Has anyone told rapper Kanye West that a reviewer does not have to be nice to him? The rapper exploded on his blog this weekend after Entertainment Weekly reviewer Chris Willman gave the opening night of his “Glow in the Dark” tour in Seattle a mark of B+.
“Grab a drink, holla at some nice girls, and party bitch!!! You don’t know shit about passion and art. You’ll never gain credibility at this rate,” wrote West.
“I’m not a pop star. I don’t care about anything but making great art. Never come 2 one of my shows ever again, you’re not invited and if you see me… BOW!!! This is not pop, it’s pop art! Chris Willman, kill yourself!”
The last bit of advice for Willman was later removed from the blog.

I have never been to one of this guys shows, and I will never spend my money to go to one. Why would I spend my money on somebody that has the nerve to try and make people do things because he said so? EX: telling everyone to stand at one of his shows as he paid tribute to his mother. What would I stand for, was he going to lead a prayer or something? I don’t have to stand on my feet, so you can say nice words about your mother. you are not the first person to loose a parent! get over it!!! how many concerts have you been to where the artist demands you to stand and pay tribute? none! get off your high horse fella and mourn on your own. people go to concerts to have fun, not to be told what to do. its a sign of weakness to try and bully people into saying nice things about you. take the criticism and get on with your life dude!
- Posted by jazzy1This has to be the angriest man in the world…Be a man Kanye, not everyone feels about you what you feel about you! A real man would take critisim for what it is..an opionion…not you…Oh, no you think everyone HAS TO Like you or they are an idiot….You are a disgrace. You call what you do art…wow! I call what you do…ANGER set to music…! You will soon be a fogotten has been…I give you 2 maybe 3 years…! And walking off the stage in Houston…not cool, not professional..take some notes from the real pros: Janet Jackson (class act) Beyonce Knowles (CLASS ACT), John Legend though I am not a fan (class act), Justin Timeberlake I am not a fan of his AT ALL…But he is a class act…A real man. And for the record you are not the only entertainer who cares that the fans have their best time ever. Caught the Chelsea Handler show also in Houston May 3, 2008…she is a Class Act! The real pros roll with the pushes not start the pushes…wow! you are truly something else…don’t know what else but you are something…!
- Posted by Patricia GYou need some anger management classes or something…I hear from people who have attended your over hyped show that it really deserves a C- or less! Grow up little mad man…! Love God first Put God first and the rest will follow! And the best part you will not have to tell people you are the greatest…They will know it by your walk…not your angry outburst or rap talk..!
I think he has every right if he wants to act and feel anyway he likes. What he does is art and it is an artform. I am just happy and proud that he is not talking about guns and women as hoes so if he shows his ass hoorah!!! I think we get in people business too freaking much to talk about what they do or dont do; or how they should act and not act. Its not him who needs to change it is us as people who need to change. My mom died and if i was him and had a fan base I would say stand up to cause you suppose to at least care a little since you are at a show. He says what is on his mind and do what the fuck he feels and I think we should all do that just a little more and all feel like we can\’t be hit up the ass with a red apple like my grandma always says. So get off his nuts the guy said something he didnt like so he responded. Big deal. Get up in front of millions and see if you don\’t have the same big head that he does. Plus people are scared of a black man that speaks his mind. This is Amos and Andy 2.0. White black face, black face. Do what Andy Warhol said Kanye, get your 15 mins, hell make it 15 years!!!!!

I was at Kanye’s concert last night May 6,2008 in Miami. First let me say that I have been to over 50 concerts of all different types: Jay Z,Ice Cube,J.Timberlake, Mana, Maria Carey, Eric Clapton, Juanes, Madonna,Shakira etc. so I know a good concert when I see one. The truth about last nights concert is that the sound wasn’t right. There was way too much treble and it sounded scratchy. The speakers and equipment sounded cheap accoustically. The sound was too rough. Kanye had good energy and his lighted floor was cool. However, you could barely hear what he was saying over the noisy untuned music. The only songs that sounded good were Jesus Walks and Can’t tell me nothing. Goldigger and the Good Life didn’t sound right and I was really expecting to jam to those two. I was disappointed. Also, he had only one corny prop, no pyro, and his song order wasn’t ascending toward a climax at the end. It seems that he performed what he liked an not what the people liked or wanted. I would grade the concert as a C+. I’ve seen so much better. I hate to say it but he may be a little overrated.
- Posted by Wisdom 101Kanye is a god among men. Best rapper alive, best musician alive. Sorry you whiny little people don’t like it, but if you don’t want to hear this stuff or stand up at a show, then don’t go. I’m going to his shows thursday and friday night and its going to be absolutely amazing, kanye is the g.o.a.t.
