in a complete sentence. She is either drunk or on drugs. She makes a complete fool of herself each time she opens her mouth.

- Posted by Barbara

I was absolutely mortified at Paula’s comments. I have been questioning the validity of this show since Sanjaya. Paula’s “huge” blunder makes me convinced that this show is not what people think — whether she took notes during rehersals or had the producers tell her what to say, it doesn’t matter. I believe the producers are manipulating the show and the audience. I will see this season through, but season 8 is not on our list of shows.

- Posted by Suzanne

Seems very scripted at times. Remember Katherine McPhee and Taylor Hicks? During the beginning of the season the judges were praising Katherine. Then in the final three for four weeks they did nothing but come down on her. Reason is obvious. They knew Katherine would sell tons of CD’s. Taylor not so. Therefore if he were crowned the winner they would have two for one because he would sell more as a winner then if he came in second. By the way, Elliot Yamen should have taken second to Katherine’s first place win.

- Posted by Bart

I think Adol does have in mind and are pushing who they want to win. Paula appeared confused to say the least. i think an apology is in order from her to Jason Castro.

- Posted by LOri Giles

I do think Adol has in mind who they think should win and who they are pushing on the American public. Paula should be ashamed of the way her judging came off last night. She owes Jason Castro an apology in public.

- Posted by LOri Giles

THIS IS A COMPLETE FARCE. HERE’S WHY:

Paula wasn’t even at the dress rehearsal (I was and ‘fake’ Paula had red hair and a wig). There was barely enough time to change audiences, let alone review the tapes *and* do wardrobe.

It was already known for the dress rehearsals that judges would not judge until the second performance so they must have thrown in the first performance recap, but how is it not obvious that the judges were fed their lines?

Did anyone see any correlation between the performances and the comments? Syesha rightly asked ‘why’ after her brilliant performance, yet her and Brooke ought to be worried tonight as Jason’s likely ’safe’ for another week after this debacle (irrespective of what the infamous vote decides) so once again the wrong person will be evicted.

Fine, the show would be boring if it was just a singing competition, but if it’s completely and utterly rigged then don’t pretend it isn’t, and don’t try to blame Paula for failing to keep the dirty secret.

In any case, with the best singers prematurely eliminated (Michael Johns and Carly Smithson) the show’s hardly worth watching any more anyway. Congratulations David A for your ‘victory’.

- Posted by Ben

This is so unethical on so many levels. 1St, if she accidently read her notes from rehearsal, WHY are the contestants being judged on a dress REhearsal NOT THE STAGE PERFORMANCE!!! 2nd, While she herself was totally incohearant what she read off the card was totally cohearant. that makes me think it is totally scriopted and Paula is reading instructions from NIGAL LIthogo who has a total crush on DAVID A!

- Posted by flowerkitty

It’s very clear that the judges have their opinions down before the idols even sing. Paula, fess up. You screwed up. It’’s ok with me because I already knew something was fishy with the judging. Here is what America does not know. They the judges get to watch the complete song versions(studio version’’s before all of us. What happen was Paula saw all the videos before the live version and she took notes from both of Jason’s songs and just screwed uo by reading her notes. O well, See America it really isn”t that live show we all thought it was. The judges should not be aloud to view their videos or singing before we get to. Just my opinion but I bet that is what happened.

The excessive praise of the judges to David Cook, the “I feel like I am looking at the next American Idol” comment from Paula to David Cook, the huge suspicious blunder by Paula — all on a night of pretty equal performances across the board– is very troubling to this huge American Idol fan.

- Posted by Eb

I vote for “she just made a mistake”. Sometimes Paula do not even finish her sentences so for me it was just typical Paula. What I THINK happens was that the review for the “first song” (the “I liked that we hear your lower range” review)was for David Cook and the review for the “second song” was for Jason. That fit with her latter comment that she liked Cook the best from the first round of performances.

- Posted by Tony

Let’s face the facts: Idol has seen its better days. It is going to be painful watching them try to change things in desperation to save the show next season…it is already painful to watch now at times. It was a great show for the first three seasons, and at some point all good things must end. They should pull the plug on it now, and come back again in a couple years. As for Paula…she’s just being Paula!

- Posted by Over

I don’t believe it is a conspiracy theory as some have mentioned. Did anyone see paula’s reality show? She is obviously crazy. No biggie.

