You could almost hear the collective groan from reporters and commentators the world over when they learned the names of Angelina Jolie’s twins. Pencils, mine included, were sharpened for stories of outlandish celebrity baby names. OK, Jolie and partner Brad Pitt didn’t go for “Jack and Jill” exactly, but Vivienne Marcheline was remarkably restrained for the bizarre-baby-name age, and Knox Leon was only slightly more whacky.
Nicole Kidman had got people nicely warmed up with “Sunday Rose” for her recently-arrived daughter, who, incidentally, was born on a Monday.
The Daily Telegraph caught the mood with a tongue-in-cheek commentary saying Jolie had “failed the name game”, calling her choices “shockingly conventional.”
Celebrity baby name lists remind us of glories past, for which many of us secretly pine. Remember Princess Tiaamii (daughter of model Jordan and Peter Andre)? Or Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily (Paula Yates and Michael Hutchence) and Jermajesty (Jermaine Jackson and Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza)? Angelina, we deserved better.

Knox is the middle name of Brad’s maternal grandfather. Leon is the name of Angelina’s gtr gtr gtr grandfather. Of course Marcheline is her mother’s name. And Vivienne may also have some personal meaning. Regardless, this couple loves children of all kinds and is most generous. If publications are going to fight over photos and the prices paid, it is smart of them to donate the money to charity. Together, they donated over 8 million US$ to charities last year.
- Posted by bookmomIt seems sort of sad that Angelina’s mother couldn’t be with her at this joyous time, but knowing the children are safe and finally here is wonderful. The names, although unexpectedly normal in this time of almost competetively abnormal names, are awesome and Brad and Angie must be overjoyed, naming the little girl after her mother and the little boy after his grandfather. I can’t help but think how they must wish for a bit of normalcy for their children, who are innocents.
- Posted by VictoriaIn response to “Who care?” Obviously, you do, if you take the time out of your day to respond. As for the names, they are great and fitting I am sure.
As for them getting so much money, its FABULOUS! 1) the magazines won’t stop until they get a picture of those babies, 2) if they don’t volunteer to give the pictures, they will be chased down and put in danger, and people will buy the stupid magazine anyway, 3) the money is used for good–to help others in need. The Jolie-Pitt family has contributed alot to charity both domestically and abroad and would no doubt help others in need, in the “troubling” economy; 4) Anyone that has the time and money to waste on here–myself included–is no destitute, and we waste money on more things that just a magazine. At least by buying the magazine we give money to charity from the proceeds, as opposed to just finding the pictures on the internet later on and not helping anyone at all.
- Posted by LancMomTHE MONEY IS GOING TO CHARITY! SO FOR ANYONE WHO IS SAYING TO NOT SPEND THE MONEY ON THE MAGAZINE THAT WILL HAVE THEIR BABIES PHOTOS IN IT, CLEARLY DOES NOT SUPPORT CHARITIES.
- Posted by Aidan V.Stupid names… and by the way WHO CARES?
- Posted by knoxford LeonardoI believe the money is going to CHARITY! How is that wasting money?! Congratulations is what I say to them. Delivering healthy twins is double the blessing. Whatever their names they can change them later in life if they so wish.
- Posted by kathI applaud the Jolie-Pitt family and their commitment to charities worldwide. Somehow I don’t see this having happened in the Anniston-Pitt marriage. Angelina is a caring and giving person. Brad Pitt is a better person for his relationship with her.
- Posted by CarolI love Brad and Ange and think they just belong together big time, forget about their pasts who gives a s—t. They are 2 beautiful people that have come together at the right time in there lives and have created there dream family. As a couple they are awesome and united in what they want and together they make a formidable team.
- Posted by Karen CavalloGod bless you and your family. (don’t take any s–t).

I think Angelina’s baby names are great!! You go girl!!
- Posted by StaceyI believe that the name choices are personal and well thought out. They take their committment to their children as the highest priority and it seems to make all of them happy. With such commendable dedication to standing up for their beliefs and trying to effect social change, they should be applauded for using their voices to inspire others to make consciencous efforts for improvements where poverty is overwhelmingly the future for many children. They have indicated that the reported amount offered for the first baby photo’s will be donated to their charity of choice 100%. How many people can say that they would do the same if offered such an extravagant amount of money.
- Posted by AlisonThey help both children abroad and those effected in the United States with housing in the New Orleans affected disaster areas.
so what if they’re payed millions for the pics…it’s going to proceed to charities anyways not for their personal gain…it’s for people around the world who are living in poverty….people who are living in such harsh conditions we from developed countries can’t even imagine…
- Posted by minai think the names are great. im not a fan of knox leon but it fits perfectly well with maddox and pax. also, all of the boy’s middle name ends with ‘n’!
im definitely going to buy the magazine. they’re a beautiful family and its even better knowing the proceeds will go to charity.
its weird that you cant stop laughing ‘cocoa’ because there’s nothing really special with a child’s name being associated with food products or an actual person…plus, its not ‘vivian’ its ‘vivienne’- two totally different spellings.
- Posted by nicolethey must be very happy right now. i wish them all the best and i think what they commit themselves to is to be admired.
- Posted by zootThe only disgusting thing about some of the comments that have been made here is people rubbishing other peoples’ baby names. How dare you! Is it your child? Is it your business? A big fat NO to both! I child has to live with whatever name it’s parents chose for it and I find it disgraceful that people would take it upon themselves to start teasing or degrading a baby’s new name - whatever it might be.
- Posted by CammieI actually think Sunday Rose is a lovely name. Definitely more disguished than just common Debbie (no offence to anyone else named Debbie!)
Knox gelatin and vivian vance are all I can think of…
- Posted by cocoaadd Pitt to it and I cannot stop laughing
The babies names are not what i was expecting. However they are catchy. Different but not disgusting like SUNDAY ROSE!!!
- Posted by Debbie EI can’t wait to buy the magazine as I can’t wait to see these beautiful babies. Congratulations to them both! Angelina is GORGEOUS, Brad Pitt is HOTTER than HOT… Who wouldn’t want to see these babies? I also think the names are well thought of and will be raised with a lot of love. I’m sure that they will do something great with the money they make from the photos, for people a lot less fortunate than ourselves.
- Posted by TarnzYup, I noticed that “X” ending today. Wonder if there is a common denominator in the girls’ names.
- Posted by XI think those are two beautiful names. It fits in well with their other childrens names. And uh… I think Sunday is a horrible name. Could it be any weaker? I think Angelina and Brad picked two very great names. The years are changing and so are names. C’mon… Sunday Rose sounds like an old lady name.
- Posted by Aidan V.they named their children what they wanted to, family names oh new concept?