- Posted by Dan the ManIts funny how ppl leave comments about what kanye did at his show when they have never been to one. I just went to his show in miami florida lastnight the 6th of may and I have to say he is the best thing that has happend to hiphop. This man is a being on another level frm daily bloggers lol. He did his performance for nearly 2hrs ALONE no hypeman and the crowd was not once silent. Who are you to question what he does…worry about your life loser lol what do you have ocd or something? Imma leaving on this note if you like him support him if you don’t read a book, take a bath, comb your hair dnt blog about him lol cuz I’m sure he can care less like he said”I feel my confidence+someones(yours lol) low selfesteem=my arrogance” meanin just becuz ur insecure and he’s confident doesn’t mean he’s in the wrong or arrogant
- Posted by kanye is mi air no him no meWho cares what Kanye is like he is rapping about real stuff not some cash money bull! People need to get over his ego and let him live, he is one of the best entertainers around. Plus his show in ATL was one of the best I have ever seen, and I have been too many concerts! Kanye, keep doing your thang, screw these haters!
- Posted by BooIt doesnt make sense to bash someone else for bashing someone. If you feel its wrong in the first place why would you repeat obvious mistakes.
- Posted by Mike JonesKanye is truly what the future of music should strive to be. As an “Not-so-young (Urban) Man * Take urban the way THEY use it* I appreciate his insight on life and the artistry in his music and performances. I have been known to defend Mr. West against die hard ‘pac fans. THEY only appreciate angry DOPE BOY, STREET LIFE, PIMPS with plenty of B’s and H’s. THEY want you to be a “BOSS” to be a superstar instead of creative!
- Posted by Scott@jazzy, you’re an idiot. Of course he’s not the only person to lose a parent, (what a smart fuking observation from you). When he asks the crowd to stand up, it’s to get some energy to do the song which is hard to do now that Ms. West has passed, you don’t have to stand if you don’t want to, you idiot! He has the courage to still do his job, and he’s extremely great at it, you haven’t listened to his amazing tracks so shut the hell up. And the show deserves A+. In my opinion, he’s the best artist these days, he’s internation and he deserves all the acclaim, and he deserves to act a fool and go on a rant when someone doesn’t recognize or BOW DOWN as he says! Call me whatever but he’s my favorite, listen to songs liks ROSES, HEARD ‘EM SAY, GOOD NIGHT, I WONDER, HEY MAMA, WE MAJOR. The instrumentals are great, so are the lyrics.
- Posted by Sheivelyi read some pretty ridiculous comments so i had to post my opinion. first off, him telling the crowd to stand to pay tribute to his mom has nothing to do with his ego and everything to do with respect. the man lost his mother who is the closest person in the world to him, and 2 weeks later he was back in the studio making music because he knows he has a responsibility toward his fans and he has no time to feel sorry for himself. he could of, and i guarantee that most artist would cancel their tour to take time off with family and morn his mothers loss. instead he kept going and tours the world 300 days a year. he has an ego becauses he is one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time and he puts his heart and soul into every performance and song that he records. he expects perfection from himself and its frustrating to be slammed left and right because people cant stop and realize what he is doing for hip hop and music in general. he is probably the greatest entertaineur you will ever see in hip hop throughout your entire lives so pay some respect and dont give B+ reviews for A+ performances.
- Posted by marcI dont know what you haters are talking about especailly you chris willman, i attended the show in seattle on april 16 and i have to say that was the greatest show i”ve been to and kanye is a great rapper and i love him and support him. the concert was the best!
- Posted by DulceTo the idiot who said kanye west has 2-3 years left…”Kill Yourself” lol. no but seriously with this man producing some of the greatest beats to ever grace pro tools i thin you should bit your tounge at that asenine comment. He is a cocky bastard. He’s not Jesus, ven though he really does think he is. He is losing his gusto from the Dropout. But he wont ever be a forgotten has-been. 2nd any rap show in America will almost demand you to stand and pay homage to someone in some fashion. Either to NYC as a whole, Biggie, Pac, Static Major (Lil’ Wayne’s guy from Lollipop). Last he is right his job isn’t A performances, it’s to make classic soulful albums. I think he’s done that 2 1/2 times (Graduation was good, but not classic). He overreacted and needs to stop bein a baby about everything. But to haters who think he ain’t sh*t. Look up the definition of hip-hop.
- Posted by ZachWhat is the truth about Kanye as a rapper/performer overall? I will give it to you. Just about everyone on this blog is speaking from emotion. To really judge an artist you have to have bought their CD and have seen them live in concert. Furthermore, you have to have been to more than a few concerts in your life. Most people say a concert was good just because of the social aspect of being out in a venue with friends and family. Others say a concert was good because they were high and drunk feeling good. What’s the truth about the performance and music quality. I have been to over 50 concerts and seen all types of artists. I was at Kanye’s concert 2 days ago in Miami. The truth is that his music did not sound very well. It sounded like he had cheap equipment and speakers. Too much treble. Some of the ushers were plugging there ears. Jesus Walks and Cant tell me nuthin were the only ones that sounded good. Trust me, I like Kanye but he had very poor sound quality. Too scratchy and noisy. Plus some of his songs sound like that white boy rock n roll stuff. I was disappointed. He was better when he came w/Jigger a couple of months ago because Jay Z apparently had more high end sound equipment. As a producer he has few peers. As a rapper he’s a little overated and thats the truth.