- Posted by Erica

I have become increasingly skeptical about the “function” of the judges as it seems they’ve purposefully disuaded viewers from voting for certain contestants who should have made it deeper into the competition, but didn’t fit the AI marketing niche.
Michael Johns was apparently too old.
Carly Smithson had those tats.
Yet Brooke and Jason remain, though they have failed to demonstrate equal talent and poise.
The judges also seem to have it out for Syesha. She has brought more to the stage, in recent weeks, than Brooke or Jason.
The David v. David showdown seems inevitable. But a season that once seemed loaded with so much talent, now seems a bit of a train wreck.

- Posted by Mark

Paula’s opinion never really counted. Half the time she looks like she’s high on something or bored to tears. She should be replaced by another judge who can contribute and really help the contestants. It does not help her image either, nor the contestants when she gets up and dances around while the contestants are singing. What is wrong with that woman? Each judge gets their turn to express his/her opinion, and I think that it is downright rude for Randy and Paula to interrupt and hackle Simon when he is giving his honest opinion. Simon is the only honest voice in there, and he is genuinely helping the “wanna-bes” become better singers by not stroking their egos. America has ears too…..Randy & Paula! And Ryan….quit with the “put-downs” already…it is getting irritating and boring.

- Posted by Cassie

Paula just seems to be drugged up lately. She wanders off in her speech and fades in and out. Now she can’t recall and critique what she’d just listened to. GET HER SOME HELP!

- Posted by Lee-Usa

Paula should be replaced next season. We have seen and heard enough.

- Posted by Carla

I think whe was high on something. I have watched American Idol since the first season. I have to tell it is becoming a “teeny bopper” show like “Hannah Montana” this is when I stop watching.

- Posted by GAIL

You guys are nuts!!! Has no one every seen what a stoned or drunk woman looks like…? Let me help you! It was Paula last night. It had nothing to do with Jason being pushed under the bus it was all Paula. Note, even Simon didn’t give her a hard time last night! HELLO!! She was totally stoned!

- Posted by Foxy7

Let’s wait to see what the produces of American Idol have to say on this one !
I’ve always had a doubt that the real public votes are not being taken into consideration…. if they can make up the judgement even before the performance, they could easily be making up the vote counts. They’re fooling the public !

- Posted by Pavithra

Anybody remember the movie Quiz Show? Considering the amount of money Fox is making on American Idol, not only from advertising but from the calls and text votes, there should be some kind of investigation. Paula’s “mistake” was a clear red flag. America has been duped.

- Posted by mojojojo in singapore

It’s called Parkinson’s disease, and she’s doing the best she can. Give her a break, this is a terrible disease.

- Posted by Dude

If I have to see smiley Brooke one more show I am going to puke!!!! She acts as if she is so sweet but if you will notice, she gets ticked off real quick and she makes comments and tries to act so “help me”. It is sickening. I will dance and sing when she is finally gone. And, she is too old for the show!

- Posted by jaguarjody

I’ve always thought that Paula has on a few occasions had one too many !! Last night she had a few too many. She has to go Please bring in someone who actually knows what they’re talking about !!

- Posted by Leigh

Well, the fact is that Randy is meant to be “hip” and cool, Paula’s suppose to be sweet and comforting, while Simon’s the brutally honest guy you love to hate. It’s all stereotyped! (However I’m not above finding Simon’s in-your-face personality somewhat amusing.) I also have noticed that Ryan has been acting a bit odd as of late, especially when it comes to duking it out with Simon.

. . . go David A!!! :D

- Posted by Lisa

Jason Castro is absolutley terrible and has no business still being on the show. All of his songs are the same boring thing. People who say he had a great performance are either deaf or brain dead. He won’t go home though because of all the little girls voting for him. It’s time American Idol changed their voting rules and had people vote for who they think should go home. That way people like Jason and Brooke wouldn’t still be in while singers like Carlie sit at home.

- Posted by Cory

paula have another cocktail! did anyone notice after Syesha Mercado sang her 2nd song, paula called her brook!

- Posted by cathy

David A. is for the teeny bopper girls. He’s boring. Does anyone really listen to him. Who would buy that album?

