”American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta, 17, might be the latest tween hearthrob. But sorry girls, he’s nowhere near ready to date.
“I just don’t want to deal with that (girlfriend) drama right now,” a giggly, embarrassed Archuleta told reporters on Friday.
“I just want to be able focus on music. When I feel like I’ve met a girl who has a great personality, and who is someone I can connect with, and who has good standards for themselves and who has respect for themselves, and who cares for others as well…It’s just something I will definitely want to focus on later in life when I’m ready. But I just feel like I’m so young,” he said.
Archuleta reassured his millions of disappointed young fans that he was okay about losing the title to rocker David Cook. “I want them to know I am feeling great. David Cook deserves to be the American Idol and he is such a great guy too. My priority was not to win the competition but to do my best.”
“We both gave it our all (on Tuesday) and we both feel really great about it. I don’t think I could have done anything better,” the former “chosen one” said.
The shy teen also tried to put to rest stories regarding his father. Archuleta said he had been shielded from the media during the show and found the stories about being bullied or made to cry by his father “weird.”
“I heard one thing that he refused to give me water. That is the weirdest thing. I am 17. If I want water, I am pretty sure I will just go get it.”
“He (my father) is a great guy. There isn’t anything that he has done that is bad… my whole family has been a great support. They are the ones that have kept me grounded,” Archuleta said.

I definitely don’t think that Archie is gay. I agree with his opinion that he is just not ready to date right now. There will be a lot going on for him in the very near future and having a girl friend in his life might be a distraction. I wish him the best in whatever he decides to do in his future!

He may be straight, gay, whatever, and whats the difference? People say ‘he’s not gay’ like it would be really terrible if he is.

I think it’s alright for him to not want to date but that doesn’t mean he’s gay. You shouldn’t judge people. They are who they are.

I know quite a few young men of his age who aren’t interested in girls at the present time, and I say good for them. David needs to focus on his career as a singer and get himself established, he has plenty of years ahead of him and I am sure there will be plenty of girls along the way. Let the young man enjoy what he has accomplished so far in his young life, and don’t cast any stones if you don’t know what you’re talking about. David has a wonderful singing voice for one so young, and I for one hope that he will be around for a long time to come.

Do you have proof that he is gay? No? I thought so. Just because he doesn’t want to date girls right now, it doesn’t mean that he is gay. He’s just not ready right now, but later on when he’s mature enough, he will sometime in the future. He didn’t say he will never date girls, he said when he is ready. Are you deaf or are you blind? or both? I applause him for standing up to his good standards. You should be proud that his parent raise him to be an obidient boy unlike you are so messed up! Your life is so upside down that you don’t even know what’s the best way for your life is. Before you call David A. gay, you should take a look at yourself first. You haven’t even experience what life would be in the future, so just focus on your music and settle your life first. I have seen many teens who have girlfriends and boyfriends and endup being loosers when they start poping kids left and right. This is no life for a talented teen like you. After you have a successful career, there will always be wonderful ladies around, not girls!. Enjoy your single successful life first, and when you are mature, then you are ready to date and get married.

I spent 4 hrs voting or should I say trying to vote Tues. night for David A. and got through (hold on to your seats) 14 times. I spoke to a couple of friends (in Wash. State) and they got through 12 and 18 times….same problem. It is obvious to me that this thing was totally designed to manipulate the end result. They wanted a “Rocker” cuz their rating were slipping…whatever. I really like David C. but David A. is the true winner in my heart…hands down!

I have a teenage daughter and believe me there is a lot of drama with kids that age…he doesn’t need to add a serious girlfriend in the mix! Why is there such pressure to see a 17 year-old in a serioius relationship? David enjoys going out with a group to dances or hanging out. That is alot more healthy! He has his head on straight! I was glad that my son did the same…there is plenty of time for relationships later! He is only 17!
I am so proud of the way David had held to his standards and been true to who he is! What a great young man! He has handled the pressure-cooker that is American Idol with amazing maturity! Thank you for being the true example of what American Idol should be!