The whole fiasco may be a blessing in disguise. The producers sensed Jason’s star quality but could not figure it out Jason since he demystify various things. They may feel Jason would be a threat to their original D/D final plan and do anything. Those who could tell that Jason was crucified strategically go to YouTube and would listen to the studio version and appreciate his music more. And determined to keep supporting him since his music touched many and fight back to the dumb producers/judges. BTW, Jason is not dumb. By all means, he is in one of the top universities. He has earned respect and trust. Not so many young kids can tackle with this kind of brutality with grace like Jason.

It’s about time AI should change drastically.

- Posted by aw

Paula never ceases to amaze! But I think it was her usual spaced out blunders. She should stay as she is the only suspenseful thing left on the show.

- Posted by Ruth

Paula is able to express some disjointed, oddball thoughts immediately after a performance, but she just doesn’t have the brainpower to assess 10 performances all at once, which was the original concept for the show. So, someone had to provide her with notes. It’s as simple at that. With the notes in front of her, she didn’t even bother to pay attention to the performances, so she didn’t even realize that only one of the songs had been sung. It would be sad if the show hadn’t resurrected a stalled career and made her a multi-millionaire. The joke’s on us.

- Posted by kathy

Ok, its time to select who leaves us this week. I think there need to be two exits. First, Paula. She no longer deserves to be on this show. She is an embarassment. Even if the show was shown out of sequence with her having seen two performances of Jason, she was obviously not listening to Ryan and not with it. Whether its her whackiness or a bigger scarier problem either way its past the time for her to go.

Overall, as a great fan of Neil Diamond I was ready for a great show as his music is felxible, melodious, big orchestra/ big beat material and often deeply emotional. What we got was quickly thrown together performances by young talented people who had not a clue how to perform this music. It was a shame as Neil Diamond deserved better. His mentor comments, however were not very helpful but mentor comments usually are not.
The best song of the night was Cook’s second song. David A., Syesha, Brook and Jason simply “walked through” at least one of their songs. Jason’s Bluejeans was ok as was David A’s Sweet Caroline. Brooke’s I Am I Said was passable with at least some emotion. The change to “Arizona” from N.Y. was not a good idea by Neil.
Syesha sings everything well but exactly the same, boring. She lost all emotion from Hello Again. Big winner…Cook…Big Loser…Syesha.

- Posted by Steven

Paula does have Parkinson’s, and is taking meds (which do not alter behavior, but help motor control). Simon (like he says….the English are synical) always appears bored and critical. Randy is usually right on, but does appear to agree w/Simon. Paula is a kind person, and I believe she dislikes leaving the contestants feeling miserable. The show did seem rushed and I think we all felt badly for Brook and Jason. Jason is an entertainer, but does not have the best voice. Syisha has a great voice and should not be dismissed so easily; she will get a recording contract and Brook will too (just my opinion). Game shows have always had a script and I believe A.I. follows some guidelines. These soon-to-be stars (all of them) are being watched by Record Labels and will do well after A.I., even if they lose.

Why do any of you care if the show is rigged or not? How does this affect your life in any way? Are you richer, pooer, happier, sadder, smarter, dumber, fatter or skinnier because of this show? No? Then quit complaining. It’s possible Paula made a mistake, she is after all, human. You will still watch this show week in and week out, regardless of who the judges are. Paula is like the drunk sorority whore at the party, dancing all over the place and making out with everyone. She is annoying, but she does make the show that much more bearable.

As for Castro, compared to Sayesha, and the two Jason’s, he was terrible! I did like “Forever in blue jeans”, but I think it was mostly because of the song, not him. He should be going home tonight and not because of this huge conspiracy that everyone seems to have about the show being rigged. Besides, if it is rigged, he’s probably got a number of record deals already offered to him.

- Posted by JosephB

*Compared to the two DAVID’s. Everyone makes mistakes.

- Posted by JosephB

How on earth do you get Brooke confused with Syesha? You have to be deaf, dumb and blind to think that way. Is Paula even paying attention at all? “Brooke your just Brooke and we love you”, “No wait, Syesha your just Brooke and we love you” Haha!!! “Jason your just David Cook and we love you” And on and on and on…………

- Posted by SLQ

I think she’s on some kind of downer/anti-depressant. At least I’d like to think that because she otherwise seems to be two or three cards short of a full deck.

- Posted by Francesca

AI was thrown wide open. My assessment: the problem is not that all three of the judges give pre-planned reviews provided by the producers — Randy and Simon have enough experience and expertise that they can come up with it on the fly — but that Paula was so wasted last night that someone had to write her comments out for her before the show. Then she still managed to screw up by reading the wrong part of the page they had given her. It is a Paula problem. It is sad. I feel like everyone on the show knew what was up and tried to cover for her, but she was obviously so out of it that she just couldn’t be covered up. (Simon to Paula: “Just tell us who your favorite was.” You can manage that. Can’t you, Paula?) If the show goes for another season, the triad will be broken up.

- Posted by Erin

I’m sure the judges see the performances during rehearsal.

Obviously, Paula must have formed her opinion based on what she had heard previously even though only one song was sung by Jason. She wasn’t actually wrong in her assessment.

Unfortunately, television which has great potential for changing the world, instead in the interest of greed panders to the stupidity, vulnerability, and sensation seeking viewers. That would be “US” people! So, let’s stop complaining and being so insulted when we figure out we have been duped. It just rubs our nose in how stupid we are and we don’t like facing that fact so let’s just blame those million dollar execs in high places who are having the laugh. We deserve it for watching television crap (90% of it), buying the products that allow it to be shown. Let’s grow up and smarten up, we’re better than this. And, as for American Idol it should be called “American Fool”.

- Posted by lLarry Buffington

(spoiler) America voted for Jason and he will be in Top4.
Hope this will be a wake up call for the producers!!
I want to forgive the judges/producers because they are highly paid to make fool of themselves:-))

Hope last couple weeks’ Jason’s experiences would strengthen his stamina and will do the electrifying performance and give us a bundle of joy despite expecting more Jason-haters bashing as well as knowing outpouring support. This would build his character which will inspire many more viewers.

Dang, guys, Paula made a mistake. All right, she’s not the brightest daisy in the garden, but everyone makes mistakes. She said she mixed up the notes, and maybe she did, but to immediately throw up arms and scream “CONSPIRACY!!!” is ridiculous.

Let’s be real, if the producers want someone off the show, they just have to put it on Ryan’s card that “so and so” didn’t win enough votes. Who tabulates these votes? Where’s the Checks and Balances? It’s a TV show which is fun, entertaining, and lively, but it won’t start a national crisis if Jason is voted off, if Jason wins, or if Paula flubs again (Which she will, which is why we either love her or not). Have fun with it, but don’t take it so seriously. These contestants will all come out ahead. They’ve recieved the notoriety from the show, the good ones will be in our limelight for years, the bad ones will slowly fade from memory…

Let he who is without “mistakes” cast the first stone.

Just my opinion, and I’m sticking to it.

- Posted by Edward D Padilla

Last nights show was sad, I was embarrased for Paula, she had no real clue she had even made a mistake. If people really listen to her babble they will realize she does this every week. Its entertaining, but still she owes an apology to the contestants and the viewers. But I doubt that will happen she apparantly gets lost when she has to do something different. Paula, put the drink or whatever down and pay attention to what your supposed to be doing.

- Posted by Billie

Obviously, there is some editing and not all is “live” as Idol is represented. The comments on Jason are interesting, if the decisions were made on vocal quality only, he would have gone home much earlier. I am thinking about buying some hair and giving Idol a try next season.

last nights show was a truly disgraceful example of American stupidity - the very fact that they all watch this load of absolute twaddle is saddening for me. bring back the British empire! this show is the epitamy of the sickening over-zelousness of the Americans in general

Paula has totally screwed up my main source of income now. Am i the only one hoping for another car crash soon?? we will be taking applications for new judges from the end of this series ( by the way - David Cook is the already decided winner - so don´t bother voting for anyone else, you´ll only be wasting your dollars)

The trust is gone. I want to see certified vote counts, and they better equal 100% of 36 million. The proof of truth is now their responsibility.

I think it’s evident that American Idol is NOT aired completely “LIVE” as advertised. Try recording the show at home and then play it back. There are many changes that are obvious. For example, the recap of the performances at the end of the show include parts of the performances that were never actually seen. In many cases the microphone position, gestures etc. of the performers never actually took place while singing, however, they mysteriously are included at the end during the recap. I think Paula was simply having “dejavu” because she had already seen it. The show is recorded at least twice. It is NEVER aired LIVE as they claim. However, I will still watch it, because I still enjoy the performances.
